Was it a Full Moon that day?

October 13, 2000? I cannot recall.

I could probably check my 2000 wall calendar, since I always save my calendars year after year. Or maybe timeanddate.com might have that information?

I was in a vocational program that day.

I was at home that day, trying to study (it was my third year of college), and the evil Car Dude who lived across the street from us was outside, blasting his car stereo and showing no respect for any of his neighbors. So I couldn't concentrate.

Like I said, thankfully we got out of there a month later.

Because he's self-centered and inconsiderate and doesn't know any better.

Because he's self-centered and inconsiderate and doesn't know any better.

Couldn't've said it better myself. O0 This fool lived in the house across from me in my old neighborhood from 1998 until we moved in 2000.

And it didn't really seem like music (altho it was probably hardcore rap or rock, with loud beats). It was noise, as far as I was concerned.

The folks who lived next door to us from 1996-2000 were also like that; they deliberately boom-boomed their stereos like they didn't care. A few times we even had to report their inane noise to the police. We tried reporting them to the management a few times (this was a mobile home park), but the lazy manager didn't seem to even do anything about it. The poor management is one of the many factors that led the neighborhood to go downhill, mostly during the 1990's.

how about at parties too?

Subject: Re: Miscellaneous

how about at parties too?

That's another thing. Sometimes the neighbors have loud parties and can't seem to keep the noise confined to the privacy of their own home. We've often had to call the cops when that gets out of hand, too.

In our current neighborhood, though, we are on good terms with the next-door neighbors on both sides of us. :) However, the house to the immediate south of us was originally occupied by a young couple that seemed like uptight snobs. They moved out of there in March 2005 and relocated to a fancier, more expensive place, and a friendly couple lives in that house now.

When I was still in high school, a neighbor three houses down was throwing a REALLY wild party and the cops were called to that house.  I don't know exactly what happened, but it did calm down after that.  Thank goodness!

Yeah, usually after a visit from the police, things should calm down. One can only hope.

Sometimes they'd keep the noise going on so late that we couldn't get to sleep until much later. This was especially disturbing to us on days when we had to get up very early the next morning.

Heck, there have been times in my life when I know in the back of my mind that I have to get up early in the morning but can't get to sleep, even if I try to go to bed early.

We have pictures from all my kiddie birthday parties, in photo albums. Mostly we celebrated them at home, but only twice we celebrated them elsewhere. My 7th birthday party was celebrated in the backyard of my grandma's house; it was a large backyard (and my grandma still lives in that house today). My 9th birthday party was celebrated at a roller skating rink; it was my only party to be celebrated at a public place.

If we had a scanner (or if digital cameras had been around in the 1980's, lol), I could show you guys some pictures of them...but that'll have to wait. :-\\

Philip might remember, but he was only 2 then.

I also remember 1989 turning into 1990; I was 9 years old and not quite in the middle of my 4th grade year. I know that I missed the last three days of school before Christmas/winter break (December 13, 14, 15) due to a serious illness and got better shortly thereafter, and I had a great Christmas. All was not quite well with my mom, though; on the 4th of the month she had a roller skating accident and permanently dislocated a bone in her right wrist. So then she had to learn to write left-handed, and then began to have physical therapy on her right hand/arm. Sometime in January 1990 she could use her right hand again...and her handwriting gradually became normal again.

That sounds so painful for your mother!  :(  I love roller skating but that's always been one of my biggest fears...getting seriously injured.  I'm glad your mother recovered from all that.

I actually remember what I did on New Year's Eve 1989...I was listening to Casey Kasem count down the biggest hit songs of the 1980s on the radio.  The top two songs were "Open Arms" by Journey and "Every Breath You Take" by The Police.  I don't think that list was based on the Billboard charts, but it was still fun to listen to songs from throughout the decade.  :)

I might have had a quiet evening at home with my parents. I don't remember too many details. I also know that I didn't stay up all the way till midnight; I didn't start doing that until 1992.

Casey Kasem was always fun to listen to. I listened to his radio countdown shows a lot, especially during the mid-1990's. I wish I'd known about him sooner; I bet it would've been fun to listen to him count down those songs at the end of the 80's. Those two (which are both good songs, btw) were probably big hits on the 'Adult Contemporary' charts, or on stations that specialized in 'Adult Top 40' formats. I think there might be some explanation about them on Wikapedia. Cuz I do remember reading something on there a while back for curiosity's sake. I was always curious as to how the rankings for songs on countdown shows are established.

"Open Arms" by Journey and "Every Breath You Take" by The Police are right up there for me , in the 80s. I have also listened to Casey Kasem quite a bit, can't recall how long, but maybe since the 70s?

What generation would someone born in 1992 be considered from? Y? Z?

I felt kind of old when I went to a Music Choice Channel, 'Retro Rock', and they were playing a song from '92... I'm retro now?

You're never to young to start feeling old, I guess.

I listen to Music Choice all the time, too! That channel 'Retro Rock', specializes in playing 80's and 90's rock music. I guess they consider the music of the 90s to be "retro", as opposed to "modern" :-\\ ???

Heck, some "classic rock" radio stations are already playing 90's music now. I remember when some of it had come out!

When I was your age (in 1995), the "oldies" radio stations basically looked back on the true "oldies" music (1950s through late 60s), and the classic rock stations only went up through the 70's. I didn't know much 70s pop (except for disco), as many radio stations had kinda phased it out by then and were basically playing "80s and 90s". And at that time, the 90s was current...with groups/performers such as Boyz II Men, Madonna, Mariah Carey, Hootie & The Blowfish, Melissa Etheridge, All-4-One, and Green Day, among others. (Some of those acts were still active in the 00's as well.)

I listened to Casey Kasem's countdown shows for many years, from the late 80s through the 90s.  I actually loved the "request and dedication" portions of his radio shows.  I also recall he hosted a TV show version of his countdown shows, called "America's Top 10", which I used to watch throughout the 80s.  :)

I never remember him on television...except for a music video countdown on VH1 at the end of 1997 (which I was able to watch at the time because I was staying in a hotel with my family). For the record, the #1 vid of the year according to that countdown was "One Headlight" by the Wallflowers.

I enjoyed the "long distance dedication" segments of his radio programs too. Those listeners would send Casey some very heartfelt letters, usually about loved ones. On some occasions, the requested song would be dedicated to the performer (usu. because the group or singer had inspired the listener to become a better person or something like that). :)

The Jack-FM affiliate in my area had been a classic rock station prior to becoming Jack. Now it plays a wide variety of stuff, from the rock music of the 60s all the way to the modern rock/pop of the 00s, with a major emphasis on music from the 80's. I like a wide musical variety; if I had my own station, my playlist would probably be so extensive that you could never hear the same record more than once in the same week!

It was hosted by Nia Peeples and even showed performances from the BBC version of the programme. The show was presented on late Friday nights as part of CBS Late Night, and lasted almost a year.

Brenda Song (born March 27, 1988) is an American actress, singer, and model born to Thai and Hmong parents. Song started in show business as a child fashion model. After many commercials and television roles in the late 1990s, Song won a Young Artist Award for her work in The Ultimate Christmas Present (2000). She went on to appear in feature films aimed at teenagers, including Like Mike (2002) and College Road Trip (2008).

Song's movies on the Disney Channel include Get a Clue (2002) and Stuck in the Suburbs (2004). In 2005, she was selected for a role in the Emmy Award-nominated Disney series, The Suite Life of Zack & Cody, in which she played hotel heiress London Tipton. Song earned an Asian Excellence Award nomination for her part in the series. Song continues portraying the character in The Suite Life on Deck. The Suite Life series is one of Disney Channel's most successful and top rated series, and Song's character is the channel's longest continuous female character. In 2006, Song was named the "Queen of Disney" by Cosmogirl Magazine due to her contributions on the channel.

Her fame increased after she played the title role in the Disney Channel Original Movie, Wendy Wu: Homecoming Warrior. Song connected emotionally with the lead character struggling to keep her heritage. The film was one of the top rated Disney Channel Original Movies with over 5.7 million viewers on the night of its premiere, and she will reprise her role as Wendy Wu in the film's sequel. TV Guide listed her in its 2008 "13 Hottest Young Stars to Watch". In December 2008, Song was cast as the female lead in the 2010 science fiction feature film, Boogie Town in which she portrays Natalie.

The light-haired kids are Dylan (left) and Cole (right) Sprouse, twin actors who play twin brothers Zack and Cody Martin. On the far right is Debby Ryan, who plays Bailey Picket, a girl who Cody is interested in during the first season. She finally becomes his girlfriend at the end of the first season.

The other two characters are not main characters, but they have made numerous appearances, so they could be considered secondary or "recurring." Ms. Tuttweiler (the teacher) and Woody (the dark-haired kid with glasses, who is a friend of the boys) are the characters' names, but I always forget the names of the respective actors.

Anytime that happens, the tennis courts should be closed, and the match canceled, or postponed to another day. Wet tennis courts can be very slippery and unsafe to play on.

US Open 2009 Tennis Results Stopped by Rain US Open 2009 tennis results are supposed to happen this weekend, but now the tournament might be lucky to finish before Monday. The final US Open 2009 men's quarterfinal match already had to be suspended, and today's forecast doesn't look any better for today's showdowns. As such, the US Open 2009 championship results may have to be pushed back, unless things clear up and unless the US Open schedule can be juggled.

Golf is a different situation. It's usually played on a grassy field. But then there's the issue of divots, and muddiness... but at least it's not quite as easy to slip and fall. Tennis courts are usually hard surfaces (at least the ones I've been on).
