I scoured the memberlist not too long ago and found at least 20 accounts that were last active prior to December 2005 (but they all had at least 100 posts to their name, which is why they weren't culled, which I still think was a faulty criterion); someday I intend to inform the moderators of this; if those accounts were purged, that would improve our statistic quite a bit.

I do believe you're right ... in respect of 'Ant' ... having done the culling periodically ... having a sympathetic ear (?). I don't believe 'Davester' has taken over the reigns just yet ... and in any case .... I'm sure the mods have other priorities ... so ... I suggest you just get used to the likelihood of further declines ... on THIS measure.  :(
