I had cross country practice this morning. We had to run the course as hard as we could. It wasn't much fun since it was pouring, but I got my best time. Since then I've been relaxing, trying to enjoy my last week and a half of vacation before school starts.

I volunteered and got my PPD checked.

went shopping, got all the school supplies for the kids and some new school clothes. nothing left to do to get them ready for school.

So my Jake, who has autism, has developed a fixation on the Greek Orthodox Church and its recently departed Archbishop Iakovos.  He kept saying he wanted to go to a Greek Church so today we got in the car and took him over to the Hellenic College in Brookline Massachusetts because, by coincidence, that is where Iakovos wasburied.
I drove up to the cathedral and a woman asked if she could help, I explained what was going on and she gave us a tour of the cathedral, walked us over to the Archbishop Iakovos library, got the keys to the Iakovos collection room that is a mini museum with his vestments, pictures, awards(including the Presidential Medal of Freedom), and icons.  One of the priests accompanied us and gave us all kinds of information on Iakovos, who was pretty cool, actually. www.goarch.org/en/archbishop/iakovos/biography.asp .  On top of all this Iakovos is Jacob in Greek.  So it was pretty much an out of the ordinary day  :)  Tonight we will go to Friday Night Flicks, I think they are showing Lemony Snicket.

Going to a "teen club" to watch my daughters band play. Nothing like being in a club with 250 screaming teenagers  :o

took the kids to the exhibition, got there at 12:30, didn't get home till 7:30. I think they went on every ride about 5 times(thankfully I got them the ride bracelets-gets them onto the rides as many times as they want without costing extra) they won a few of the games. they had fun and I am very tired :)

Realise I have depression and so will go to the doctors to get a counselling appointment on Monday. 

At least admitting it is half the battle, eh?  :)

However! Let it be said that any problems you do have, nobody minds having a word with you.

The one thing i will say.. DO NOT! Start taking anti-depressants. You've seen what happened to Jake Roberts with all his different prescriptions, those things are a vicious circle. You take Prozac to make you happy, you take ambien to sleep, you take upers to get up in the morning, you have to take something stronger to get to sleep.

For a while i was taking Xanax so i could sleep. It basically chills you out. My problem is i can't stop my mind.. literally it races at a mile a minute.. I started taking Xanax and not long after i was having THE WORST DREAMS EVER! Anyway, it alters your brain chemistry, i was taking a prescription pill that makes the chemicals in my brain do weird crap. NOT ANYMORE!

Be carefull what they tell you to do.

Good luck whatever you choose to do mate, i hope you feel a lot better soon.

I do believe in depression because I also suffer from it.  It is something that comes on without warning and can't be helped. There are medical conditions that cause depression sometimes and even chemical imbalances can do that. It's not something fun to go through.

I had Robin over my house yesterday while my parents weren't home.I'm not going to say what we did but I'll say this it got pretty intense ;)

I awoke early to a wonderful pm from Jessica :) I'm off to my mom and dads for breakfast in a few and then I'm taking Elizabeth's daughter Susan to the gym for a workout.  To all who like me, I'll be back this afternoon, to all others...Fair Warning ::)

Right now I am waiting for significant other to get here.  He's taking us to Cambridge for a go round of
antique stores, maybe a nosh.  It is grey and windy and they are saying it is going to be a bit stormy which doesn't bode well for the Rolling Stones.  They kick off their world tour at Fenway Park tonight and Tuesday night.  No, I'm not going.  I kinda stopped going to stadium concerts about 20 years ago.  It really doesn't have much to do with listening to music does it?  I was surprised to here that Keith Richard lives in Connectictut.  Can't see why he'd want to settle there, but there you have it.

Andy, you will have my word I will not be taking anti-depressants because I know that I don't have biological chemical imbalances in the brain (which anti-depressants help). My problems are circumstantial and therefore don't require them - I just need somebody to talk things through.  :)

Cheers Andy, it's the first and probably most difficult step to make, admitting there is something wrong so at least that's an improvement in itself. I'm off to the doctors tomorrow morning to get an appointment, I just hope when I ask for counselling, he isn't going to try and palm some tablets on me as they won't help.

The difficult part is knowing how you can help yourself for starters. That's where the counsellor comes in - hopefully.  :)

I have no intention of bending people's ear 'oles, lol. I am a rational person (deep down) and will try to talk to people in as positive way as I can.

I must stress to people that being depressed is not about being 'down'. Being 'down' is a by-product if you will. The depression I can identify with is essentially a collapse of the ego and a resulted distortion in thinking which then leads to the mood problems.  :)

I think you just need a bit of luck mate. I don't know what other people you have told certian things so i'll keep schtum, but i know you've had some tough breaks recently. I dare say if you get some good things going on you'll buck up a bit.

I also know you had tremendous problems before you left for St Louis (keeping schtum too  ;)) and it was the problems you had that were making you feel down. IMO there aren't many people out there who are down for the sake of it - if they search deep into their minds and hearts and touch their own 'nerves' if you know what I mean, then and only then have they got a chance of beating it.  :)

I am referring to desentizing the real agony within a person that causes them to feel the way they do time and time again. Identifying that cause is the problem for a lot of people because it is so deep, ingrained and so sensitive to the person that they will often refuse to visit 'the demon' so to speak - another bad choice of words? Who cares.  ;D

As i say, i don't really know much about Depression as a whole.. your talking to a man who dosen't believe in stress either. In my eyes, it's just a challenge, an obstacle if you will, that you can't go round or over so you have to go straight through it.

I have often said on the boards that 'it's all a matter of perspective'. Some people see it in your way, a challenge, other people see it in a totally different way based on their own experiences and what has happened to them in life. The challenge is to try to turn the negative into a positive and quite often it takes more than ourselves to attempt this - which is why I have to do what I have to do.  :)

Who knows, maybe i'm a stressed out manic depressive  ;D I doubt it, but because i don't really know about these things i couldn't say.

It's only through experience that I know what I know mate and you are correct, if we don't know we have a problem, we will continue in the same way. Psychiatrists say that a problem is a problem if it totally affects your life. For example, if you are an insomniac, it becomes a problem if it affects your professional or personal life.

Depression has affected my personal life therefore I have a problem.  :)

Here in Shippensburg they had this cow crapping contest. It was where they made squares in a field and people payed 2 dollars per square and if the cow crapped in your square you got like 500 dollars. It was quite pitiful.

That reminds me.  There was a festival in Victorville, CA called The Huck Finn Festival.  They were having a cow crap tossing contest.  All the contestants got a flattened piece of cow crap and who ever could toss it the farthest won. ::)

I remember when the schools in my area were on a year round system. (But it was only for two years. Both years I attended winter session school.) In 1992, Valentine's Day fell on a Friday, and the initial plan was to go back that day, but they decided it would be crazy, since you'd get three non-school days right after that (Saturday, Sunday, and Monday--Presidents Day), so they had us go back on Tuesday the 18th. Which made more sense.

Anyway...I'm just finishing up a project in my volunteer work today. I want to have it done before the fall semester begins next week. My parents are going away on vacation beginning on Wednesday, and they'll be back Sunday. And I have to stay home and take care of the house and the dog. And my project is almost done. :)

I am going out to dinner tonight with my mom, Beth, and a few of our friends...and Chris is babysitting! :D

Took a ride up to Lowell and went into the Church of the Transfiguration.  It is not that I am religious, the inside of the church is total walls and ceiling mosaic tiles.  Absolutely beautiful artwork. Then I had a fat free ice cream since I am watching the cholesterol, and I must say it wasn't that bad...black raspberry. 

I had cross country practice this morning, which was...fun. Then this evening I played my dad in tennis, and sadly he beat me 7 games to 2.  :-[

I worked today from 10:30am-6pm
Came home and had dinner
Worked on drawing a logo for a co-worker's restaurant
And, now I am enjoying all your company :0)

A bit of a graphic designer, eh? That sounds great! I wanted to do that myself but couldn't get into Art College because I did a two year Art 'A level course in one year and got a D - not the best grade to get into college but not bad considering I had half the time to do it in.  :)

I was also put off by the amount of people that were interested in graphic design. You never know, one day I might attempt it or incorporate it into a venture of mine.  8)

With Sociology, you could counsel or work at schools and the like, and that appealled to me. A minor in art would probably allow me to learn more about techniques and expose/show my work better, so I could proabbly enter art shows (which I still am not all that fond of doing).

That's true, they are. I was gonna major in Comp Sci, since I seem to enjoy programming a lot, but the CS major requires a lot of courses that are unrelated to programming, and that kinda turned me off, so to speak. So after last semester was over, I thumbed through the catalog and decided on Liberal Studies. I've been in college for seven years, and I just want to complete a degree in something. I will be taking a California history class and a literature class.

I may incorporate it into other things I am ambitious about (film directing and writing novels being two things) and see how it goes.  :)

Yes, there are always other contributing factors like you have just mentioned there but you go about it the right way in respect of freelancing. The degree can say you are capable of doing it but the business sense will show you how to make money (even if it is a little) from it.

We were going to go to New Hampshire for two nights but it turns out that it is going to rain where we were going to go for the next two days, so we are moving it up to Thursday/Friday.  Maybe I'll do some work in the garden, those pesky flowers are popping up around the finely cultivated weeds.

Off to take the kids to school and then exchange and move the washing machines :P

I'm taking (another) year off because the class I need doesn't mesh well with my son's preschool schedule.....he gets out at noon & my class is at 12:15 :(

Isn't that frustrating?  I gave up school, my job and the gym for the kids.  Oh, the sacrifice.

Just cut the grass that hubby has been putting off. I got tired of waiting, so I just did it myself. Now I have a few weeds I need to pull, then that's it for me today. Probably just sit here the rest of the day and relax.   :)

Yeah I work from 10:00 at night to 6:00 in the morning. The pay is better and quite often we get to go home earlier than other shifts at my place of work so it's all pretty good.  :)

I got to a college called Los Medanos College. It's part of our community college system, but it's one of the best around (or so I was told). I like the atmosphere, though. How about you?

Ohh, yeah, Modern History will probably be very cool, especially since it's what we're more familiar with and have lived some of it. Early Civilization was cool, but it's sort of hard to put yourself deep into the Mesapotamian landscape and really understand where they were coming from. It's even hard for me to imagine living in the 1960's - let alone 3,000 years ago..

I work for the British Postal Service (Royal Mail) by sorting out the problem letters (badly written addresses, no addresses etc etc) via data entry. The job is dead boring but it pays well for what I am doing so I am stuck with it for a while.  ;) ;D

Wow - that's very cool! I thought working for the post office may be an interesting idea. I bet you see lots of unusual addresses. I wonder why people bother addressing something if it's written like crap.. lol

I saw a documentary about the post office workers in Brisbane that work at the Dead Letter Office.  It was very very funny and very interesting.

I've just been to the doctors and have put myself on the counselling waiting list. It isn't a long waiting list so I should expect a reply soon.  :)

We're gonna try that trip to New Hampshire, the weather the next couple of days is supposed to be
good.  We are going to Loon Mountain, an appropriate destination fo me I think  ;D
