the problem is how can you compare different jobs.  Some are physically demanding, some are mentally demanding, or a mix of the two.  I might only be pushing a pen but if I make a mistake someone might not get paid or a customer wouldn't get the windows they ordered.  I have deadlines to meet every week when the pressure is on to do the work more quickly, but just as accurately.  Yesterday I didn't have time for a pee from the boss arriving around 10 and being able to go home at 3.  That's how busy it was

I know I spend a lot of time online while at work but I need an outlet. If I screw up people die. So, the Internet is my stress relief and keeps me focused.....otherwise I'd just be sitting there waiting for stuff to happen.

Any excitement anywhere???

come up with a miracle job....  I do not think I am good enough for today's education system (or my nerves are not good enough..).  I am soo stressed from being told how to change, alter, and rewrite lesson plans, and do it supposedly better.  But I have never been told what I do right, so I do not know what to even keep, and I feel like I am chasing my tail constantly.

I can only appreciate that now that I understand the whole concept of work...

That I understand... I just wish I was confident enough to say that I am good enough... But if I was truly good enough, I wouldn't have kids failing then... That's the sign of a good teacher, you care.  Don't lose that.  It's too bad that teachers seem to have to work against the system these days.  Too bad more parents don't care about their children's education...it would definitely make it easier on you.

I am not sure if I truly am... I care, but all the hours that I put in to prepare for 5 different classes a day, I think I have burnt myself out, and school never gives us time to work...  we have 2 meetings a week (either before or after school) required to go to, and teacher inservice is strictly devoted to "learning new ways to teach."  I am not opposed to all this, but I need some time to prepare, grade, and chill as well.  My family is my first priority, and I feel as if I am letting everyone down.

The kids were reading Macbeth but it wasn't Macbeth written by William Shakespeare, it was basically Macbeth For Dummies.  :o :o :o  I couldn't believe that! How can you learn about Shakespeare without actually READING Shakespeare? I don't know if it was the teacher, the school, or the district that decided that. Whoever it was, I was appalled at what they were teaching the kids (or not teaching them). This was before No Child Left.

I also don't believe in standardized testing. It basically tries to make every kid fit in the same box and any teacher knows you can't do that. Some kids are visual learners, some kids are more audio learners. When I was student teaching (in 5th & 6th grades) and the 5th graders had "Biography Day", one kid who had a lot of learning disabilities did his biography on the Wright Brothers. He built a model of their plane out of legos and my jaw hit the floor. I was VERY impressed with it.

Yep, our school right now all of our In-service time is about differentiated instruction and "project-based" learning... so every student can learn their own way the best...  GREAT, I agree (but I am only one teacher, and we also have our own "individuality" and what we do best - so until there are smaller class sizes, more teachers per student, this is very difficult to manage - all the pictures are with classes of 12 students)... AND you want the kids doing projects - AWESOME... But in the end, our school, and us as teachers come down to a fill in the bubble standardized test.  Idiocy.

And we did not even attempt Macbeth till Soph. or Jr. year in school (I remember Romeo and Juliet was Freshman year) and Macbeth was definitely later.  So perhaps the Macbeth for Dummies was intro to Shakespeare at young age.  We did either Taming of the Shrew, at that young (and only parts I believe) and Julius Caeser, with some Much ado About Nothing thrown in there.  I am not quite clear...
