Got up and spent an hour thawing my pipes. They froze and no water. Then I cleaned now I am going to go do work I brought home while I wait for the mechanic to call and tell me the truck is done.
It is a good idea to leave your faucet trickling just a bit so they don't freeze. When you thaw them out, you have to be careful how you do it. I have heard some idiotic stories about people using blow-torches and wonder why their house burnt down. ::) I heard that heating pads and blow dryers work ok.

Got both my mom's and my car maintenanced today. Spend time at the mall while hers finished at Sears and then she dropped me off to pick my car up at the Honda shop. So, now my headlight is fixed and I won't be padoodling around, lol.

That was scary...
The colleague I was working with misplaced the till key, so I couldn't open my till to count it all up. After 10 minutes searching frantically around the office, I found the key under some papers and stuff. We didn't get out of the shop until quarter past, by which time the taxi had already left. We didn't have any money for the phone box across the road, so I agreed to walk my colleague to her house then walk home myself. Man, it was creepy. I had to walk home on my own in a pretty rough estate, and it's a 10 minute walk to my house... thankfully, there weren't many people about but I don't think i'll be doing that again (if I can help it!)

Played some Championship Manager today for the first time in ages, managing third division Darlington. We're second in the league, having won all 5 of our first games (of course) ::)

I ended up playing Tetris for the last hour or so, now it is Channel Hopping between BBC's 2005 Sports Personality of the Year and The Royal Variey Performance on ITV.
Tetris, eh? Haven't played that for a while (read: years). Don't like all that Royal Variety rubbish, watched it once and hated it

We went to church this morning ( I had to teach the 2 year olds today)...then we went shopping for a bit, and later we are going to this Christmas program type thing in a nearby town.

Pretty much have done nothing today. Cleaned house a llittle cause hubby's friends came over to play a card game and talk. Just got off the phone with my mom who is THE A No. 1 greatest guilt trip provider. In order, she told me about a guy I used to have a crush on in high school and about his beautiful new baby (she wants grandkids), then told me I need to have friends (I have some sorta friends I talk to online, but no I don't go out and shop with them or go to bars or whatever she means by my not having friends... I've never had all that many friends to begin with so I'm not really missing anything.) then she proceeds to guilt trip me into moving close to her (right now I live about 4 hours drive away) She thinks I pay too much for rent and she wants to come see me more often then once every year. She is always asking when I'm coming to see her. When I call mostly she complains about my dad or some other person that's ticked her off. I don't really want to move back to where I came from, it's a really small town with not much to do. At least here there are restaurants, museums, cheap movie theaters. I can't seem to make her understand that. So, I'm frustrated. >:( I guess she's lonely, but maybe she should get some friends herself. ::)
Sorry, I should know better then to talk to my mom and then get online. ;D

I finished my take home Final exam, now I got to figure out a time to study more for the in class exam, lol.

Watched Chronicles of Narnia on Saturday afternoon, wrtoe some Christmas cards and helped the children with theirs. Yesterday I went to look at where we plan to hold next years St George's Day parade, check out the route and make sure the church is big enough to seat everyone. Then spent the eveing wrapping presents and sorting out how much we still need to buy

I still have some stray cards to send out (people whom were not inducted into my address book by accident, lol), so just when I thought they were over and done with (I think I sent out a good 20 already), I still have some more to do.
I think my final tally is 43. :o To me, that is definitely the worse part about Christmas but I know that is the only time when most of those people hear from me. I used to write something personal in each and every one of them but then I FINALLY got smart-I write one letter, print it up and put it in the card. The only thing I have write is my name (and Carlos') and address the envelope.

Just about to drive 40 odd miles to a meeting, then I'm driving back and going to the pub.
What a crap evening it turned out to be!! The meeting was supposed to be a buffet from 6.30 with the meeting starting at 7.00 and finishing about 8.00. I got there about 6.45. The main guest (union general secretary) didn't turn up until 7.15, the meeting started just before 7.30. The union guy promised he would only be taking questions from the audience and then make a very brief speech. His brief speech lasted for 3/4 an hour! They paused at 9.00 to discuss what time the meeting would be going on until. That's when I made my escape!
I finally got to the pub shortly before 10.00 and had one non-alcoholic drink. I couldn't face any more!!

That's why I love having one day off during the week. You don't have to fight the weekend shoppers! I'll be going out today to finish mine, I hope!
Hubby just got back from the grocery store and said it was really busy-those grey-haired old ladies were out in force.
But, he did bring home our Christmas tree. ;D It won't go up for a few days, yet-it is sitting on the porch at the moment.

Well I know this may sound a bit boring to some but I have just been to the newly refurbished Oxford Union Library, mostly because they have a PreRaphaelite freeze around the top of the walls which I was very keen to see.It was beautiful and not normally open to non-members.

Well, I have a migraine so I'd like to be laying in bed.....
Today, I called the roofing contractor who was supposed to be out Friday or Monday to fix our roof and they had no record of me....talked to the builder who built our lake house (because the bank said he hadn't submitted the final paperwork for final payment & release of all liens) who said he got the final payment back in November and the inspector came out also in November to "finalize" the house....talked to the bank who STILL insist he hasn't gotten the final check and that they haven't sent anyone out to verify the house has been completed.....now I'm calling yet ANOTHER person at the bank so she can call the first person and tell her that yes, it's done.....in a few minutes, I have to run to the store to pick up cookies for tonight's Scouts meeting, take back a curling iron that is losing it's coating & trade in some used video games if I have the time before I have to go pick up the boys early from school so I can take my oldest to the doctor.....oh, and I washed/dried the last load of laundry this morning, now I just have it and 1 other load to put away :P
Did I mention I did/have to do all this while managing to NOT throw up? ::)
Well, that took the wind out of my sails. Sorry things are going bad for you today, and with a migraine.
Forget the phone calls, one more day won't matter, forget the curling iron, forget the video games, forget

Well, today we were supposed to get some pretty bad weather. So, I watched the news to see if schools were closed, which they weren't. So my daughter drove to school, and the roads were pretty bad, as I went to work a little before she left. Then at 7:30 they decided to be on a 2 hour delay, the high school kids were already at school. Then about 8:30 they closed school! So, the elementaries were closed but the Jr high and High school were still at school. I'd say someone dropped the ball on this one. The high school cut their bussing earlier in the year because the tax levy failed. So there ya have all these kids on the road, some with no experience driving in the snow. It was just a total mess all the way around. I hope they get their sh!t together next time we have a bad weather forecast.

I have been working today, all the while preparing for a 3-day trip down to Hearst Castle (and the surrounding area) for this weekend. I also have one last final to take tonight and then I'm completely finished with this semester! YIPPEE! I think I am having a carpal tunnel problem today because I'm feeling some intense pain in my left hand when I type. Hopefully I can just wish it away, or Motrin will have to work the magic.

Handed in some project work for DT (glad to have it out of the way - it's the reason I haven't been on much this week), came home and played on GTA, slept for a couple of hours (shouldn't have because it means i'll not get to sleep tonight), and now i'm on here posting for a bit. Also got wound up by this little sh*t on the bus home today, so I din't exactly come home in the best of moods

Well...I had a pretty uneventful day. I made another really good crockpot meal that I let cook all day long, I did some laundry, some cleaning around the house....made a few little crafts...ran to the store to pick up a few things....that's about it.

We might put a tree up this weekend, as far as Christmas that's about as far as we're decorating this year. Not much Xmas spirit going 'round this year. We shall be, however, leaving for a 5-10 day holiday after Christmas, have to say I'm looking more forward to that than Christmas.

Well..tonight was a very touching moment. A group of us went to 3 old folks/retirement homes to sing Christmas carols. I took Vaughn with us and he passed out little ornaments that he and I made, to a lot of the residents. To see their faces lighten up when we gave them an ornament made my night. It was so meaningful to see how much something little like that meant to them. Afterwards, we all went out to this Italian restaurant near us for pizza...it was a very fulfiling evening! :)

Tonight is the annual faculty Christmas party at the college president's house. It is usually the one time during the year that I can "dress-up". The unusal thing was the first dress I pulled out the closet will be the one. It seems a little tight on me but Hubby said that it was beautiful and wants me to wear it.

Sounds like fun! I love to go to functions where I can dress up, which doesn't happen too often.
Today I finally have to make an ornament for our family Christmas get together tomorrow. We've all known about it for months, but I procrastinated, and have no idea what to make now. Everyone makes an ornament then we wrap them and put a number on it and whatever number you pick, that's the one you get. It's fun to see what everyone comes up with. Everyone always wants to get the one my dad makes, because it's always something hilarious! :D

Well..tonight was a very touching moment. A group of us went to 3 old folks/retirement homes to sing Christmas carols. I took Vaughn with us and he passed out little ornaments that he and I made, to a lot of the residents. To see their faces lighten up when we gave them an ornament made my night. It was so meaningful to see how much something little like that meant to them.

Today was a really nice day. I went grocery shopping in the morning and got all of our food for our Christmas dinner that we are hosting at our home....then we all ventured out to get our tree. We were going to get a real tree, but couldn't find one that suited us....so we just decided to go a buy an artificial one....we found one onsale that was really nice. Then...we visited Chris' brother for awhile, dropped Vaughn off at my parents (they were keeping him overnight) and then Chris and I went to a dinner banquet tonight that was held for all of the people who teach Sunday school at church...it was a really fun time! :)

Today i've been down my nanas for a lovely dinner, then me and my mam went to the town and I bought myself a new Ben Sherman top... very nice!
But tonight is gonna be the one... i'm gonna see Coldplay in concert in Newcastle's Metro Radio Arena... and it's gonna rock!!! gonna start getting ready soon, then we're getting a taxi to the interchange, then the metro to Newcastle city centre. It starts at 6ish and will go on until 11, then me and James are meeting up with Sarah and my mam and we're all going for a drink! To put the Chris Martin-shaped cherry on the Coldplay-shaped cake, my mam has actually allowed me to stay off school tomorrow morning! :D

We almost didn't go last night. Finally, I told Carlos that I REALLY wanted to go and he decided that he did, too. So went outside to shovel a path so we could get out of the drive-way. I was planning on doing that myself but Carlos insisted on helping me. I was worried about him doing it because of his back. He said, that it actually felt good.
When we got there, we had our first plate of food before heading to the bar. I was hoping for a pina colada but settled for a strawberry daquari instead-which turned out to be a good thing. My first drink and I ended up wearing it. ::) As I was getting the second plate of food, I put the drink down on the table. There was a little lip and I put the drink right on the lip and half the drink spilled. It wasn't until I sat down that I noticed it was all over the dress. Man, I hate when that happens. The good thing was that the strawberry daquari matched the color of my dress so once it dried, you didn't noticed it.
We did see a lot of people we know-people we haven't seen for a while. As a friend of ours was sitting next to us, she was talking to a guy on the other side of her. When I looked at him, he looked very familar. I then realized that he was the mayor of Rutland (the "big" city that is about 10-20 from here). At one point, this guy walked in and I asked Carlos who he looked like. He said the governor (which was who I thought he looked like too). We weren't too sure but we finally realized that it was him. Of course Carlos had to "corner" him and tell him how much he disagrees with some of the action he has done (he is a Republican governor). So yeah, we met the governor last night. We were surprised that Howard Dean wasn't there because the college president and Howard are very good friends. I did see a big picture hanging on the wall of both of them together. That would have been interesting having Howard there, too. The funny thing was, when we were talking to the governor, I was thinking about making this post (see "You know you are addicted..." thread. ;) )
About 4-5 daquaris, and about 4 plates of food (including a plate of desserts that we brought home with us), it was a great evening (with the exception of spilling that first drink) and we are both really glad we decided to go after all.

I have had a busy weekend...Saturday we went to my husband's company party-that was fun.
Yesterday my Dad and Stepmom came up for the day and we exchanged gifts and had dinner together....and last night we went and saw King Kong at the movies, and we hated it.
Today I went and got a perm, and then came home and cooked supper and then made turtles for another Xmas party we are having. We watched Emmett Otter tonight.
Tomorrow I plan on wrapping my son's Christmas presents...he's all I have left, and he gets out of school Wednesday, so I gotta get it done.

Well...today I completed the main part of the project that I've been workin' on for a good chunk of the year. My supervisor wanted me to compose instructions on how to use the database that I've created; just the basics and stuff. I have put together a switchboard (user interface), but that isn't quite complete, so I didn't put any instrux with that. I will finish the switchboard in 2006, since I do not plan to go to the university at all the rest of the week.
My history professor was not there today, but he did answer the email I sent him last night. He said that he wouldn't be able to give my paper back until after the spring semester starts, which is at the end of next month. I still am curious as to how I did on the paper, though.

This morning we did more cleaning in the house, and I helped my mom prepare the portions for tomorrow's dinner, and my dad went to pick up my grandma and bring her to our house. Then we had dinner at a Marie Callenders restaurant, which we don't normally do on Christmas Eve. In fact, this was our first time ever eating dinner at any restaurant on Christmas Eve; normally we have a gathering at my grandma's house or my great aunt's house, but we're kinda "spread out" this year, so we had to do something else.

Today was quite lovely. We woke up early with Vaughn, so that he could open his gifts from Santa...he was so very excited! Then we had dinner at our house..and my husband made the entire dinner...he wouldn't even let me help..I was so proud of him. Everything turned out great! We had my parents, Beth, my grandma, Chris' mom, sister, brother, and niece over. We then all opened gifts.

Spent the morning preparing the feast for today...which we began eating at 3:00 this afternoon. There were eight of us: me, my mom, my dad, my grandma on my mom's side, my grandparents on my dad's side, and my two uncles (dad's brothers). We all enjoyed it.
We opened most of our gifts after we ate, since there was so much food to prepare; my parents, grandmother and I all pitched in.
Tomorrow, we are NOT gonna go out and shop for anything. :-X Not interested in crowds, thank you very much.

Got up and opened presents with the kids. My husband caught some rabbit that came into our backyard yesterday afternoon, so we sat around and checked him out. I made breakfast, then e-mailed all the Christmas pictures to our family. Called my sister and mother and cleaned up some of the toys that were all over the living room, then I started dinner. After dinner I played some board games with the kids and then gave them a bath and cleaned the kitchen, then put the kids to bed and finished cleaning the kitchen. Now I'm making a lemon tart and hanging out here.

But because there were so many attractions that were closed! :-[ One area of the park was closed off for construction. We have a couple. Thornhill school near my school is pretty bad. It had the worst attendance records in the school survey thing the local paper did a while back
Also Pennywell Comprehensive near where I live is a rough school... but then again Pennywell is a rough estate, and unfortunately it's about 10 minutes down the road from where I live

You're right. :-[ We had no idea that part of it would be closed due to construction and things like that. On top of that, none of the theater venues in the park had any shows for the day. It was rather depressing. I actually had more fun eight years ago with my high school friends!
And now, for what I did today (Wednesday the 28th):
My dad and I rented a car to travel all the way out to Palm Desert, to visit my grandparents on my dad's side. My mom didn't go, since someone had to be home with Chloe dog. Anyway, my dad's parents had a few things which they wanted to give to my dad, and I went along with him to help navigate; also, I wanted to see my grandparents' new house (which they had moved into eight years ago). From Oxnard to Palm Desert (which is located close to Palm Springs, but to the southeast a few miles) is about 183 miles one way. And it took about 2 1/2 hours for us to get out there.
Incidentally, the first (and last) time we had gone out to Palm Desert to see my grandparents was on this date 18 years ago (December 28, 1987). I remember; I was 7 years old at the time. They primarily lived in the L.A. area, but went out to the desert so much because they liked to play golf out there, so they moved out there permanently in '97, and we've only been seeing them when they've come out to visit us (most recently 3 days ago for Christmas). But we finally had a chance to go see them today. :)

I grew up in Fontana. It's about a 20-30 min drive from the 57. Here's a map, I circled the Fontana area.

Yep, and from there we went north up to highway 210. It was my first time on the newer portion of the 210 freeway (which was completed three years ago and is currently designated as state route 210 rather than I-210 because another portion has yet to be completed...the rest of it---from SR 57 westward---is an interstate freeway).
Yeah, I understand that freeway has expanded into the northern part of Fontana. So cool! I wish they had that when I was there. I have noticed that every time I move, the city that I used to live in becomes so much more convenient. How's that? ::)

In some ways, it does become more convenient, and in others, not as much. A year ago, on the day after Christmas, we traveled out to West Covina, to see a friend of my mother's who was dying, and we passed by our old home on the freeway (I-210) and we could see that the shopping center across the street from the mobile home park had expanded, and further down the highway there was a golf course that wasn't there four years earlier...but that could be a good thing in a sense. However, the neighborhood which we used to live in was declining and we didn't really like that area 'cuz it was far from everything else. In addition, when a part of town develops, the down side to that is that there's no more open spaces and stuff. :-\\
That's true. Fontana expanded in the late 80s early 90s and it was basically all the scum from the LA area that moved out there for cheaper housing. Now the part of town that I grew up in is awful. So sad. Sometimes I really want to go home to visit and see my old neighborhood, but it is so run down now that it's just upsetting to be there. From what I understand, Northern Fontana is quite nice now.

Probably so. While I'm on the subject of developing/expanding communities, yesterday when we went to Magic Mountain, we passed through the Valencia/Stevenson Ranch area...that area has really grown over the past few years. We hadn't been up in that area since October of 2001 (mostly because we haven't had a need to), but when we traveled north on I-5, we could see lots of new shopping centers/homes/etc. that weren't there before. Lots of development.
I believe it! That's a nice area. In the hills, slightly cooler weather.

Not in the summertime, though. I'm pretty sure it gets real hot in June/July/August.
But you're right, it is kinda nice up there...even with all the development sprouting up all around. When we were living in the mobile home in Lake View Terrace (just east of San Fernando off I-210), we used to go up there frequently to shop or eat.

Me and some friends went to the park and had a humongous snowball fight. I, for some inexplicable reason, got soaked more than all of the rest put together... and mumsy dearest was not pleased. To quote "You friggin' stupid arse - i've just washed them!"
Then we started looking around for things to use as sledges. We settled for an old bread crate ;D
Came home about 20 minutes ago for my tea :)

I'm trying so hard to get some work done while it's slow. I have to be majorly rushed to accomplish anything and I hate it! At 1:30 I am going to work really hard until 4:00 pm so I don't suffer Tuesday.

I just had to go round the shop for my mam's paper and it was FREEZING outside... saying that, I don't suppose going out with no socks and a thin top on helped much :-\\
