Well, twelve hours have passed since I last said anything on here..

I don't know quite how to say this. I'm going to make as best of it while blinding myself with tears as I can.

A very deep friend of mine has commited suicide. She was fourteen, and expecting a child. I was talking to her on the phone the moment she did it. It's hurt me so much. I've phoned my girlfriend about it, and she's ripping herself up about it as much as I am. I just feel so helpless now.

So I don't feel so good.

My condolensces, Bobo.  I can only imagine how badly you must feel right now, having lost such a close friend.  :\'(

Do not be afraid to seek out a grief counsellor.

Cat and Carlos:

Thankyou, as ever, for your eloquent relief. What's hardest to cope with is that I'm sure something could have been done. But I'm better today than I was yesterday. I still don't think I'm going to get over it easily, though.

It's something that, with the right help and support, I can understand. What's amazing to think, is how close we got in such a short time. But to throw everything away... just doesn't make sense.

We are so sorry Bobo. We know any words that we may say can not ease the pain you are feeling. Maybe you and your girlfriend can help each other deal with the grief you are both feeling. If we can in anyway help you through this, please feel free to PM us but also concider seeking grief counciling. Again we offer both of you our heartfelt condolences and are here for you if you would wish it.

With our regeret for your loss,
Cat and Carlos

Thank you too, Bobby. Stuff happens, but stuff sucks. I don't know any other way of putting it.

Why would she do it? I guess she was looking for the shock she would (and has) given me, and the relief of being where I get the impression she wanted to be.

I don't know. I'm still struggling to understand what went on, and trying to sort through all the memories and everything she's helped me with over the last four months or so.

Thank you too.

Oh man! That is awful! I have no way of consoling you, Bobo. I am really sorry. Why would she commit such an act while on the phone to you? Again, Bobo, I am so sorry to hear such distressing news and I hope you will heal in time.

Thank you Dagwood. At the moment, I don't really know how I should be feeling, so I'm going to get myself together before seeking counsel in anyone. I think that's the most important thing of all.

Oh, Bobo. I am so sorry that happened. I agree with Cat, consider grief counseling. You are in my prayers.

Thanks Howard. Hope and general coolness passed back your way.

Thanks LyricBoy. It's hard to explain quite how hard it's actually hit me, despite me not displaying it well here, it's truly hurting inside.

My condolensces, Bobo. I can only imagine how badly you must feel right now, having lost such a close friend. :\'(

Part of what I'm trying to deal with is the trauma of it. Last night I totally flipped out in terms of what I was thinking, about simply never being able to contact her again, never seeing her again, never hearing her again. I know what she wanted was to be happy, but I didn't know truly how this could have been.

I'm trying to remain philosophical about it, but I'm struggling to find words to explain how I feel, and feel it at the same time, without totally driving myself mental.

Thankyou AV

another a guy who loved me, and even though it has been years I have tears in my eyes now thinking
about it, and knowing what you are going through.  It takes time, and it takes talk, and even though
you know that you are not responsible for what they did, you will always wonder if there is something
more that you could have done.  There isn't.  Remember the good parts, remember them. It will
get easier.

I had a childhood friend (and neighbour down the road) who committed suicide when he was sixteen. We were all going to the same school. It was very traumatic for me and everybody else. I can certainly empathise with how you feel. I know what it's like to lose a friend to suicide.

Those good times were wonderful times, and though they didn't last long, I know they will remain good in my heart for a long time yet.

Thankyou for the good wishes, Danoota.

Thanks manda. It's certainly something I've never really had to cope with, and as such it's going to be hard for as long as the thought lives in my heart and in my mind.

Bobo,

That peace is hers. And even though she is no longer among us, I know where she now is, and that gives me considerable comfort.

G*d I hate housework, and the people who boast about having floors so clean you
"can eat off of them", well would you really want to?  I did some shopping at the local
butchers, went down to look at the waves at the beach(it was low tide, there weren't any)
and went for a swim to wake me up, it made me tired. Now I'm making an upside down
cake for the Labor Day picnic tomorrow,  and eagerly anticipate a Cubs/Red Sox World
Series wherein Cubs take it in the seventh on a HOMAH by NOMAH ;)

I usually get sucked into those sappy Lifetime Movie Channel movies. You know the one, guy leaves girl, girl gets mad, goes pyscho, kills guy, and throws his body in the lake! But wait, there's more. Guy isn't really dead!! It was his twin! Ha ha! Or someone gets amnesia and has to learn all over again who her husband and kids are, they're all about the same etc., etc., etc.,........ :D

Well, today is Monday, and yesterday the love of my life scheduled a trip to come down and see me for the last week of the summer holidays. And despite my having to shield her from a conversation I was having with an emigrated ex-girlfriend, I feel everything has worked out just fine.

That said, I gotta sleep on the floor less often, it's a bumpy ol' thing!

As for what I'm going to do for the rest of the day, draw myself bottles of cider, play the piano, and see to it that we have the best time of our lives. Maybe in reverse order..

I've been trying to catch up with things after being away from work again.  Last week I was on a Union organised course looking at our new agreement on job evaluations and stuff.  It was quite interesting.

As well as catching up on my normal stuff I've been helping pack stuff in another building here at work.  Almost everything needs to be put into storage or moved to a new location.  The building is about to be gutted and have all the asbestos removed.  Originally they were supposed to start work in late June/early July but they are starting next week.  The students arrive 3 weeks later!  So I'm going to be sharing my office and work area with another technician and trying to teach 120 students in a lab space for about 30!  should be lots of fun.

The single best thing in the world to take pictures of, on the grounds that you have a camera, adequate surroundings, and good weather, is a picture of an armada of hot air balloons, firing up their engines. A beautiful sight on frozen pictures. (Plus I always live on the vain hope that Per Lindstrand is in one of them..)

Loving those pictures, Mark.

As for what I'm going to do today, I might go out for a McD's breakfast, seeing as how I'm rather hungry and devoid of breakfasts in the cupboard. Then I'll just settle for being a decent guy for the rest of the day, as I'm rather close to having to make 112 miles of journeying 4 days a week..

Not to mention how college plays havoc with my not-too-distantly-futuristic plans..

OK, I went to the dentist for the cavity (my first in 21 years, so says he!), got my mouth full of Novocaine, then came home, and Rush and I decided we should make an appointment for Morty (one of our guinea pigs) because he hasn't been eating well. Our appointment was 12:30 this afternoon. So, we just got home. I should probably be sleeping now but I'm still full of adrenaline! ARGH!!!!!!! :D

As I first forecast, today's was a McDonalds breakfast, as my girlfriend woke me back up at around 8:25 to head out for a trip. As neither of us are compos mentis at that time in the morning, we phoned for a cab and had it drop us off at a local swimming gala, surrounded by the most beautiful parkland in the world (and, at that time in the morning, no toddlers on pushbikes to try and get one over me, as they so often do).

Being the easily drownable type, I figured it just as well to bring with me a regulation soccer ball and chocolate biscuit or five, instead of swimming accoutrement.

After taking a walk or two down the path, kicking the ball up and down the width of the pavement as necessary, we headed into town, and I got a few stern looks from close friends who happened to notice me, even at that time of the morning. We headed to a coffee bar for a bite to eat, and of course the coffee to go with it.

But as anyone who knows me knows, me and coffee are a dangerous cocktail and as such, I can prove to be dangerous for the rest of the day. So, cradled in each others arms, I decided to sleep it off the only way I knew how. By sleeping.

Good times I've had today, and I hope tomorrow is also so good that I remember so much of it.

I visited the Adams Homestead in Quincy, Massachusetts.  The home of John and Abigail, and
John Quincy.  It has all the original items used by them and even the lilac bushes and hedges
planted by Abigail, and trees from John Quincy Adams who was a botanist.  Very, very interesting.
One special note, the Adams' never accepted personal gifts when they were engaged in public
service, except one.  The Mendi people from the Amistad gave John Quincy a hand tooled
bible.  For someone into history it is overwhelming. I  love this stuff :)

Later on today, I think my girlfriend wants to go home. I don't want her to, though. I may well go with her, if she decides to. The fact that she's made this house her own home (in more ways than one) is not something that I want to contravene if and when she leaves.

So I think today's just gonna be really cool. If I can persuade her to stay, anyway..

Sorry to hear that Fuss.  It's hard enough nursing aging family but the dementia just adds to it.  My aunty was very ill for a long time and my uncle struggled to cope.

Yesterday I went orienteering with the family.  I aimed to finish my course in under an hour and took 59 minutes 59 seconds!  I was about 8th overall.  I really must start doing some more training now the navigating skills are coming back.

Today I'm in work and I expect to be doing more furniture shifting whilst we completely clear a building for renovation.  I've also gots loads of data entry to do but I keep putting it off because its boring.

Finally sorted out going to a meeting tomorrow.  We have known about this meeting since last September, had e-mail confirmation of the exact location and timings since May and we decide the day before that we are definitely going.  ::)  So I end up doing the proverbial blue-arsed fly bit sorting out hire car, route to meeting etc. etc.

Since we have to leave early tomorrow I have also just turned down an invite to the pub for tonight  >:(

Well, it wasn't any of our neighbours who were being obnoxious; some nearby church was having a Mexican festival. We tried calling the cops, but it did no help; I could go on for hours about this. I was trying to do some homework, but I couldn't concentrate the noise was unbearable. I was finally able to do some after 8 P.M. or so.

Sad news, indeed FB (made even worse with the goings-on in your next post...) - a bro-in-law of mine went through all this with his grandmother (tho' thankfully not with money-grabbing relatives attached...) - he still says to this day it was the most heartrending thing he'd ever witnessed...

My thoughts are with you...

I've fancied trying double dutch skipping but have never tried it.  When it was popular here in the 80s a friend and I fancied having a go but we could never get her sisters to turn one skipping rope properly, never mind two so we never tried it.

Today I got up at 8:30 which is really early for me, went into Hailsham* town (I'm staying here at my mums while I look for a flat in worthing with my boyfriend) and brought new batteries and put some credit on my phone, then I came back home and sat around talking to people on msn before putting the washing out and doing the washing up, then I went offline after looking for jobs played on my gamecube for a bit and now I'm back because I'm bored....I'm also feeling a little sad at the moment because My boyfriend is all the way in Worthing and I'm stuck here on my own while everyone is at work or school, and I have nobody to talk to :(
But I'm a bit happier because Me and Chris have made arrangements to meet up in town on sunday and then we'll go and stay at his parents til monday when he's gonna come stay here til wednesday night so i'll have a bit of company in this otherwise boring (in a so boring washing up and laundry becomes appealing kind of way) town. I'm happy though because even though I don't post that much anymore (apologies I can't get online much at the moment) I like to read whats going on in all your lives and it always cheers me up to know that distance doesn't mean that you can't feel close to people and thats part of the reason I think me and chris are still together even though we're miles apart at the moment. So Thank You All for cheering me up when I was feeling all down.  :)
Now I'll probably sit around here for a bit til mum gets back and we go and get my youngest brother from school and then I'll probably sit around and watch stupid kids tv with him and eat food and maybe play more computer games...lalala lifes so not thrilling at the moment :P

Love and hugs Kay xxxx

The last time I did "Endless Love" was, I believe, shortly after getting engaged to Rush (though not the same night), and we sang it together. I started bawling in the middle of the song and couldn't finish!! :D

Usually I sing the same stuff I listen to. The place we go to has Ultravox, Midge Ure, Depeche Mode, The Smiths and lots of other good 80's artists, so I sing whatever songs they've got of theirs. I'm the resident "80's girl." :)

Thanks, AV!  :)  "Superstar" and "Killing Me Softly With His Song" are fun songs to sing.  ;)

I actually had a tough time with "Endless Love" because the man I was singing with strolled over to my booth and was staring at me while singing his part.  It made me feel a bit uncomfortable (especially with hubby sitting right beside me) and I ended up missing a part that was supposed to be mine.  People still applauded though!  :D

I also prefer singing the music that I listen to.  As much as I love Ultravox, I really don't think I could sing their songs.  My voice is more suited to the softer, slower songs of the 70's.  :)

You didn't go on stage? Or was there a stage to go on to? I've always gone on stage. The only thing I find intimidating about it is how high the stage is. Rush and I used to go to this one place where the stage was so high that, because of my enormous fear of heights, it took me several weeks to get used to. I was shaking the first few times!!!

I can sing just about anything...even country. I used to sing some Shania Twain songs once upon a time, but I didn't want to gain a reputation as a country fan, because I'm not!! I can't sing heavy metal though (not that I'd want to) and I sound terrible singing punk. I have enough power in my voice through loads of practice to handle stuff like Ultravox, but I've had times where I couldn't muster enough of it and it sounded awful. Anyway...I'm sure you could sing "Vienna" if you tried!!! ;D

Well I had loads of fun at the karaoke club last night!  Some of the songs I sang include...

Yesterday Once More (Carpenters)
Superstar (Carpenters)
Hold Onto The Nights (Richard Marx)
Annie's Song (John Denver)
Nobody Does It Better (Carly Simon)
Killing Me Softly With His Song (Roberta Flack)

I SO admire your courage! I only did it once and it was a blast...I sang a Doors Song (People Are Strange)
People Are Strange
People are strange when you're a stranger
Faces look ugly when you're alone
Women seem wicked when you're unwanted
Streets are uneven when you're down

When you're strange
Faces come out of the rain
When you're strange
No one remembers your name

When you're strange
When you're strange
When you're strange

People are strange when you're a stranger
Faces look ugly when you're alone
Women seem wicked when you're unwanted
Streets are uneven when you're down

This was a very small bar and so there was no stage.  And if there were, I don't think I'd be able to drag myself up there in front of everybody!  I'm happy just singing at a table with some friends around me.  :)

Cat may appreciate this one- I'm going out to Concord, Sleepy Hollow Cemetery and have coffee with
Henry David, Louisa May, Ralph Waldo, and Nathaniel. I like to visit once or twice a year.  There
usually are a couple of others there and there is always something to talk about. (I'm not completely
crazy, just love graveyards, and paying homage to people in them) ;)

I spent most of today in a meeting checking job evaluation scores here at work (using the Hay scheme if anyone is familiar with it).  Then sorted out someone's research time in my lab area.  He originally asked to use it in August when we were relatively quiet but didn't get his act together.  Now we're busy and he wants to use it 3 times this week and once or twice next week!

After dinner and putting the children to bed I'm going to the pub with some friends for a beer or two.  :D

I spent the morning sorting through journal articles which I need to add to a database and then file.  I'm doing more of this this afternoon.

I had a lunchtime meeting as a nursery parent on their consultative committee.  We discussed plans for extending the nursery.  It's something they've wanted to do for a while and they've been given some money to pay the architect to do the initial work.  Not sure the work will be completed before my youngster leaves but its still nice.

I love Howard Zinn.  I worked out at BU for awhile and he was a thorn in the side of John Silber because
he had tenure and the cajones to say what he wanted, many didn't. A friend took a class with him and
said he was a nice guy, and tough in his knowledge.  Hope it was good.

My sister is visiting from San Francisco so we will catch up on family stuff and life today.

It was excellent. But we forgot our book for him to sign.  :\'( I did manage to get the college's "photographer" to get a pic of Carlos and him together. He seemed very nice and very insightful.

The funny thing before he spoke, a collegue of Carlos' introduced him but did mention Carlos' letters to the editor. (He did get some applause). He also mentioned that Howard Dean will be there next week and we can all come to hear him "scream". lol

Dean came here to campaign for his cousin who is running for County Mayor.  I didn't go hear him speak, but he did an interview on a local radio station.  It was interesting.  He seems like a smart man...he didn't do the scream, though. **pouts**

(I was voting for his cousin anyway...his opponent thinks she is above the law and needs to go down)

Today is gonna be a good day. I'm not at college, and I don't have to go for a piano lesson either, due to an array of quite sad events all happening at the same time during the last week.

Yesterday I got up to quite a few things at college which I enjoyed, and today I'm just going to chill out and maybe do something wierd and outright off-the-wall. Because it's Friday.

To my surprise, the woman in the other car was very calm about it.  On the other hand I could hardly write my name and address as I was shaking  :-\\  Total impact speed was about one MPH, I should hope they were ok !  ;D

Damage was done, to HER car, see below for details !  No enough to call the fuzz, no  :)

Has your daughter got over the trauma yet?  ;)

Yes, she is by now old enough to have wisely chosen not to have made a big deal of it.  Clever Girl  ;)

Fuss, you got her more, right? ;)  Sorry to hear about your little fender bender :(

Ummm, yessss.....  She had backed out behind me, from a different position, 2 up from me.  She had reversed 'further' than normal, because she wanted to turn out of an adjacent exit.

I on the other hand, had looked the other way, and seen nothing, and started backing up.  I remember changing from the over the shoulder view to the rear vision mirror and seeing her there.

I remember that just as I hit the brake, the cars hit.  Bummer, split second too late.

Thing is, I have a towball on my car.  Her rear door and rear wheel guard were no match for my towball's incredible 1 MPH inertia  :o :D :-[ :-[ :-[ :-[

Hey !  She got white paint on my towball !  ::) >:( >:( >:( >:( :\'(
