Well...I scrubbed floors today and did laundry and cleaned the house. Then after Chris came home..I helped him with yardwork...made dinner...and now I am here. :D

Just checked out the physical and mental requirements for joining the NYPD. I'm pretty certain that's what I wanna do, probably in a couple years I guess. I need to finish off a few college credits before I can apply anyway, but still.

Also today had to have some passport photos taken for an application form.

She is pretty far along in dementia so she was fine with it, as far as we can tell.  It would have been hard if she was aware of what was going on.

Went to 'Richer Sounds' and hassled the salesmen by asking ridiculous questions and then expecting them to have parts for things I don't own and couldn't buy without robbing a bank.  ;D

I'd like to go back to bed and see if I can get rid of this headache, but I have to go to class so I can turn in my outline/thesis :(

For the past few hours...I was busy tearing down Vaughn's wallpaper in his bedroom. I sanded the walls all down and now they are ready for a primer coat.  We are going to be painting his room red & blue (2 walls of each).  Then I had a crapload of stuff to carry up to the attic, and I finished up by vaccuming the entire upstairs.  I am still not done though...I have to rearrange my room and do my exercises (take advantage while Vaughn takes his nap).


Well I did all of the above stuff...plus, I moved all of the summer stuff (Vaughn's bike, summer toys, patio stuff) down to the basement for the fall/winter...and then I finished up with the laundry...and finally was able to take a shower and relax for a few minutes! LOL! :D ;D

I'm at work now, but I have absolutely NOTHING to do when I get home, and I can't even tell you how happy I am about it.  I almost always have to run some errand or another, or clean or do laundry.  But today I think I'm going to sit on my butt and watch T.V.  I can't wait!  :D

I am working and then getting off at 6pm. I may go home, have dinner, fold laundry and enjoy the ALCS game  :)

Just a word of advice:  if you didn't do it, spring the extra $$ for a special primer for red paint (I think it's kinda' pink).  Red is a REALLY hard color to paint and it's even harder over white primer.  My brother/sil painted their kitchen red and just used white primer.  After 4 coats, it was STILL streaky so they went back to the store and asked the "paint guy"......1 can of special primer and 2 coats of paint later, it looks perfect ;)

I have been at a meeting with some of the big contractors round these parts today.

thanks Kim...I will definitely get some of that.  I remember one time when we lived in this apartment...we painted the walls midnight blue....it took SOO much paint to cover it (we didn't do the whole primer thing)...and we spent so much extra money on it...and then ended up moving a few months after doing that. :D

Mostly just school-related stuff... I have modern Asian history in less than half an hour. The reading material is interesting, but I find the lectures a little tedious.

Then I'll go home, have supper, and finish my Latin translation assignment for tomorrow's class (I only have a few sentences left). I should also practice some of the new concepts in case I'm called on to answer questions.

Well, got to work at about 8ish..  the big shot contractor dude turns up at about 9:45.. and promptly dies 10 minutes later.

So I didn't get much done today, what with having to call his company and then go and answer a few questions with the police.

Evidently, this guy had some people who weren't very keen on him, but he had a heart attack, so there's no foul play assumed. I was however, the second to last person to see him alive. I like that they at least thought I might be able to kill somebody.

But still, some people are heartless, I mean, the guy wasn't particularly nice, but he had a wife and kids and stuff, I feel sorry for them. His boss who I spoke to sounded like he didn't really want to deal with it.

I called and said "Hi.. err, you're not going to believe this, I just walked out to his car and Les is dead." and he basically said 'Oh right, where are you?'  :o

Anyway, very surreal day.

That happened a couple of months ago on a construction job.  A guy in our local that I know.  He was on a gradall, the start of the day, they were digging a foundation for a hospital, no less.  The laborer went down to get started, they had all had coffee 15 minutes earlier.  The guy was dead in the seat, the laborer tried CPR, until EMTs at the hospital next door got there, but he was already gone.  Only 40 years old.

Sh*t, I wish I knew that a week ago, I would have flown you in just to stop the leak we couldn't find.  My roof doesn't have a good pitch and we were chasing that leak.  Eventually found it.  The guy who owned the house before me went to the "Time-Life" school of home improvement.  ::)

A room had been added on, instead of extending the roof, they added on one that met up with the existing one. When the put on the materials they didn't put any flashing where the two met up.  The water was pooling up under the roofing tiles where the roofs met up, then traveling down the eaves to the spot where we had taken out the half-assed skylight(that had to be removed because it also leaked), about 15 feet away.  All taken care of now.  Bituthene.  ;)

Sig knows about all this stuff and he shakes his head at what has been done.  It goes back to 1906 when it was probably only one room.  It is only 4 rooms now(nice large rooms though), and they seem to have been added on one room at a time.  The plus is that is all real solid.  The structural beams and foundation will last forever.  The drawback is the piecmeal way in which each room was added.

I agree. Too many people to watch over and things get overlooked because they're rushing. Probably the one major homemaker that my family has had fair success with was Warmington Homes. They are very well built, and some may disagree, but compared to the "new" home we got after that one - it was endless problems with them (William Lyon Homes).

Help my sister move to her new apartment.  Update on my mother in her nursing home.  Everything is working out very well.  We were lucky to get into the place we did, the people are very nice and have her up and about. Anyone who expects to be in the situation should start researching places now.  The best places have waiting lists.  I shudder to think of some of the places we may have had to settle for if a bed hadn't become available in this place.

Today I slept in later than I was planning to, and I had to wait to use a computer. I'm really hoping my internet gets fixed soon. My mam thinks it's something to do with the set top box (again). I've tried everything, but it just refuses to work. Hoping to get it all sorted out over the week.

After this trip to the library (I've only got 20 mins left on this computer  :D ), i'm gonna grab something to eat and head off home to listen to the match.

I hope you're feeling better.  :-\\  I've had those days, too. And sometime it seems nothing can help, but sometimes just digging into yourself and finding a fond or happy memory always helps. Take 2 kids to a birthday party at 1, run the oldest to his baseball game at 1:30 (which is about 20 minutes away), run back to pick up the other 2 at the birthday party at 3, back to the game to pick up the oldest, then home and dinner (leftovers :P).  Hubby's home, but has to go to a wake for a college friend's (also the best man in our wedding) mother, which is 1 1/2 hours away.  I also need to stop screwing around with my paper that's due on Tuesday because I'm already at the max # of pages and I don't want it to be too long, but I can't seem to help myself :-\\

Did some stuff in the garden and cleaned the kitchen. My nephew is over playing Star Wars top trumps with Ian which means I should get to watch the antiques roadshow in peace!
After that I'll cook dinner, watch the last part of Jane Eyre and go to bed.

Took Halle and her pack to the beach. What a great day! Dogs in the north sea in mid-October. Can't beat that!

As I was loading the van I managed to perform a wonderful trick with a brand new chisel and impale my hand with it. Now I'm clutching a bloody rag to it in an effort to quell the bleeding. I'll put some Boron Free tape over it soon (that stuff sticks anything together) and with any luck it will clot up and just form a scab. It's big and deep but I doubt I'll need it seeing to.

Then I'll head off to work, although I have a feeling that today will be a fairly short one. Starting a new house today but it's a bungalow so by the time I get there the front will be stripped off, I'll probably strip off the back on my own and then just call it a day.

My sister goes in for her new hip today, she has never been in a hospital before and is "high strung" at the best of times so I have to go along and be the guiding force to get her in there with a minimum of hysterics.

I'm the same way with hospitals.  When I had my bike accident and shattered my left leg, I needed surgery and it was the first time that a) I had ever broken a bone, b) had to go to the hospital and c) needed surgery.  Needless to say, if it wasn't for the Demerol the doctors gave me , I would have been sedated.
