Can't find a thread specifically about Super Mario, but I'm sure he's been discussed on lots of video game threads.

For me Mario are the biggest selling video game.

They had several different video games made... one simply titled 'Super Mario Bros' (which had several stages; I even watched a full playthrough on Youtube not too long ago), a 'Super Mario Land' (for the Nintendo Game Boy, which I have), and there were sequels to the above games. Also a Dr. Mario game, which is more of a puzzle-type game.

Super Mario Kart

Interesting...it was released in the U.S. in September 1992, yet I must not remember it. Probably because I wasn't paying much attention to the video game scene. Plus I didn't have my own video gaming system.

Absolutely!

Pac-Man games were huge back then. I even improved on my playing of Ms Pac-Man in 1999-2000 and again in 2004-05.

Yeah; I think there's a Pacman game in this site's Arcade, but the controls are hard to maneuver. A joystick works the best.

I'd rather stick with the Arcade on this site. I know it's safe and free.

A long time ago (mostly in the early 00's) I went to uproar.com and MSN to play online puzzle games. I've played various versions of Mahjong and Bejeweled.

I haven't played 'em much (or any of our Arcade games) lately, cuz I think the mods have said that they were gonna do some reorganization and other fixing in there. And I don't know if and when that's gonna take place.

It's an idea, I suppose. I'm kinda thinking it might work well in the PPP, but then after a while it would be moved into WotW. That is, if it stays in PPP. I'm thinking that might be a better place for it in one regard since we have "Favorite forum/non-forum quotes of the day" in here, and Youtube clips are like that in a sense. On the other hand, many Youtube clips are pop-culture oriented which is why it might've been started in MTAD in the first place.

True, PPP is for discussing preening tips, how to avoid walruses, and famous penguins throughout history.

Absolutely! That is the one place where we can post whatever songs we listen to (and right at the moment I'm not listening to any)... and some of the individual decade sections have discussions about particular music artists that were mainly popular during specific time frames.

It does get confusing when a pop band/artist has been performing since the 50's Cliff Richard or The Rolling Stones from the 60's and announce a new tour for next year, such as The Rolling Stones have down.

If a band has been ever so popular for that long of a period, their legacy often lives on, even if the performers themselves don't. Some of them have "heyday" periods, like the Stones during the 60's and into the 70's (with a few 80's hits as well, such as "Start Me Up").

Yes, it was some time around then when it was popular. I know that the Mario Brothers made their debut in the late 80's, and sometime around then is when the Game Boy was also released. Next year it'll be 20 years since I first played with a Game Boy. I got hooked on Tetris quickly.

I found it difficult to beat the boss as well, especially on Super Mario Land. I could beat the first one, but I only got as far as the middle sublevel of the second main level.

Even if you did, the mushroom guy (Toad) would just say "Thank you Mario! But the princess is in another castle!".

That's right... he kept saying that at the end of each level....and there were so many of those!

Similarly, after vanquishing the boss on a level of Super Mario Land, Mario would come across what appeared to be the princess...but the "princess" would turn out to be an imposter. The real princess gets rescued at the very end of the game, after defeating the boss of bosses. I've never gotten that far.

I've read some online tips on how to go about going through the levels and defeating the bosses...but I haven't had an opportunity to try any of these tips yet, because I haven't used my Game Boy in ages. I'm pretty sure it's still in good condition, though, because I keep it protected.

Even after the age of the internet began, I still went to the library to check out actual books to do assignments... as well as finding online sources.

As do I. Especially the World Almanac. I have been reading that book since the early 90's and have owned a copy of it every year since 1995.

I have saved every edition from 1996 onward. Actually, I donated the '95 edition to a library, and I donated my 1996 through '98 editions to another reference library.

In the UK Whitaker's Almanack is a well established reference book, I need to see a new edition to see if the info is well presented.

^Oh yes, the "never-ending" staircase.

I'm thinking that the actual staircase itself might actually be slanted in order for it to always go up (clockwise); in fact, if you look at it carefully you'll see that.

Interesting!

Very much so; that's probably the only way it could actually be built!

In drawing it, however (in the 2-D world), it probably would need not look like that.

So the only staircases needed for any of those are external, and consist of only a few steps, needed to get up to the front door.

Bungalow buildings existed at my public schools; some of the newer ones had the ramp feature, as well as the steps.
