I have to admit, unlike most other kids, even when I was little, I never at all thought "eww girls" or "they have cooties". ;D

I had a "girlfriend" in Kindergarten.  ;D

We even used to kiss...  :P

I used to think girls were Gross when I was in Elementary School.  There was this real cute girl (can't remember he name) who had a crush on me and would practically throw herself at me.  What a fool was I for ignoring her.  :\'(

Actually his not a small boy...he's actually tall for his age...but he isn't developed yet, and I know cause I had to just take him to the doctor to have him checked out for pain he was having, and I have seen it all...so I know as of last week...nothing has kicked in yet...he hasn't started to get hair on his legs or underarms...and his voice hasn't started to change yet....so the rest of him is still a little kid...which is find by me....some kids are so overly developed at that age, especially girls, cause of eating a high fat diet...it totally kicks your body in to being way more mature before your suppose to be.

I have seen it all because he was in severe pain, and was scared something was wrong with him...we thought he could have a hernia, and men can get what is called a "torsion" where their "stuff" gets twisted" and causes severe pain, it can cut of the blood flow to that area, and you can loose that part of your body if that happens..which is something I never knew, because I don't have any of that stuff...but we had to have him checked to make sure he didn't have swelling there or anything...they say that puberty can cause pain there too...and I told my son that...but he was bawling for days...so I thought I have to take him to a doctor, and there's no way he'd want to go to the doctor without me. He is still like a little kid....he's not developed at all...once that starts there no way I am going in with him, or that he'll let me....but now he's still like a small kid.

A high Fat diet causes your body to produce more hormones...in girls they produce more estrogen, which causes them to start developing alot younger...and that's where you see girls at age 9 getting their periods....that isn't very normal, most girls if they are thin start all that around 14.  But, the diets kids have these days are nothing but fat, so they become developed alot sooner....just look at kids that are over weight and you will see they are way more devloped than a kid of average/normal weight.

Hey, it happens to the best of us. I mean, you were still a kid then, so that's kinda excusable.

If it makes ya feel any better, I "chickened out" when I was a ripe old age 14 -- in an incident that I'm sure I'm gonna remember till the day I die -- when I was outside school, waiting for my mom to pick me up (we lived around 70 miles away at the time, but they permitted me to still go there; long story).

Anyway, this car pulls up to the Stop sign and this girl, a year or two older than me, who's riding with whom I presumed was her mom, yells out the passenger window, "Hey cutie!!!"

I think I managed a couple whimper-ish attempts at saying hi, before they took off. I instantly was screaming at myself, You idiot! How....could....you!? But the fact remains, I'm not very good with reacting or thinking "on my feet" in those kind of situations.

To this day, I'm not sure who it was either, I vaguely recognized her from school, but didn't know her name or anything - we'd never talked one on one. I just hope she realized I wasn't being a jerk or anything of that sort. Anyone who'd known me in school then could've seen that I was a nice outgoing, fun guy, just like I am today.

NOTE: What really s_cks is I don't remember the exact date. So even if I finish my time machine, I don't know exactly when to go back to, to give my younger self a pep talk and some advice. ;D ;)

Oh... that was me  ;D

My science teacher says that you hit puberty only when you're supposed to. If your body does it early, it's a sign of being healthy, because being healthy triggers it faster

Subject: Re: What are you sick of?

Written By: ValleyGirl on 11/26/05 at 6:22 pm

Your health teacher is wrong then...I hate to tell ya...all you have to do is do a search for: high fat diet in children causes early puberty ...and it will bring up study after study of what I just said....because I researched it, and have read so much stuff on it, that I wouldn't say something ever that I wasn't really sure about.  But, for each study people do...someone can come up with another study that counteracts that one...it is the same debate on what is good for you...is wine healthy...is beer ok to drink, what about coffee....the whole diet thing is enough to make people go insane...because nobody every knows for sure what they should be eating, you get one study that says don't eat oils and saturated fats...but now they just changed the food pyramid to incude oil as a food group that you need every day...that was a very shocking thing. They say coffee prevents cancer, and so does red wine...and people have even said that smoking can prevent alzheimer's.....but yet...do you wanna risk lung cancer, and throat cancer, and emphesyma and asthma....just to maybe not get alzheimer's?? So, nobody ever knows what to do ...because each person's biological make up is completely different from the next person's.  So all these studies are totally just that...because each person is unique, and what happened to one person is going to be completely different from someone else. But, I do believe the high fat diet ...starting early development in kids, cause I can see living proof of that at my son's school every day.

Oh, I understand now. I think he probably views it as a "safety net" and we all have that in us to some extent. Hey, I'm double his current age, and I couldn't imagine -- at least right now -- not living at home with my parents. So I think we all have a certain "attachment" or clutch to our folks in a sense - nothing wrong with that. :)

Plus, like I always say, everyone is different. I'll never criticize anyone else for feeling or thinking a certain way, even if my experiences or opinions aren't the same. It would've embarrased me, but that's just me, LOL.

Anyway, I remember, from that very Sex Ed workbook I mentioned I did in 8th grade - something it mentioned about the age of puberty. It said that it's variable from person to person and all that, but said "none of these changes happen before the age of 9 or after age 15 in normal situations". That makes sense. It just means that puts the median age around 12.

It doesn't happen for everyone all the same. It began, vaguely, with me when I was 11, but I didn't start to get "manly" until close to 14. Apparently my voice changed in, like a month time too, but I never cracked, which is weird! ;)

I did have a little more fat diet that I probably should have, but not terribly so. The only thing as a kid that I overloaded on was soda (as a result, I got permanently sick of it for awhile!). I also ate alot of fast food for a year or so, but this was when I was 13-14, so it didn't affect me in that way.

A high Fat diet causes your body to produce more hormones...in girls they produce more estrogen, which causes them to start developing alot younger...and that's where you see girls at age 9 getting their periods....that isn't very normal, most girls if they are thin start all that around 14.

Oh...that's awful.  He really must be in severe pain.  Did he want you to stay there with him?  I mean, sure he's developing later that other boys his age, but it seems like he would still want more privacy.  I'm not trying to butt my nose in or anything though.

I actually read about two girls who got their periods at age 2.

Subject: Re: What are you sick of?

Written By: ValleyGirl on 11/27/05 at 6:16 pm

I doubt those girls got their period...there was probably something medically wrong with them.

My son turned out to be totally fine, it was something totally simple that caused the pain.  When your in severe pain....or ever hospitalized...you don't care who sees what as long as they fix what is wrong... just ask any woman who has ever gone through child birth ...you loose all sense of being embarrassed....you just do what ya got to do in a medical situation. Everyone who is there with you is just doing their job. Plus, my son isn't embarrassed yet about stuff, because to him that part of his body is like an arm or a foot, he doesn't know there is some "major" purpose for that...so he doesn't have a clue about anything related to that area being embarrassing. I also think it has alot to do with the person too...me personally I would have died too, than to show my parents any part of my body even at a young age...but my kid is a goof ball he could give a hoot about stuff like that, and that's just him.

Whew! I was totally in the dark about this until maybe 10 minutes ago.

Basically, I could care less if someone else likes the 80's, or any decade/whatever. In fact, that's why there's separate sections for each decade.

My philosophy -- as cliched as it sounds -- if you don't wanna hear about the 80's, don't go in the 80's section! But, don't belittle those who do.

However, if I've inadvertantly annoyed you by mentioning it in other threads/sections, just feel free to ask me to stop, and I will do my best. Honestly, I never meant to p_iss you off, but I don't see why you're so angry about it. ;)

Well, if you don't know what's going on, why are you debating?

It seems like a very foolish thing to do. It's like arguing whether abortion is legal if you don't even know what an abortion is.

I said I haven't read everything you wrote. I'm not debating with you. I just told you to cool off.  I think I've said that several times now. I see you aren't gone, yet. If ya wanted out of here so bad you would have deleted yourself out. You've got the power. Push the button.

Actually, hunting is beneficial for all concerned.  Yes, it is a money-making scheme for the states involved.  However, before anyone gets a hunting license, they must demonstrate that they know how to properly handle a firearm, thus hunter safety classes.

Also, hunting the animals is important for herd maintainence and improvement.  Hunting allows the older animals to be culled off so that the younger ones will have more food available in the winter and spring.  Most states outlaw the hunting of females and young animals; only the males can be hunted, as they can impregnate several does in a season, thus keeping the species going.  If rangers determine that there are too few game animals (say, deer), then they will either cancel the season, or open up hunting on predators (wolves, coyotes, etc).  While not perfect, it is a method of keeping balance in nature.

Finally, there is no guarentee that a hunter will make a kill.  A hunter can pay all his fees, buy all the equipment and stores needed for a hunt, and still walk away empty-handed.  So why do it?  Some do it to escape from the daily rut of civilized life; some do it to get away from the wife; some do it for forge and strengthen bonds between friends and family members (ie, a new brother-in-law); there are a variety of reasons.

I got no slammin' to do, I'm just curious: Children is a plural... are we really that much of an issue? Your title here makes it seem like a wild pack of teens are running around pissing everyone off.

If so, I see no basis to that. There are a few bad of us, sure.. they are also a few adults I don't much care for. But I don't think the kids are so much like an infestation as the bold line makes it seem.

But then, if you're just refering to the whole Justin issue.. it's all good.

^that thread WAS sorta funny, though. i was all in it not really knowing what was going on but having some yucks nonetheless.

i think part of that was going back to the whole original dilemma, which is, some people wanna be able to be a little goofy and make dumb jokes and take a thread off topic without anyone hopping on them. i guess it's hard to tell the line between that and spamming/flooding the board sometimes. so that's a problem.

Alright, I'm gonna clarify this once and for all, at least for ME:

I was not TRYING to get banned. I was standing up against the fact that I feel it's wrong that any user can nag enough and have action taken, even if there is no real point to the moderation.

I know also that taking such a stand might put me in a position to get banned... so I was prepared for it. I had no desire to actually GET banned, I don't think anyone (except Justin) actually did.

I like when people don't agree on every single thing too, because if they did, that would be totally boring.  I guess I probably am some what of a debater, sometimes I feel like getting my point across to certain people, and sometimes I could care less. But, I do think it makes things so much more fun ...on these boards when people express some sort of opinion on stuff, instead of having 1 word comments on something, I like the people who elaborate alot on something. Now, I can see where some people don't want to read a whole huge long posting about stuff....but that's their option to skip it.

I actually really like on this site that people started posts about what they are doing for the day, or what foods they like, cause I love that kind of stuff....I love seeing what interests other people, and I like people that make me think about stuff, I like being surrounded by people who inspire me to be a better person, in all kinds of different ways.  I have always been a total perfectionist in everything I have ever done, so I like being around people who put an effort in to life, and put thought in to their opinions.

Don't you use your wax? You might have to put it on the area where your braces are rubbing the side of your mouth. Salt water also helps. I know how you feel, I've got a blister in my mouth for over 4 months now. The dentist screwed up when he gave me a root canal, so now I have to go back in and get the tooth removed. Even if you don't have a driver's license, the DMV issues state ID cards, which look almost exactly like a license, except it says " *Insert State Name* Identification Card" (at least our in IL do).

Here in IL, they make you take a written test every so often (I think it's every 12 years or so, but I could be wrong on that) and the written & road test once you reach a certain age.....I think ours are renenwed every 6 years, but if you move, you are supposed to get an updated one with your new address.....I got a new one the last time I had to renew it so I could get a new picture as my old one was HORRIBLE ;D

I once had a California State I.D. which looked EXACTLY like the license except for one small but easily recognized exception. The picture would be on the right side for the I.D., but for driver licenses the picture is always on the left.

I actually have a lic. renewel coming up this June, so I am hoping there will be no test. I think the way it works here is depending on your driving record. My mom hasn't needed to take a test in 25 years!

Is this like a middle ear infection or something more external?

Um, it's right behind my ear drum, which became perferrated in September.  I don't have health insurance, and going to a ear specialist costs between $150 - 250 each visit not including medicine.  I tried going to the emergency room when it became perferrated, but it ended up costing me $400, so it basically just sucks.

I hope to one day get caught up on bills, and things will be easier to manage.  :-[

Hmmm, that sounds pretty bad! There's some cheap insurances you can look up online through E-Insurance. Check it out!

I hope it feels better. I understand how that can feel in a sense. I had a very bad middle ear infection 4 years ago and I still can't hear the same as I did prior to it. My ear always feels clogged.

Thanks I will check it out.  I've been looking already for something cheap, but it's only cheap because the deductible is so high.  :-\\

Yeah, that's exactly how my ear feels right now.  That and like you, I can't really hear out of it very well.

My hubby and I went to a Christmas party tonight that my apartment complex held, and it was a really noisy crowd, I just had to sit there and smile because even sitting across from someone I couldn't make out what they were saying.  I have closed captioning on my t.v. which is the only way I can watch it now.

I've always had ear infections as a child, so that has alot to do with my hearing impairment,  My hubby bought me a hearing aide from radio shack, it is neat, kinda looks like a little AM/FM radio with ear buds.  But I was too self consious to wear it.  I'm so mad at myself.  >:(

I am sick of people being such poops about Christmas. It seems like everyone buys each other gift cards anymore, so all you end up doing is exhanging money...and that is no fun, where is the feeling you get when you give someone a gift that is personal to them, I have been so lucky to have wonderful friends that really have given me some awesome gifts.

A friend of mine this year sent me a framed picture of the poster from the movie Valley girl...and an autograph from Colleen Camp, and framed the whole thing, it was Awesome.

Another friend made me a personalized DVD...and it had a slide show, of some of my favorite celebrities...one is a friend of mine, and she signed this awesome poster that a comic book artist drew of her, and she was on video talking to me, and got the artist to say hi to me...and my friend also got Melody Anderson and Sam Jones- from Flash Gordon talking to me on the DVD, then did a slide show of their work, and then he put pictures of my house decorated for Xmas...and pictures of my family....and put Frank Sinatra singing Have yourself a Merry Little Christmas as back ground music.

I had a friend who had an artist draw a picture of my house........and wrote me a poem and had it framed....
it was awesome.

I have been so lucky....I have been given so many cool things...that when I hear other people saying that they exchanged gift cards...that totally stinks.

I don't like people who write form letters on the computer, that summarize their entire year...and then they send them to everybody they know and people they barely know.
It is totally one sided...you can not ask people personal things about themselves...and I figure people don't talk to half the people they send a card to anyway, so if you can't write them a personal message on the card...then don't waste your time at all. Cause I think they are insulting.

I really like when I get gift cards for restaurants because it's a good excuse to go out to eat.  A couple years ago I got a gift card for Petco which I thought was kind of strange... I mean, I can see why he gave me that because I have two dogs... but that gift should have been made out to my dogs!!  However, the same year my cousin got a petco gift card (from the same person) and she was thrilled with it..I guess it just depends on the person.

I like to give and recieve gift cards.  I won't give a gift card to a person that is easy to buy for, but if I don't know what someone wants, I'd rather get them a gift card over something they may not like.  Besides, I don't like stressing over what so and so wants when I have tons of other things to worry about.

That is true...I should take it back...I actually would rather even get a gift card...if I think about it...then getting something junky that was a waste of money.  I just think it just balances out...so it just seems impersonal.  The thing I hate about them is that alot of  people don't write the amount on them either, so you have to go through the hassle of calling a number to see how much it was for.

I guess I have had easy..because most people I buy for... collect something....and they are easy to buy a gift for because they all have different things they like that are fun to try finding them something new that they didn't even know existed.

I get what you're saying, but I like getting gift cards. A lot of times, I'll want a CD that's not out yet, so I could just save the card until it gets out.

Also, whenever I ask someone what they want for Christmas, they usually say "I don't know, whatever." So what do I get them?! I just decide to buy a gift card to their favorite store or something...

Besides, there's nothing better to get when I don't know what they want.

I have tote in my attic full of every letter and card and gift that ever old boyrfriend ever wrote me, and the notes my high school friends wrote me, it is so fun to read them now.  I am totally sentimental at Christmas...I always think back to past ones, and who was with me and what we did.
