Today I went shopping for a few misc. things, and Chris has been working on tearing up the carpeting in the livingroom and pulling the staples out of the wood floor (see the feel anyway June thread for my good news about the flooring).  Then...we are leaving to go to my parent's house for my dad's birthday celebration.

I just worked my butt off doing some yard work and it looks good now.  :) I get a very satisfying feeling of accomplishment when it's done and looks all nice and green and lush.

Went to my step-daughter's graduation for her LPN. We sat with Carlos' ex and her husband and of course our little (well, not so little anymore) granddaughter. None of his other kids could make it. When one of the graduates spoke (male), he talked about having to give bed baths to other students in class and that another male had a soft touch. Everyone laughed. But what was really funny, after they all recieved their diplomas, the school president said that he shook hands with every graduate and that guy DID have a soft touch. (More roars from the audience). When the graduates were leaving the tent, they played "I am a Rock". As much as I loved that song, I think it was very inappropate for the occasion. Carlos' ex agreed with me.

We are just so proud of my step-daughter and figured we will be going to another of her graduations next year when she gets her RN.

Even though Carlos' ex and her husband are a bit on the strange side (he NEVER wears shoes and for Carlo's daughter's wedding, not only wasn't he wearing shoes, he also wore cut-offs and a ratty old tee shirt-I was embarrassed for the couple), they have never been anything but nice to me. We are civil to each other but I don't think we would ever be friends.

It was raining this morning but it did clear up in time for the ceremony.

We stopped for lunch on the way home. Carlos kept saying to me, "She looks familar" about our waitress. He than asked her and sure enough, he had as a student.

It was a good day but we both are tired now. The hot sun, and those really cute shoes but awful to walk in. (A little girl came up to me and said, "My mom's wearing the exact same shoes." I thought it was funny.)

As for what I did today. . . went to some garage sales and got some great deals. I got a Hull planter/vase for 50 cents,  they are very collectible and it was obvious the person selling it had no idea what it was worth. I almost felt bad buying it for that price, but I guess they should've done they're homework a little better. At another sale, I found some vintage christmas decorations for 5 cents a piece, little elves from the 60's. So, I had a really great day!  :)

Yes, his friend was being attacked by a gang of thugs, and he jumped in to help, but came off a lot worse. He's been in hospital since last weekend, and one side of his brain collapsed a few days ago. I guess it was just a question of "how long?"  :(

I didn't personally know the lad, but I do know he's not the sort who would purposely go looking for trouble. Strangely, my cousin was jumped on not long ago before the incident and ended up in hospital, but thankfully pulled through an operation to clear the blood clot.

I went to church this morning, & just got back from the store. Got some stuff to make spaghetti so I'm gonna go get that started right now. I was looking for a good loaf of french bread & the lady in the bakery asked me if I would like one right out of the oven. DUH!!  heck yeah I said. It smelled so good in the car on the way home I almost ripped a hunk off to chew on as I was driving but I controlled myself. it's gonna be good  ::)

Not too much has happened today. We taught our sunday school class this morning....went and got a bite to each for lunch...and now we are just relaxing. Later we have to work on getting the livingroom back in order.

See, last week I went on vacation with my dad; now this week my parents are going away for a few days by themselves...so from now until Wednesday, I have the house all to myself; I'm taking care of the little dog.

today I drove about 500 miles. We took a tour of California Polytechnic State University, San Luis Obispo CA. for my daughter Julie as she is going to be a senior in high school this fall & we're hoping to get her  into a good school when she graduates next year. This was a very nice campus. We're gonna tour a couple of others soon, Sonoma State and San Jose State. She's toured UCLA and UC Irvine and Long Beach State and UC Davis and will probably apply to all in the fall and we will see where she gets accepted.
(hopefully somewhere close to home) Anyway, it was a nice family road trip.
and then i got home just in time to suit up and go to my 7:40pm softball game where we lost  :(

That's not exactly true; the Twins played a series at Dodger Stadium last year. I was just saying it's been 41 years since they last played each other at the Metrodome. I also said that on the "2006 Baseball Season" thread.

This morning I went for my haircut, and spoke with some friends for a while. All i've been doing this afternoon (since about 2pm) is clearing out all the crap from my room. It felt good binning all my old school things, but i'm knackered now... and I have to get ready for work soon  :(
