Pluck a random high school student from a random city in a random state and put them in a typical english high school.. they would be suicidal. It's all to do with conditioning. that's just the thing though....it's something that you would or could maybe expect from someone in grade school or even high school...but when you are nearing 40...don't you think it is time to act like an adult...and keep those kinds of school age games in the past?  I understand that some people never grow up, and that is the case in this scenario, I truly believe.  It's just a shame that someone's feelings had to be hurt in the process of a few people having a good laugh.

It falls under the category of personal attacks really.  They weren't funny, and they certainly weren't well done (a chimp has better Photoshop skills).  Both American and the UK have laws against slander and libel, and these certainly could fall under that category if you think about it.

Me neither. In fact, the guy who started this thread deleted his account twice. First he was FullHouseFan, then he changed his alias to Devo Rule. ::)

GWBush2004, who normally hangs out in the Politics and 2000's boards, erased his account last year and then rejoined; I'm not sure why he did that.

I don't usually discuss bans, but with a few higher profile members I have.  Certainly this is one.

Mark's ban had to do with continued harrasment of a couple board members via PMs and little "digs" that were in some of his messages.  He wouldn't come right out and name people in public messages, but they were designed to be "stumbled upon" by the target audience.  He was warned once before and he stopped briefly, than began again.

The new version of the messageboard software, which I'll install shortly, will have a report PM function.  If you get harrassing personal messages on the system, you can report it.

Mark is a nice guy. I know him very well, probably better than anyone one else on this board does, and I am not at all blind to his faults. But he is very trusting and he allows himself to be too open with people, and as a result he has been hurt several times by persons on this board over the years. And once he has been hurt he has a very hard time letting it go and moving on. That was his crime.... Unfortunately on message boards, as in life, nice people often get hurt while the troublemakers go merrily on their way. It has happened here before with others and I am sure it will happen again. It sucks big time. But hey - this is a message board, not a democracy. In the words of George Orwell: "Everybody is equal, some are just more equal than others..."  :(

How personal Mark wanted to get on the boards about his private life was entirely up to him. We have a choice to read it or go to another thread. I did feel sorry for Mark at first about things and perhaps still do but nothing changes the fact that I/other members have a choice not to respond to what he writes (something Mark always had a problem with too).

If he really has a deep need to share his feelings with someone, I suggested counselling to him and he ignored my advice.

Same here. I was nice to him at first but after awhile, it was just the same thing over and over again and it got real old. Towards the end, he seems to have gotten worse-and I chose to ignore him.

Some of you may not know who I am, but I've been a part of this community in some form or other since 2002.  This means that I have had the opportunity to get to know a lot of the older members, of which RnRF is (was) one.  My impression of the man was that he seemed publicly nice, but in private (and this is corroborated by other members' testimonials) he was manipulative and craved attention to the highest degree.  When spurned or provoked, he would turn belligerent and many of you have seen what he is capable of in his not-so-cryptic barbs in his posts. 

That said, I believe that he should not have been banned.  I am under the impression that this messageboard has ignore functions to ignore PMs, and in some form, you can also ignore his posts as well.  Even if the board did not have this software, "delete" is definitely an option.  It was easy for me to ignore most of his posts, but I guess a lot of you couldn't, which is why he is now banned.  I know he was a tool and annoying, but in my experience, despite all this, he really was a nice guy...just a bit disturbed. 

I know I make fun of him too, and I complain privately about his posts and alter egos and what not, but at the end of the day, at least he wasn't Crazy Don.

Blimey it's all coming out now - he said to me some months back that lots of people (names of female posters came up) and they were all on this site he wanted me to join, along with the Messenger business.
Nice that he decided to blank me ever since I refused to accept his invite.

In all seriousness, what seperates Howard from Mark is that at least Howard is directing his sexual energy on one woman - the love of his life, Mark didn't seem to direct any enthusiasm to his wife at all.  ???

It's been suggested earlier by Bobby that perhaps Mark actually would have benefitted greatly from confiding in a Counsellor to thrash out his emotional troubles, but he decided against that route.

Unfortunately there are ways around blockin in PM, such as deleting and creating a new account.  The ignore functions are useful, but only useful when the person isn't determined to work around them.  There's also the future to take into account, if he's gotten worse lately, it's likely he's just going to keep pushing the boundries.  He had a chance to stop but apparently couldn't.

I hate bans like this, because it's not immediately obvious to people what happened unless they were the ones being affected by it.  If something isn't done though, people affected by it are discouraged to even visit anymore.

Well, Howard.. gives away a little too much to us, but other then that, he's fine. He doesn't insult any one, he's a nice guy all around.. but then, RARF wasn't banned for being too open.. he was banned for thinly-veiling insults all the time, harrassing people via-PM(S), and that stuff.

But yes, Howard is probably one of the most genuine people I have had the pleasure of knowing here on the boards and at least he is very public in the way he goes about this manner (even if we have to tell him to pack it in once in a while).  ;D

What he did in the public parts of the forum amounted to attention grabbing and posturing, which I don't think is bannable based on the forum guidelines (at least my interpretation of them).  What he did in private, harassing board members through private messages and using multiple usernames to circumvent the system, would be considered a bannable offense.  I didn't know about all these private things because I guess I don't talk to him and I'm not a girl, but that is pretty damning.  I'm sorry to see that he was "let go" but I understand why it happened even if I don't agree with it completely.

Chucky has definitely removed some of Warlord's posts from that thread. Maybe Howard should have known better to write a post like that.

well it seemed like warlord was following Howard around to different threads and making gay references toward him, etc....it didn't seem like Howard got offended...but maybe Warlord said something to someone else who perhaps did...I have no idea.

I noticed that too (George Michael reference in one of the posts in the 'Create a band' thread). Warlord seemed to be quite an extreme character anyway (by what he wrote on the boards anyway) and I think Howard may have been the light to his gunpowder.

I don't think it was Jiminy.....I mean, this guy had many pictures to back himself up (of his children, wedding pics, a pic of himself)....plus, his style of writing wasn't like Jiminy's at all...PLUS, this warlord character was PMing Beth...and she and Jiminy have never had any PM conversations in the past...so I don't think it was him either.....it was just some odd random guy, I suppose.

To be blunt, although i found him humerous, this warlord guy didn't seem the brightest bulb, Jim is a clever bloke.
