The 'average member' here has posted around 1800 posts.  I believe on a GOOD day, we might add 1800 -2000 posts (is that right Phil ?). So ... if we get just one new member overnight, we end up having just about compensated for their arrival .... i.e. in a sense .... they are 'dead weight' for the purposes of this statistic (even though we DO want them on board).

Even if you've got the likes of a ninny, or dare I say a Philip Eno  :o  (one Philip Eno, there's only one Philip Eno, one Philip Eno ... there's only one Philip Eno !  ;D ).


Well, it will still take a week or two before they start to become an asset, P.R. wise. In reality, averages are not the truest reflection. The 'median' would be a better measure.

I'm rusty on maths (very) but here's the basic idea. Let's say a board has only ten members. Represent each member by alphabet letter.

A's post are 1  B's  are 1  C  has 2    D has 2    E has 3    F has 5    G has 7  H has 8    I has 11    J has 60

Add them all up ... ... you get 100. So, 100 posts, divided by 10 members ... you could say the 'average' member makes 10 posts ! However, look again.  You will see that 9 of the ten members have made less than 10 posts. 'J' ... being a freak (comparable to Mr. Eno ?). If J deleted their account, and their posts disappeared too, the new 'average' would be 40 divided by 9 members ..  approx 4.5 posts per person ... and that LOOKS a bit more 'typical', doesn't it ?

The more typical (representative)  number is usually calculated by taking the 'median' in statistics ....ie. line the numbers up ..

1, 1, 2,2, 3, 5, 7, 8, 11, 60  ...... then look for the 'central number'. You would take that as the typical poster. However since we have an even number  ....  1, 1, 2,2, 3, 5, 7, 8, 11, 60  .... we add the two central numbers 3 and 5 together (=8) divide by 2 to get their average .... = 4 .... and THAT becomes our typical posters likely output.

So, you can sense that a super freak like Philip, could lift ('skew')  the 'average' considerably.

As for finding our median here ... well, I have JUST done that within the last minute or so.  You can go to the home page, and sort the 1026 members (current) by post .... then jump through the various pages. On page 18 (remember ... we're looking for the central member(s) .... so 1026 divided by 2 .... the 513 member (approx) ... will deliver the more TYPICAL 'member's' post ........ that person is 'GameDude2008' who has an 'awesome' postcount of 32  ??? :o  ::) :P


Well it doesn't matter to much if we go one or two either side of the 513th member, since all the figures in that region are approx the same !


So ..... it IS no wonder that Phil and the REGULAR 'perhaps' 100  ::)  or so members have a lot of compensating to do ... to lift the figure !  :P

You don't seem to have cottoned on Belle. Since our 'post ratio' is currently of the order of 1783 ..... we have to post that many ( or thereabouts) just to compensate for the addition of a single member. Now ...

I would say so. One notable account that I think should be purged is Smith'sGirl. Her account hasn't been active since July 2004...so the possibility of her ever returning anytime soon is probably nil. The only reason her account wasn't purged the first time is because it had more than 100 posts. Still, it should be purged now.

We still have a reasonable cushion over #11, which is good for now.

Looking at the current stats, I find us still in 10th position.


An interesting thing I noticed...

The guy in position #4 has probably never made a cull, as they stand with over 26,000 accounts and over 137 million posts...
The guy in position #14 has only 1 user account in existence


Also at the bottom of the list (position #2181, FTR), it says there are negative 29,000 members (-29,000). I'm failing to see how that makes sense.
