someone took his paper (a paper he usually leaves behind for people to read anyway)
someone didn't mop the floor

When my children were young I would ring the bell for the bus to stop but not start getting off the bus until the bus was stationary.  This is because it is difficult tryiong to manage two young children/bags/etc as the bus lurches to a standstill.  I also saw many elderly people doing the same thing.  They didn't want to risk falling over on the bus.

no.  most grocery stores put a selection of plants outside. the idea is to attract customers and get them to think about buying the plants...remember most people don't go to the grocery store for plants so they are buying them on impulse.... it's a way to get them thinking about buying the plant before they even walk in the doors.

I made an ass of myself but good thing is I didn't clock in so I got my paystub and left to get the bus coming home.

easter's not a big shopping holiday Howard.... chocolate, eggs and ham..... once people have those things they are pretty much done

but that's not the manager's fault...they either didn't need you to work (do you usually work alone on sundays?)  

or because it was a holiday....

they may have thought they were doing you a favor....if you know a holiday is coming up and you want to work you should let the boss know you are available to work....


say it just like this Howard....
        (fill in the appropriate holiday) Blank is coming up, I'm available to work if someone else wants the day off.

Trust me-
it will make the boss' job easier
It will make you look good
it will make him think about you when a promotion comes up....

Yes I work alone 10-2 or 2-6 if there was a severe storm coming like rain or snow they'd have two of us in the parking lot.

It depends on what type of job you have... governmet jobs do for sure - in private business its up to the employers. Generally speaking most full time employees get holiday pay but not all do.

In retail, some holidays where the businesses remain open, the employees working can earn time and half if they work that day. But they might not get paid for the holiday if they have the day off.

And in a business where you schedule your employees based on how busy you think it will be- employees are bound to lose time when the employer knows things will be slow. It makes no sense to schedule a cart collector on a day when the store isn't expected to be very busy.

its a bad economy.... I applaud them for actually working for it instead of standing on the corner with a sign waiting for them to hand them some.

They're not supposed to take stuff from the bins; it's called stealing. You have no idea what kind of things those people can do with stuff they take.

once you discard something it you have said you no longer want possession of that item.... I assure you no law enforcement agency would call that stealing. you would not get an officer to take a report on it. It is now trash- if you have discarded something that you don't want used like bills, statements and checks I suggest you shred those items to protect yourself from identity theft.
