me too,VHS is getting obsolete so within the next few years converting them all to DVD would be good.
I agree, since I can't even watch my VHS tapes on my little TV anymore; the built-in VCR quit working three years ago. Smite to broken-down appliances that you can't repair/replace right away.

Oh, yes, that's another thing. 11 years ago I got a boom box for my birthday that has a radio, tape player, and CD player. However, the CD player quit working properly around late 2004/early 2005. Any disc I put in there kept skipping around from place to place. So instead, I've played them on another stereo in our home; one that's more state-of-the-art.

Dai was in Paris with work. He turned up to the airport gate about 5 minutes after it opened and they told him the flight was closed. Even though the bus hadn't left the gate to go out to the plane. I forget all else that happened. Dai managed to get on the next flight but it was still a pain.

I'm not dressed in a full BDU uniform and helmet and carrying 70+ lbs.; and 4.) there is very little chance that anyone will shoot at me or that I might drive over a bomb in the road today! It's that linear story telling Howard lacks he draws a line but it's so crooked it's very hard to see how the frigging dots connect

Smite to idiot employees who bitch and gripe about the size of their paycheck but spend most of the day in the hall on their phone or when the boss offers extra pay to stay or come in Saturday to help get caught up won't do it. When you are paid piece rate, you don't make money fighting with your girlfriend on the phone all day.

If you stream it from YouTube, you're rendering the video in their Flash container or other browser-based plug-in, which will display whatever YouTube's server wants to send you along with the video. If you grab the underlying .flv, .mp4, .webm, or whatever and play it locally, there's no ad to render.

The idea is you use youtube-dl to download it, and then you can view it using whatever video player you want.
That way, you're not dependent on YouTube continuing to host it. If it was available on YouTube when you downloaded it, you've got your own copy, sitting safely on your own hard drive. Rename it to whatever makes sense to you, and enjoy being able to fast-forward/rewind through it without any network delay. Or, for that matter, any network access.

There are 30-second advertisements that show before the actual clip. If I find a clip with an ad, I'll show you one.

Behind the scenes, YouTube is a way of turning URLs (the important bit being the video ID that shows up in your address bar, like "oRTMcbz4Co8" - what's the matter, afraid to get dirty?) into links to video content.
Depending on whether or not you want high resolution, low resolution, whether you have Flash or not, etc... the YouTube servers give you something different back. Normally your browser takes that content and shovels it to the Flash plug-in (or built-in HTML5 video support) that runs the video, and then deletes the video when you're done watching it. In the meantime, your flash plug-in displays whatever ads it's told to display.
The youtube-dl script has lots of options, but by default, it just bypasses all the middlemen and gets the highest-resolution-possible video that exists, and it grabs it straight the YouTube mothership. It downloads it to your local drive. Then you can play it back like any other video you may happen to have on your hard drive. Bad news is you might have to wait for it to download. Good news is that because it's local, you can seek to any part of the video instantly. No buffering. And as long as you keep good backups, it's yours to keep.)
1) The script is written in a language called Python. You need Python, which doesn't come with Windows.
2) As written, it's a command line thing. So you need to run it in a DOS prompt, a terminal window (OS X, Linux), or whatever.
3) I haven't tried this guy's wrapper, but it's legit. It might solve your problems if you can't get Python installed. (You can, buy I haven't told you how, because I followed the instructions on the Python site, it worked, and I'm lazy, and it's getting late here :)
If you're old enough to remember batch files, setting your path to point to a directory where the batch file existed, etc... yeah, that stuff. What'd ya do, what'd ya see as an error message, and I'll help ya from there.
