It was always bad in my old neighborhood (especially the last 5 or 6 years we lived there); I think I have shared the stories of my then-neighbors blasting their stereos.

Yes, it is generally much better. We do get noise now and then, but at least it isn't next door to us or directly across from us (like in the old sect). Also the climate is much better out here.

Where I am based I do have neighbours close by, but they do contain themselves.

Our next door neighbors are good people on both sides; we are on very good terms with them. However, the neighbors next to us on the south side have only been living there since March 2005; before then, the house was occupied by a young snooty couple that had an attitude; they moved away to a much more expensive house in the hills, and the family living there now is much more friendly.

Exactly.

Often times I make the occasional typo when I'm trying to type certain words. My mind will be thinking one thing, yet my fingers will go on "automatic pilot" to certain keys. One thing's for sure, my typing speed is much quicker than it was when I first learned how to type.

Of course, a spellchecker would not catch either word, since they are both correct spellings of other words.  However, in MS Word, you may get a green wavy line under one of them.

One of my frequent typos is "sicne" for "since" (which would be auto-corrected by MS Word).

Only down side is, you don't get paid for it.
When unemployed in the UK, the claimant for Jobseekers Allowance is paid to find work, and  produce a regular list for jobsearch.

Not necessarily so, applying yes, but that wait for a reply for the company etc, may still take a while.

It is difficult when there are so many applicants applying for one position.

I experienced several instances of that in the past year or two. This included a job position at the local library which I applied for in February and had to take some testing in March for it. I was one of several hundred applicants for that position, but I ended up not getting in. :-\\

Our very first computer, btw, was not compatible with the internet; it didn't have a lot of RAM on it. We got it in '93 and it became obsolete very quickly. From 1995-2000 we basically used it to type documents for work/school purposes. It also had a scrabble game which I loved to play.

Integrated circuits such as 1K-bit RAMs, calculator chips, and the first microprocessors, that began to be manufactured in moderate quantities in the early 1970s, had under 4000 transistors. True LSI circuits, approaching 10000 transistors, began to be produced around 1974, for computer main memories and second-generation microprocessors.

I need one so I can download some shows and watch them on car trips. Oh, and if you don't mind, check out the funny video I posted in Wrongest Thread Ever, and the song I posted in the 2010 thread.

Yes, I saw your clip in there. Kinda funny. ;)

I can remember one virus originated from the Philippines, and the hacker/creator was caught.

I wouldn't exactly call that a virus, but it was a threat in a sense because there was a chance that computers would not be able to recognize "00" as 2000. And yes, it wasn't so harmful after all.

Yes, but moving the pacman around would probably be a bit tougher, since you'd probably have to do it with the keyboard...which is not as easy as with a joystick. That might give the ghosties the upper hand.

I've had mine almost 20 years. (In fact, next summer it'll be 20 years.) But I haven't played with it in the last 10; I'm pretty sure it still works fine.
