I'm fixing a hole where the rain gets in
and stops my mind from wandering
where it will go

That a very pretty and artistic picture of Abbey Road, Philip.

Try not to let the rain get in too much Philip.  ;)

"If the rain comes
they run and hide their heads
They might as well be dead
If the rain comes
If the rain comes"

Did you know that they actually made a video to this song, it is bundled with paperback writer (which is being played without their instruments being plugged in (in the garden)

Since the famous photograph was taken the crossing had been moved about 30 yards along the road by the local council (City of Westmister), but it now is in the correct location, as back in the 60s.

The band Shriekback wrote a song about that, "The Beatle's Zebra Crossing," but that was the early '90s before the city moved it back to its original spot.

The zebra crossing makes an appearance in Michael Moore's "Sicko."  A dope from Seattle was so overjoyed at fulfilling his lifelong dream of seeing Abbey Road that he tried to cartwheel across it and fractured his wrist!
:P

Beatles Zebra Crossing?
Shriekback

This was the holy land when they were more popular than God
Upon this bridge of black and white their sacred naked feet have trod
Seers and angels, they saw what no one saw before
And now with closed eyes they walk from shore to shining shore

But is it still the Beatles' zebra crossing?
Is it still the Beatles' zebra crossing?
Is it still the Beatles' zebra crossing?
Is it still the Beatles' zebra crossing?

And now the faithful come here as pilgrims to a shrine
They walk the stations of the crossing
Their feet are bare their eyes are blind
Friends with cameras click to record the ritual
And back home all around the world the same picture hangs upon their walls

But is it still the Beatles' zebra crossing?
Is it still the Beatles' zebra crossing?
Is it still the Beatles' zebra crossing?
Is it still the Beatles' zebra crossing?

But history moves mysteriously and nothing stays here for too long
They scorch the zebra from the road and paint a new one further on
But it still means what it meant then and it still looks much like it did
The pilgrims take their pictures still, its guilty secrets they stay hid

But is it still the Beatles' zebra crossing?
Is it still the Beatles' zebra crossing?
Is it still the Beatles' zebra crossing?
Is it still the Beatles' zebra crossing?

That used to be a warehouse then
And this was all bombed in the war
And here the last wild boar was slain
And there my father met my ma
This was the place where I was born
And in the sixties this was hip
And right through here the Romans came
And this was where it all began

But is it still the Beatles' zebra crossing?
Is it still the Beatles' zebra crossing?
Is it still the Beatles' zebra crossing?
Is it still the Beatles' zebra crossing?

Beatles zebra crossing
Beatles zebra crossing
The Beatles zebra crossing...

I wonder if the road was so busy with traffic back in the days that the Beatles crossed?  I wonder if even THEY had trouble setting up the photograph due to the traffic...?
From Wikipedia:

"The famous photograph
"At some point, the album was going to be titled Everest, after the brand of cigarettes I used to smoke," recalls Geoff Emerick. The idea included a cover photo in the Himalaya, but by the time the group was to take the photo, they decided to call it Abbey Road and take the photo outside the studio, on 8 August 1969. The cover designer was Apple Records creative Director Kosh. The cover photograph was taken by photographer Iain MacMillan. MacMillan was given only ten minutes around 10 that morning to take the photo. That cover photograph has since become one of the most famous and most imitated album covers in recording history, quite possibly only eclipsed by the likes of The Beatles' Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band and White Album. A second version by Iain MacMillan was used on McCartney's solo album Paul Is Live."

I did happen to catch one crossing, it was early!  Whether it was actually intended to be a Beatles re-enactment or not is to be discerned.  Nevertheless since I was there, I took the picture anyways.  I will share with you two of the fellows that I thought could be you.  lol  Obviously, it wasn't you.  ;)

Whatever it is, it take 4 workers to do it as attached photo will show.  ;D

edit:  If I'd have just waited a moment, I would have figured it out.  It looks like they are repainting the lines.  Hurrah...a brighter Zebra crossing.

I wonder what they are doing to the crossing this morning?  It's 10:30 a.m. on a Sunday.

I watched them.  They only painted the squiggly lines on the sides of the road, never the actual crossing.  :\'(

I did catch a unique photo op at that time, but I will post the pics later.

Watched this fellow ride his motorcycle across the crossing, then park it in the middle, get off, and take a photo of his motorcycle on the crossing.  THEN nearly get flattened by two red busses coming both ways.  Yikes

Then later in the day, saw one person taking a photo of another person on the crossing.  Not nearly as dramatic as the event previous, but i'm sure it was exciting for the person in this picture none-the-less.

Good spot!  I don't really know about him.  I didn't happen to notice him at the time, I was fearful that the bus behind the camera operator would run him over, he came really really close to it.  (I don't think that particular bus driver happens to LIKE tourists much  ;D )

Yesterday I passed by The Studios and did walk across the crossing (around 2:30pm GMT), I just happened to be there by chance. I then had weak batteries in the camera, so I could not take pictures, but I can report my message on the wall is still there, with the space running out for other new messages.

Here is what I wrote:

Hello, I don't know if you are the person to contact or not, but the Abbey Road webcam seems to be frozen on one image.  My friends and I watch the webcam with some frequency and were wondering if there were any news about it being fixed any time soon.

Can you please advise who I should contact about that?

Thank you very much for providing this service, I do so enjoy it.  Perhaps someday I will be able to travel to London (I'm in the United States) to "do the crossing" myself.

If you are so inclined, we have set up a thread on a message board with various "spottings" of tourists re-creating the Beatles crossing, if you are bored and would like to check it out.
