I underestimated the weather and got sunburnt as well, resinchaser. I got a bit of a water blister on my cheek at the moment. It burst this morning. :(
I must be sounding like a stuck record by now, but will you two (and anyone else) please take it careful in that sun...
I'm 'recovering' after a day spent down the coast with various pieces of the family (one sister and a shedload of kids...) - the traffic unbelievably behaved itself, and a great time was had by all...

I have to agree with you about being careful in the sun. Unfortunately, I had skin cancer removed from my nose a few years ago, from all of the sun worshiping. Believe me, it was not a pretty sight :( I'm fair skinned and now I don't care if I look pale compared to everyone else. I don't want to go through that again.

I'm taking a ride up to the country to a real "we make our own ice cream" stand
and have a hot fudge sundae with "we make our own" frozen pudding ice cream.
If you are in the area Bensons in Boxford(Ma.) is the best. To double your fun put a
Kerry sticker on your car. If you know Boxford you know what I'm talking about, if
you don't it will be obvious when you get there.

Went to church. Didn't stay for the two sessions of nursery, though. Sarah had a tummy ache so we went home. I felt like I was playing hookey or something. ;)
Tonight I will be bringing Sarah back to her Aunt's house for her last week before the sitter comes home.

Then took other daughter to look for a job, but they don't hire kids her age too much around here( she's only
15 1/2, and she wants to make some money to buy some of the extra stuff she wants). Now, I'm in for the evening because it's hotter than you know what, out there!!!! :D

I wouldn't mind some of that myself, truth be told...but, in the department marked 'Real World', I am currently up to my armpits and back in dusty old boxes and archive files, as the firm is 'supposed' to be moving at the weekend...
However, I can't see it being done in time, so I'll probably be sitting at my desk on the pavement come Monday morning...!

I spent all morning discussing a new Travel Policy for the place where I work. At least now I know what they spend my parking fees on.
This afternoon I'm going to take some photos of new staff for the website and potter around the lab with a few things. I still have a room to make light tight for some experiments next term.

Fine, Paul! You've got me in a position I can't get out of, now.
To tell you the truth, it's worse than that, and she has the engagement ring as sure proof. Mr. Sneaky Matt, on the other hand, was far too sneaky for his own good, and this will surely come and bite him back in the posterior.
This made all the more easy by the fact that I'm now for certain not going to go to college next year, and I can spend 297 of next year's 365 days practising playing Scrabble at her's.
(Edit: But keep it all shushed, there are certain people I don't want knowing!)
I hope the work situation is sorted out at your end, Paul. As for me, for the next eight months, the signature line, courtesy of W. H Tyrus, is enough to put across everything necessary.
Aha! Would that be what you wasn't going to reveal?!!

I'm going to try and finish sewing some curtains tonight so we can put them up in the newly decorated study. Maybe it will inspire me to finish putting all the books and stuff back :-\\
At the weekend we're getting together with a friend at his house. It looks like the weather should be decent so we can kick the kids out into the garden (his two are similar in age to mine) whilst we catch up on whats been happening. We're planning to go camping with him and his children at the end of August so we need to make some plans.

Went and picked up my baby. We went to an aquarium exhibit. They are building a big one, but this is part of what we will see. They had a pond with Rays that you could touch. A tank with Lepoard, Black Tip and Nurse sharks. And an octopus named Murray. I loved the rays and the sharks. I can't wait for the real one to open.
Tonight we are going to the baseball game. Big leaguer, Andres Galaraga is playing on our team for a couple of weeks. Can't miss it.

Well, it's Sunday, we're promised 85 degree temperatures, and the sun will soon be shining. There's not much else to do than to venture out on the highway, cowboy music in the air, tumbleweeds in the.. air, generally, a beating breeze at the door, and the one I love by my side.
Except for staying home, naturally. And we all know how much that sucks.

It is seriously raining here today. I was going to pop into town and buy myself to trousers I spotted in a sale on Saturday (if they still have any in my size). However I don't really fancy doing that given how heavy the rain is.
I also need to go to my daughter's sport's camp today to sort out all her lost property. She has managed to loose a waterproof coat and her swimming kit and the leaders don't seem to know where it is or care that it is missing. >:( Although she is a reasonably bright child she is only 5 years old and still needs reminding to keep her kit together. They don't have any coat hooks or anywhere to keep the stuff so it just gets left in whatever room they are doing the activity in. Then when she changes room she just forgets to pick her bags up and they don't seem to check that the room is empty before letting it be locked up.
I'm getting very fed up with them this time. There has been lots of niggly things going wrong all the time. I think its getting time to write to Head Office!

I have made a big decision regarding my job.
Work has been really slow and I had to go from being the Quality Control Director back to just being a keyer. It has been an average of a $2-3 an hour cut in pay. Well, I was looking at my paycheck stub today and realized that my insurance premium has doubled. Apparently, the boss decided she couldn't afford to pay as much of our insurance as she was. that doesn't bother me so much, what does is that she didn't tell us to give us the chance to cancel.
Well, I decided to cancel my insurance (pray that my daughter doesn't get sick) and look for another job that will give me hours. I am the sole support of my family and can't afford this anymore.
Funny thing is, I feel much better now that the decision has been made.

So far I've dropped little one at nursery and then dashed into town with my daughter to buy some sunglasses. It's "Shorts and Shades" day at sports camp and she didn't have any and had a major strop because she had]/u] to have some today! Therefore I was late for work (again) ::)
I'm going to Pizza Hut for lunch. It's just opened here so people from work are going to check it out.
I'll have to leave work early today because hubby is working away (in Seattle) and I'm fetching both children. Sports camp finishes earlier than afterschool club did and its further away from work so it's a bit of a rush.
Aiming to get the little one asleep before 10.30 tonight!

I'm sorry that things happened this way for you, Dagwood, but I'm sure you've made the right choice by deciding to look for a job that will pay you better.
Everything will work out. :)

Thanks for the wishes, guys. I have found myself wishing I could get laid off so I could collect unemployment while I looked for another job. Sad to say, but I would make more money on unemployment.
Oh well, it will all work out fine. There is a job out there for me that has the hours I need to support my family.
Sorry I didn't see this until late Dagny....I hope things work out best for you ;)

Thanks, all.
I talked to my boss today. I am going to drop coverage on the short one...my boss pays 100% of my coverage and I pay 100% of the kids. I am going to check into the local CHIP program, which is reduced or free insurance for lower income children. I am also going to see if I can get just individual coverage for her at IHC. I am also going to check with her school to see if they know of anything. Her school is in a low income area so they might have information on insurance for the kiddos. Until I find ins for her I will take half the premium I usually pay for her and set it aside as a sort of medical expense account.
Our insurance at work is incredibly expensive because we have people with diabetes, heart problems, lots of babies, hypochondria, etc. It sucks, but what can I do. I think that all insurance companies need to have a medical savings plan so that people like us don't have to be penalized for the people who are always going to the doctor. I visit once a year and Sarah goes once a year. We haven't been to any other appts (sickness or emergency) for 2 yrs. My premiums more than pay for what we get out of it. Medical savings would be the way to go.
I feel like bad mommy dropping her health insurance, but also needs a roof over her head. It sucks when it comes down to this. I need to find a job with a company that doesn't rely on work from other companies outsourcing. When the belts get tightened in the bigger companies the first thing they cut is the outsourcing.

Asking her school is a good idea. There should be options for insuring a child. Now on a lighter subject, how is Nomar? I am from Massachusetts, but not a Sox fan, would love to see him in the series. He did a lot of charity stuff here, you guys will love him.

I did a search online and found a policy for her only for $39 a month, and her doctor is already a provider. I am going to call the ins company tomorrow for more info. With my employer, I would have to pay $160 a month for her. Slight difference.
I should be able to find another job. I am not picky about what I do, I just need to be able to pay the bills. If I do quit my job, I can cash out my 401K and there is enough in there to pay off my credit cards, which is a huge chunk of my bills.
Danoota, as for Nomar...I am not in Illinois, but I am dang happy the Cubbies got him. He seems to have added what the team needed...they are doing well again. Thanks for handing him over, even though it probably sucked to have him leave.

Maybe you should see if you could talk to some kind of financial advisor before cashing in the 401K. That should always be a last option. Get all the credit cards on one low interest card(internet search), a budget , anything. I've seen to many people who just needed some help managing what they have, instead they have put themselves in a bigger hole.

Thanks for the advice...but I am on a budget. I just am not getting the hours so I am living on $50 a week after all the bills are paid. I am only in debt $7000 with the credit cards, but they are a huge chunk of the budget. If I could get my hours I would be ok. It's just that I am not getting the hours. I am on my last options now...aside from losing my house and living on the street.

Dag, Danoota's right...cashing out the 401K wouldn't be in your best interests. First off, they take 10-20% right off the top as a penalty and then you get screwed again when you do your taxes. If at all possible, keep paying the minimums for now or consolidate them all onto a new one with an introductory 0% interest rate (or see if one of them has a 0% balance transfer option) and pay the minimum until you get back on track. As a last resort, you might be able to borrow against it, but then you'd still have an additional payment until you get it repaid.
The problem with this is my credit sucks. I can't consolidate, believe me, I have tried. (I am paying minimums now) The way my 401K is set up I can't borrow against it, unless I am in extreme hardship, basically loosing my house. I refuse to let it get that far. The only other way I would be able to get the money is to terminate my employment. Hopefully I will have a better job soon and it will be a moot point...I will be able to roll the 401K over to an IRA or something. There is only $5000 in there right now, anyway, so with my loss of income so far this year, it would put me where I normally sit. I don't make a whole lot and being a single mom don't pay alot of taxes.

I've had days like that too Bobo! Don't be too hard on yourself.
Today I've got sinus (yuk!) A friend dropped in this morning for coffee. Mum came over and helped me in the garden. My husband and I did some shopping for my father-in-law's 80th birthday. We bought him a new budgie (which was really beautiful) and a huge cage. The celebration is tomorrow. My husband took me out for lunch then he went to have his skin cancer check-up which went very well (considering it IS black Friday!). This afternoon i've cleaned the house and cooked dinner for the family.

Talking to the credit card companies could help, and chop the things up. I am a single with one and make very good money, but it hasn't always been this way. Now I am playing catch up with things like retirement and preparing for old age, so my house is small, cars are used, vacations are few, wardrobe is small, and the credit card(one) stays home. It also helps if you date a mechanic.

My accounts are all closed, I am just paying off the balance. I have learned my lesson about the dang things, trust me.
Today I am going to check on that insurance policy for my daughter, then I am taking her to the eye doctor. School starts in a week and she needs glasses. There is a place here where I can get two pair for $69.95 plus and extra $15 for the warranty. Jumping on that.

It makes me sad to think that these issues are causing you so much worry. Although Australia is nowhere near perfect you could go to a Public Hospital and get glasses for your daughter for a nominal amount. When my mother's brother and sisters visit from America they are amazed at the price of our drugs and medical procedures. My father underwent a medical procedure last year which cost $168 and my aunt in America has just had the exact same test which cost $750!

That's a great deal (America's Best?) It's OUTRAGEOUS what they charge for glasses these days. Luckily, hubby has insurance or our oldest's would've cost us almost $300 :o
Yeah, America's Best is a great place. It cost me $78 and that includes the lenses and coating. The frames I wanted to get her would have been $200 or so..they are the ones that bend. Makes them hard to break. I guess we will stick with two pairs in case one breaks. I will be able to pick them up Friday.
I applied at Debtfreechristian.org to help with my bill situation. I can't get the cc companies to drop my interest but companies like that can...and they can deal with them companies. I know it doesn't look good on my credit, but I am paying the bills and it looks better than a bankruptcy. My credit isn't a big deal right now, anyway. I am planning on saving for a new car...no more car payments. I like not having a car payment.

I am with you on that one. I could never understand working for a car, because that is what you do when you are making car payments every month. It is good if you know someone who is a good mechanic, and do some research to find a dependable car. Like I said in another thread, I have a 75 Plymouth with very low mileage. That is the way I prefer to go. Solid, used, dependable, Low maintenance. Of course if I hit the lottery I would go for the Cadillac, but I don't see that happening to soon, :o wait, :o :o I feel some vibes..., gotta go... gotta play a number.

That's right, Danoota. It is near where I live and it is the setting of the famous sitcom 'Fawlty Towers'.
As for me, I feel relieved today because, over the past three days I have been getting a weird feeling in my left hand (like pins and needles and the tips of my fingers felt like they had been burnt) and I was worried that it was something sinister. I went to the doctors today and he said that it was a nerve problem in my hand that originates from my funny-bone (why it's called a funny-bone I don't know). He said the pain should go of it's own accord.
I feel happy now. :D

That's good Bobby. Carlos also had "pins and needles" in his hand and his pinky was numb. Come to find out, it was a nerve in his neck. He got a home traction thingy to stretch his neck and he now has feeling again in his hand. In fact, he hardly uses the traction now.

We had a great time! I don't skate, so I took video of the kids' first adventure on ice. My 8-year-old daughter took to it well and was out there the whole time. My son, who is much younger, tried it a few times (with his daddy by his side) but then gave up. I'm sure both the kids will be good skaters after a few more trips to the rink! :)

That's great. :) Like I said, I've never been ice skating, but I have been roller skating.
I was 8 2/3 when I first went roller skating. The date was March 21, 1989. A kid in my third grade class had invited me to his birthday party at the "Skateland" and I was inexperienced at roller skating. So one of my friends (who happened to be there as well) showed me how. So I became progressively better, and four months later, I had my birthday celebration there. In December of that same year, my mom had a roller skating accident; she fell down and someone accidentally skated over her (ouch! :o) and permanently dislocated the bone in her right wrist. (I didn't see it happen, but she explained it in the car on the way home.)
I haven't been roller skating the day after Christmas in 1996 (I was 16 at the time), so if I should go again, I'll probably forget!

i was in winnipeg(canada) a couple of years ago to visit friends..while we were having drinks before we headed out to party,i mentioned that it would be so much fun to go rollerskating again since i hadn't gone in years and most rinks have closed..my friend opened the phonebook, made a call and the next day my dream came true ;)
the funniest part was telling my friends that i thought my skates were broken as i stood on the carpet forgetting how to move my feet..my friends reassured me that if i could move them at all, they weren't broken,i was just timid.after the first twenty minutes,i was back in my groove!

Went to a first birthday party for Carlos' granddaughter. She was so alert and was right there enjoying the spotlight. It was also a baby shower for Carlos' eldest daughter. It was a lot of fun. When we got there, I got drafted into playing a couple of games of "go fish" with a 6 year old attendee. (I did win one game. :)) We drove up in the pouring rain but on the way home, it looked like the Sun was trying to make its appearence.
Tomorrow we head out to sea (ok out to "lake") for an extended trip. It is last full week of summer vacation and our calender is FREE! We are bringing the cats with us and who knows when we will be back.

We got back from our boat trip today. It had good points and bad points.
Bad points: We got rained on-AGAIN.
-We had one day when the wind was whipping really hard, the waves were up and we were being tossed around all day-and night.
-We have two sinks. The one in the galley works off of the battery which is great-hands free. But we lost the pump to our water system. So we had to use the one in the head that you have to physically pump.
-It got really cold at night. We do have extra sleeping bags which we finally took out. So, even though this was a bad point one night, the next night it didn't matter because with those extra sleeping bags, we were nice and toasty.
-And the worse part of the trip-today, after we put the boat on the mooring and was rowing to shore in the dinghy, I got stung by a bee-TWICE in the arm. It still hurts.
-Well, not really too sure if the bee stings were the worse-what may be worse was listening to NPR on the radio and they played Bill Shatner "singing" (I don't think you can call that singing) Lucy in the Sky with Diamonds. AGGGGGGHHHHHH!!!!!!
Good points:
-We did have one nice day of sailing. The wind was steady but not too much.
-The cats seem to take it all in strive. They seemed ok-even when the boat was rolling and pitching constinately.
-Last night's fishing was GREAT. Got a lot of white perch.
-Just being out there.

He goes back on Thursday. He is in special education because he has PDD(pervasive development delay) which causes him to have a hard time having a conversation, but he does well with the help he gets. I'm a bit worried because this is the year when we may see a bit of a rise in kids who will make fun of him, but he has a few of the boys who look after him, they are impressed at his skill on the game boy, so hopefully it won't be too bad.

Went to aquaerobics. Did the ironing. Went grocery shopping. Cooked all afternoon. Made three dozen sausage rolls, a lasagne, a quiche, and three salads. Went to son's First Communion. Had all the family over for dinner. It's been a very nice day. :)

I'm gonna talk to my friend Robert to tell him I'm definitely coming over to Albany to finally see him after we've had trouble trying to find a date to see each other and Labor Day is it.I haven't seen him in 2 years. :)

Are you thinking of the fruit, Howard? If so, then that is it. She wrote it on the banana skin. ;)

It is a cronic problem with him. It looks like we are going to have to bring him in every couple of months to get "cleaned out". ::) He doesn't like it but I think he feels better now that it is done.

Church then home.
I did get good news today. There is a chance I could be a full time member of the Children's Ministry. It is a paid position. I am going to go talk to the head of the ministry and the Pastor tomorrow. I would love to work full time at the church. If it is what God wants for me I will do it.

Well, by my calculations, today is Monday, and I've only got one more week of summer left. It sounds like I'm not going to be able to write the best music album ever in just one week's time, and finding the time to do it otherwise sounds impossible.
But who knows, if things work just right, the dice may land in the right place and.. who knows.

Had my ceramics student over this morning, loaded my kiln for a bisque firing (which I'll probably do tomorrow), went with the family to Wal*Mart, relaxed for a bit, then cooked dinner. :)

One hour later, or thereabouts, and I'm more certain of today's plan. Having had the strangest day in memory yesterday (my memory only spans one day at the very most), I'm going to visit a certain friend of mine and do what I do best. Make an a*s of myself dab in front of the person I love most.
And then there's tomorrow which will be a bit P-Q-leah, but I'll get to that nearer the time.

Today is the day Hubby makes his announcement that he will be taking early retirement to take effect in May. I'm not too sure how I feel about it because I really love the time I have alone when he is at work. I guess I will have to come up with a "honeydo" list-"Honey, do this, honey do that" :D ;)

Taking early retirement is cool (I wish I could do that ;D). I know how you feel about your private time. Since I have been with my girlfriend, I have valued my private time with a passion.

Ok, now listen, I'm older and have been around. Find that man a job! It seems that the one thing I hear from women is that having a guy around the house all day is a killer of relationships. Perhaps he has always wanted to write a book, or do volunteer work, or whatever. Or maybe it is time for you to get out and return to what it is you want to do, and have him be the stay at home. Whatever it is, do it. People plan their careers, it is just as important to plan their retirements. This is all tongue in cheek/serious. that being said, we are all here for you, the "my husband retired and is home all day please help" Club :o ;D ;D ;D

I know exactly what you mean (3,6,9 here). Although, since I started school and have the littlest potty trained and in preschool, I do get a couple of hours at the gym by myself...well, at least with noone in my family bugging me :P
I'm glad that you're finding a bit of time for yourself, Cheer. My husband is trying to convince me to go back to school, especially since he is now working for the University here (which means I would get a tuition waiver). I'm so used to being home all the time for my kids, but if I can be sure that it wouldn't be a problem for my father-in-law to watch my son for a few hours each week, I might just enroll. Perhaps in the Spring...I really need to think about it some more. :)

Well, today, the first thing I'm going to do is weigh up the pros and cons of each pronunciation of the word 'oregano'.
Then when the real world starts, I'm going to be a good boy and visit my girlfriend when she least expects it. Eight o clock in the morning. Unless I'm not finished with the 'oregano' problem, in which case I'll ask 'er kindly to hold 'er 'orses and wait slightly longer in the event that I'm not going to be ready to trip out at that time.
o-RE-ga-no? O-re-ga-no?
I'm still up a plasma tree with this one. But worry not. I'll decide eventually.
And then, at five o clock in the afternoon, maybe I'll get back from there, eat some food and dream of the future.

Well, twelve hours have passed since I last said anything on here..
I don't know quite how to say this. I'm going to make as best of it while blinding myself with tears as I can.
A very deep friend of mine has commited suicide. She was fourteen, and expecting a child. I was talking to her on the phone the moment she did it. It's hurt me so much. I've phoned my girlfriend about it, and she's ripping herself up about it as much as I am. I just feel so helpless now.
So I don't feel so good.
