Gotcha.
It's just that we have lots of stats to keep track of. Only 32 replies for SOTM Winners...that does seem kinda low, but I guess it only gets updated sporadically or something.

I couldn't do that either, at times. But most of the time I usually had one thing I was working on at a time.
I may be getting another job soon; I applied for one earlier this week and went in yesterday morning to do some testing; now I'm awaiting the results.

without noise and distraction.
An environment like that helped me to study (especially for exams) well during the years I was in college.
When there's ambient noise that I can't do anything about, that makes it difficult. One notable time that happened to me was 10 years ago this month, on a Friday the 13th. A nuisance neighbor was blasting his car stereo that day and it was uncontrollable. Because of that, it was the last time I truly had bad luck on Friday the 13th. But I shall put it behind me, since it was long ago.

Cool.
Recently I have been listening online (and on the radio itself) to a local (Los Angeles-based) radio station, "100.3 The Sound", which has been playing their songs alphabetically by title. Anytime a station does that I find it quite interesting. They play mostly rock-and-roll songs, with a few "deep cuts" here and there. Right now I think they're still in the letter R; an hour ago they played "Respect" by Aretha Franklin.

yeah, sometimes you can anticipate what song might be next.
There are lots of song titles that begin with "S"; they will probably be playing them all day today. Maybe sometime late tonight they might get into the T's, if not early tomorrow morning.

yeah, sometimes you can anticipate what song might be next.
There are lots of song titles that begin with "S"; they will probably be playing them all day today. Maybe sometime late tonight they might get into the T's, if not early tomorrow morning.
I will join in again tonight.

So altogether it took almost eight full days to go through. Over two thousand total songs were played, including some "deep cuts", and other songs which many people probably don't hear on a regular basis.

One other Los Angeles-based radio station, KLOS (which mainly specializes in classic rock), has played their songs alphabetically by title on a few occasions. They have quite a library of songs, and in most cases it has taken them two weeks to play 'em from A to Z; most recently from December 25, 2008 to January 8, 2009.

KRTH (pronounced "K-Earth"), the Los Angeles-based oldies radio station, gets repetitive with their playlist as well, even though they've expanded it into the 80's now. And get this---they recently played a song from the early 90's...."Black Or White" by the late Michael Jackson. I'm sorry, but I just can't think of post-70s music as "oldies"; it just doesn't have the same feel to it.

Makes you wonder where some people at stations get their information.
Sometimes they accidentally announce the wrong performer for a certain song that recently played, or other mishap.

Reminds me of another radio mishap I've seen. One time (actually, several times in 1999/2000) in the entertainment section of the Sunday L.A. Times, I came across an inaccurate listing of a program that was no longer airing on a particular radio station of which I was a regular listener at the time. There used to be a program on this station on Sunday nights called 'Act One' (which aired mainly during 1998 and early 1999), but after it got taken off the air, the newspaper continued to list it in their Radio Guide in the Sunday paper. So in March 2000, I decided to send a letter to the editor of the Sunday entertainment section and explain politely that the program was no longer airing on this station as of mid-1999. I never got a reply back, but they did eventually remove the faulty listing from the paper.

On similar line, but slightly different, I have noticed that the pages of the tv listings in the newspapers must be printed a few days in advance of the main news etc, for if a program was to be changed with a few days notice, it has not been in the print form.

Even recently, it was wrongly report that the recently departed comedian Norman Wisdom had written the words to the war time song "(There'll Be Bluebirds Over) The White Cliffs of Dover". He had not. This produced errors in the obituaries in the press.

Yes, those things are usually done like that. But apparently the L.A. Times' Sunday entertainment section had not been informed of 'Act One' no longer being carried by KYSR-FM after it was dropped. And I for one get impatient about something inaccurate getting listed, since others who are interested may be misled by a faulty listing. But that was a whole decade ago now, and in the past. Just like all the neighborhood nonsense I dealt with before we moved.

Just like all the neighborhood nonsense I dealt with before we moved.
...and I have now given up buying newspapers.

We still get the L.A. Times, even though we live in Ventura County now. We also get the Ventura County Star, which is known to make its share of boo-boo's. But it gives more detailed news about things happening locally to us.

One other note about the entertainment section of the Sunday L.A. Times: During 1999 and 2000, my family and I enjoyed doing the crossword puzzle, which was usually featured on the second-to-last page. It was a large puzzle, and it usually had a theme to it. I was good at figuring out some of the answers, and on occasion I would figure out some of the puns associated with the puzzle's theme.

I used to do The Times Crossword (cryptic) and did manage to finish it, but today I think I would struggle with it.

I usually keep away from stations that specialize in rap crap, and intense heavy rock. Whenever I hear that kind of stuff playing in the background, I often find it hard to concentrate on what I'm doing.

The music has to be right for me, even just now, the oldies music station was playing 70s records of which I feel I have just heard recently (last week?), so I switched it of.

Yeah, lots of "oldies" stations have extended their playlists into the 70's. I personally find it hard to think of songs from that decade as "oldies" because they do not have the same feel as songs from the 1950's and 60's, which I am so accustomed to thinking of as oldies. At least Music Choice's 'Sold Gold Oldies' channel usually only plays songs from those decades.

In a sense, that is true.
What bothers me is when they list the wrong years for some of the songs played. And for most of the older songs, the associated album listed is a compilation album, either various-artists or greatest-hits. They don't often bother to give credit to the actual studio album.

I have thought about a possibility of working for them, but I don't know where they are centered, or if I could work online for them to help them out with some of their information. I have thought about sending a letter or personal note to them addressing the fact that they give the wrong years (which, for many of the more recent songs, pertain to the year that the album came out, which is not always the same as the year that the song charted or was released as a single locally; for example, a 2001 album could spawn tracks that became hits in 2002). I'm sure they'd respond with some sort of explanation. But still...

I like reading books; printed words in text are traditional (for lack of a better term). I even brought a book with me a few weeks ago on the day I had to report for jury duty. Just so I'd have something to do while sitting around the courthouse all day.

Have you kept a record of mistakes the radio station has made?
Oh, the Music Choice Network? Yes.
For example, they listed Sheryl Crow's "All I Wanna Do" as 1993, but that's not at all when it charted. It was a hit in the U.S. during the second half of 1994. Maybe the album was recorded in '93 or something? Still, most people did not know about said song until well into 1994.
Also, I mentioned in a past post about older songs being credited to compilation albums. For example, in the early 1970's Carole King released her "Tapestry" album, which spawned several hits and was popular all around the world, but the tracks from it, when played, are often credited to her greatest hits compilation! I guess maybe they figure some older albums can no longer be found in music stores or something?
It is one thing if an album is out of print, but it is another if it can still be found and not have to resort to finding a compilation (either the greatest hits of one artist, or a various-artists compilation).
But at least they get the titles and artists correct.

There was the original one (which got taken down after roughly 600 posts; an approximate figure), the one that lasted for about 3 1/2 years beginning in June 2006 (which was locked after 15,614 replies), and this one (the continuation, with its 3,754th reply being made right now).
