Your lucky you don't live in a city split by a state line.
We live in the city, but have people call us (who live literally within 10 miles) from 3 different area codes ;D
California is like that. It seems like everyone has a different area code. Then I moved to Florida and when asked for my phone number, I start with the area code and they look at me like I'm a moron. ;D

I can't stand Dave Matthews Band - I know I've said this before, but it's still bothering me - lol. They're just so... bland..
I totally agree....I can't stand them either! My husband likes them...so I always rub it in how much I think they suck! LOL! ;)

The morons next door arguing about NOTHING...
Arguing often includes frequently shouting f*** off at each other, and furniture of some description being thrown, then the kid starts crying, the dog starts barking, and finally, after screaming at each other for hours on end, the wifey walks out, slams the door and drives off, usually comes back a couple of days later, when the whole process starts over again ::)

I demand Bobby to not feel depressed anymore
Just thinkin' about
Tomorrow
Clears away the cobwebs,
And the sorrow
Till there's none!
When I'm stuck a day
That's gray,
And lonely,
I just stick out my chin
And grin,
And say,
Oh, the sun'll come out
Tomorrow
So ya gotta hang on
'Til tomorrow
Come what may
Tomorrow!
Tomorrow!

The only two songs of theirs I know are "Bring Me To Life" (which features guest vocals by Paul Mcoy), and "My Immortal" (which has mostly a soft piano sound; could this be the one?).

That's also a song that radio can't seem to get enough of (I mean, to the 574327890 times per hour kind of airplay. At least around a year ago).
It has what I call the "Dave Matthews syndrome" -- everybody seems to love it, it's virtually inescapable, and yet it's extremely bland and unmelodic. ;D
BTW, that said, I do like "Iris" and a few of the rockier songs off their breakthrough Dizzy Up the Girl album in 1999 or so.

But yeah, if this were a video game, I'd be just about ready to shoot the screen! In fact, maybe we should make our own Inthe00's game --- find and shoot as many "nbsp"s in 10 minutes as possible. ;D

As I often say, soon as people start making/replying to some threads, I'll start posting in them. If that don't work, I'll just make 'em myself! ;)
BTW, I tend to do alot of posting in the 80's board, and also a decent amount in the 90's.
As a general note, sometimes the reason I don't do as much posting in here as I could, is because I'll want to do a real well-thought out reply to something, but by the time I'm ready too ('cause at times I'm tired/in a hurry/lazy, etc when I'm on here) it'll sometimes be off the first page or several days old.
I'm a writer of sorts, so I'm kinda anal about how I post (want to get it perfect and all, LOL). I also don't have that much time online per day (long story short, our DSL is messed up, so only one of us can go online at a time!). :(

My son wants a XBOX 360 for Xmas, my mom said she'd buy it for him, they cost $400....that is crazy....cause then you have the face plate, the systems for on line LIVE stuff, the remotes, the games cost $60 each...that is Insane stuff...kids are glued to an item that says it can cause seizures...so to me it is out of control. Kids don't play outside, they don't socialize, they are mean to each other, and that's another thing I am sick of...are mean kids...and girls are worse than boys are. And they are mean for no reason. I am sick of rude people...people that can't even hold the door open for ya, cause they are so rude. I am sick of people who work in a store, but when you ask for help with something...they have no idea what they are doing or where stuff is, and act like your a jerk cause you asked them a question...as if they are suppose to actually work there or something.

Yeah. The newest system I personally own is the Super NES, if that's any consolation, LOL. ;)
I've played some of the modern systems over the past several years, at friends' houses, etc. but don't have enough of an interest to invest in them myself. I do try to at least learn about some of them since I still work at Blockbuster (don't wanna sound clueless when people say, "Dude, is this a good game?" but I can't fathom a knowledge where I don't have any either).
Now, I admit I grew up on video games quite a bit. The early arcade ones like Pac Man. My dad and I played Nintendo together quite a bit back in the 80's (good memories!). He got me into it, in fact. 8)
But it wasn't like that was the only thing I did either. When I was a kid, I tended to prefer the company of adults, or "entertainment", but I still had exposure to other people/kids/activities.
I hate to come across like "my childhood was more innocent than today", but I truly think the games then weren't as bad as some out there now. Overall, I think as long as kids are taught right from wrong in the world, things like videogames won't effect them for the worse. Kids are smart, they just need to be guided.
However, that said, I think there's many more games, TV shows and music that you'd HAVE to teach them about now, if that makes sense. Back then, it was much more "cartoony" violence, and TV shows like Full House -- no matter what happened during the show -- always had a life lesson at the end, or something about values. Today, that would be deemed too "cheesy", which is kinda sad.
P.S. As far as the cost is concerned, I'd wait another year or two, it's bound to go way down - especially when the "next big thing" comes out. ;)

Falling of a log in Frogger or boucing around on triangles in Qbert or eatting dots in Pac-Man, or jumping barrels in Donkey Kong....to now you have games where people are car jacked, beat up, you rob people, there's hookers on the corners, stuff like that has no sense being marketed as a "game"...because isn't a game suppose to be fun?? How do people take pleasure in stuff like that?
I think it absolutely has a direct link to why the whole world is so rude ....people do use the media to copy the behavior they see off tv, in music, and with the role model choices kids have these days it isn't a wonder they act the way they do...all the sports heros have been arrested for drugs or sexual harrassment, even rape....the women are total sleaze bags that step out of a car with their boob hanging out, and they don't even care that anybody saw it-and they want people to see it-I mean come on they paid big bucks for those things, ya gotta let everyone look, or they have like a piece of dental floss on to cover themselves...Girls have who...Britney Spears??? The Olsen twins?? Anna Nicole Smith?? Paris Hilton?? That is so scary just to think about, girls have Bratz dolls to play with ...those things give me the creeps...I can't stand their big lips and no nose faces...it is awful, it's no wonder plastic surgery is so insane.
It is so crazy how we have just gone down hill in the past 20 years...not even so much as the fashion sucks, the music sucks, tv sucks, and the movies suck...but people totally suck....they really do, it is so hard to meet decent people who you can trust, who won't slit your throat, who aren't liars, or who aren't insane and on some kind of medicine for depression, everyone is one gigantic ball of disfunction any more. It is really sad....that is what I am so sick of.....is just the way the world has become.

^If you ever run for prez, ya got my vote! ;)
Seriously, I agree 100% with everything you've said. Young people aren't using their imaginations any more, so when some of them become game designers, they have to get ideas from outside sources. When you watch tv, play video games, etc. the brain basically shuts down from lack of stimulation. Motor skills improve and adrenalin rises but very little to do with intelligence is derived from it.
Obesity in kids is out of control probably because they sit around eating hi-carb processed junk and hardly ever go out and play. Jeez, ride a bike.
I asked one ofmy nieces a question once which involved a bit of imagination and she just stared at me. I asked her if she uses her imagination at school and she told me they aren't allowed to. Something is wrong there.
They'll play the older games. I have an Atari 2600, 1st generation NES, Sega Master System, and Sega Genesis. They love to play the Atari and the NES. No way, if I had kids, would I buy the crap they call entertainment these days.

Totally agree. The early games were alot more rounded. It was more cool to be "fun and innocent" I think. Even the "violence" - when it existed - was alot more cartoony and seemed to be more balanced.
In an attempt to play Devil's Advocate though (because I always try and look at everything from both points of view), I think people enjoy "extreme" games like that, not to become violent, but I think it actually can work to relieve anger and stress with some people. Now, it

^that's so sad, that everyone's yelling at cashiers. i have this deli i like to go to and the people there are non-native english speakers so a lot of times the customers have to repeat their orders. i think it's cute and endearing because i've been going there for a long time and all the other regulars just repeat their orders without thinking much about it -- and the people who work there never get it wrong, they just have to have it repeated sometimes -- but this one lady started yelling at them one day, it really bummed me out. so uncalled for!
i think the reasons why people are ruder than they used to be, and are all into this violent stuff, are complicated. i think it's partly because there's no sense of community or collective enterprise anymore, people no longer feel like we're all in it together or that we as a society are going in some particular direction, trying to accomplish something together -- you know, anything, end world hunger or stop wars or put a man on the moon or anything. the values of this society are just, make a buck and get one over on the other guy. and it's very sad.
i also, i was going on in another thread about this george will column in the paper yesterday where he talks about this a bit -- people aren't civil anymore because they're so often on their cell phones or watching dirty movies on their ipods or what have you that even when they're in public, they're not. they're not even aware of the people around them, just in their own little world. george will boils it down to the "welfare state," which struck me as pretty prespammersite because people on welfare can't afford all this stuff! so what the eff? but i think that's part of the problem, george will and everybody else going, hey, forget the other guy. if they're on welfare they should just go get stuffed. so even when he's talking about how uncharitable people are, he's being uncharitable.
i think some of it boils down to that people are now "consumers," not citizens. we all see ourselves subconsciously as customers who are always right and should always have our least whim indulged. i think it's watching all these ads all their lives people start to feel this sense of entitlement, that they should always be indulged and that their needs are the most important thing in the world. because that's what advertising tells people, that's the message of it.

i also, i was going on in another thread about this george will column in the paper yesterday where he talks about this a bit -- people aren't civil anymore because they're so often on their cell phones or watching dirty movies on their ipods or what have you that even when they're in public, they're not. they're not even aware of the people around them, just in their own little world. george will boils it down to the "welfare state," which struck me as pretty prespammersite because people on welfare can't afford all this stuff! so what the eff? but i think that's part of the problem, george will and everybody else going, hey, forget the other guy. if they're on welfare they should just go get stuffed. so even when he's talking about how uncharitable people are, he's being uncharitable.
i think some of it boils down to that people are now "consumers," not citizens. we all see ourselves subconsciously as customers who are always right and should always have our least whim indulged. i think it's watching all these ads all their lives people start to feel this sense of entitlement, that they should always be indulged and that their needs are the most important thing in the world. because that's what advertising tells people, that's the message of it.
Good post - really makes me think.
Now that you mention it, I think this kinda corralates to an article I was reading somewhere about how the average person doesn't care about politics as much as, say back in the 60's.
I think that boils down to the same kind of thing as general friendliess and caring amongst people. Back then, we cared about politics, and ultimately each other, because we "had" to. In other words, our future often depended on it - whether it was Vietnam or a number of other things - but today we don't really "need" it as much, just because life is much easier for us, so we can afford to sit back and live in our own world.
That can make us more concerned for ourself and less about other people.

Tia and Marty- That is EXACTLY what I am talking about. I honestly can not take people and their cell phones...my husband always says...if they are that important they should have stayed at home...I hate being in the grocery store and people blocking the aisles because they are gabbing on the phone in the grocery store with someone and debating on what brand of crackers to buy...I see it every time I am at the store, and I think how did society function without a cell phone?? We have one, but we hardly use it, we only got it incase we break down...and the only reason we did that, is because you can't trust people, that if you break down anyone will help you, or that someone doesn't come along and rob you , it is all so crazy. People are so untrusting. I had my credit card stolen through paypal a few months ago, and someone took $1200 off my account, and went and had a hay day out in California with my card.. my bank gave me back the money...but still I couldn't do ANYTHING about it, my police have no juristiction over California, and you can't even notify the FBI unless it is over $10,000, and I contacted the Long Beach police, and told them I could give them the exact location of the atm machine the people used, and the time and date, and all they would have had to do was go check the survellience camera at the atm for that date, but they wouldn't, and since that happened to me, I probably have gotten the same email like 3 more times, on a bogus Paypal logo and everything, and bogus email address, that totally looks authentic, and people have no guilt in doing that...I could have had a kid with cancer or something horrible, that they could have screwed me all up for days on having money...and they didn't care. They probably went to Hawaii with my money. I get so sick of the kids in school who are so evil but then the teachers are just as mean, and it's like why did they become a teacher for if they are so mean?? And I have had to deal with alot of doctor's lately, over a friend of mine that had cancer...and they don't care to treat the person, all they care about is who's paying the bill, and they want that all lined up before you can even step foot through the door, it is all about money.
Everything is about money...people don't realize how good they have it, if you look at where we all were in history just 100 years ago...nobody had anything, and even the people on welfare, don't have to worry about using an outhouse, and having to milk a cow, or make their own butter...and just having heat was a luxury...and people are so out of touch with the basic neccisities of life, that it is sad.
And people will shoot ya for no reason, and it doesn't matter where...I have a good friend that lives in Tacoma, WA, and I had seen on the news where some crazy gunman went in to a mall to a Sam Goody music place, and was shooting people, she goes there all the time, it scares me to death.
Your just not safe any more. You can't let your kids out of your sight....if you do...your nuts for doing it...because they might not ever come back, and if you say you can't think about that or live like that...then you aren't clued in to the news and how horrible the word is. And that's what I am sick of...other people have mad me have to think about every single thing I do, because there is so much craziness out there...that you can't realx and enjoy life any more, because everyone is on the verge of killing someone.
And I don't remember growing up like that...sure bad things happened all the time, but it wasn't so horrible like you hear mothers drowning their own kids in their car, and brothers killing their parents cause they were molested all their lives, or a husband killing his wife cause she meet someone else...I mean it is crazy, if someone doesn't want you...then let them go, obviously your better off without that person. But, people are so jealous of each other anymore...and worried about who has a nicer SUV...and I like having nice stuff myself...I figure my husband works hard ever day and we pay our bills, and I make personal choices every single day to spend money on my home and my family...I don't drink or smoke, or eat out all the time, so I have had friends who get jealous of my life too...but they could have everything I have...but blow their money on stupid crap...so I decided I don't care...everyone has a choice in life, if you want the life of someone else, then you go do the work it takes that it took them to get it, and you can have it too, but to sit around and moan and groan and complain about everything...that makes me crazy, cause I see so many people who act like that.
I use to do all kinds of volunteer work, even as a teenager...I was a candy striper and worked as a camp counselor, I was in the Big Brothers/Big Sisters assoc., I worked for the SPCA, I worked for the boyscouts when my son was involved in it...but you know you get burned out, because any more when you help people out...you never are appreciated...someone just wants more and more, and is never satisfied with what you give them, and they complain about places that are helping them...as if those place should do 10 times more...and you get sick and tired of all of it.

I am so sick of video game systems...and violent video games, and men who do nothing but play video games.

The cellphone and driving thing...yeah I am pretty much sick of that too, 2 years ago, we were on our way to visit friends in South Carolina, we were 3 miles from their house, and we were stopped on the exit ramp, in traffic, and out of nowhere a Service truck for a major moving company plowed in to the back end of our Jeep Cheerokee Grand Laredo ( we had just bought it 2 days before leaving) and he pushed us across the grass, back out on to the interstate...where we were T-boned by a Chevy Tahoe. Nobody could believe we survived it. Our jeep was completely totalled. My husband had 4 broken ribs...and 4 herniated discs in his back...and the guy who hit us never came over and apologized...or nothing. He was speeding and he had a huge air compressor thing strapped in the back of his truck, so he was heavily weighted down, I really thought we were all dead, and we think the guy was talking on a cell phone and missed the exit, and that's how he hit us, but he never admitted it. My son and I had horrible whiplash, I had a huge bruise on my hip from the seat belt. All the windows exploded on impact, my son had the glass cut his leg, and we had it all in our hair and down our shirts, it was so scary.
We were on the 6PM News that night, our friends we were going to meet, were watching us on the news, cause they had to shut the entire interstate down, there was News helicopters flying all around us. We had to leave our vehicle there and rent a van to get home, and it was horribly scary driving home.
And I see people all the time on the phone driving...I think it is as bad as drunk driving, you are not in control of your vehicle.

GASP! Exactly what I think on each subject.
I just told my dad last night that the Xbox 360 is a ripoff! He was telling me about the unbelievable graphics, and I agree, they are great, but... it's not worth all the money! I'm just glad that I have a cheaper (but not much cheaper) hobby..
I just don't like video games... there's no human interaction at all.. and it takes up too much time.
Plus, video games were my life basically, from ages 5 to 13.. and I was never a big fan of my life.

I am sick of the way people dress little girls too...even teenage girls wearing a thong...I think thongs are the nastiest thing anyway...I wear bikini underwear...if anyone is looking that close at my butt, and says I can see your underwear lines, then they need a life...seriously.. panty lines are really a tragedy...aren't they??
I know all about the eye contact thing. I say hi to everyone, but when they deliberately turn their head, or look away as if you want something from them....it starts to make you feel like you don't care if you say hi either then.
Another thing I absolutely am sick of is people who don't take care of their pets....We have 3 stray cats that showed up here, a mom and 2 babies...my son is allergic to cats, so we can't keep them in the house, plus I have a buisness in my home (we are opening a Bed N breakfast) I can't have cats everywhere...but the shelters are over run, so we have them on our porch- we made them a house and feed them, we got the mom spayed, and are taking the babies here soon , they have all had their shots...and I get 3 more adult cats that come every night to eat, cause nobody takes care of their pets...I have redneck neighbors that let their cats come over here...and they are right near a road....my husband picked one of their cats up off the road over the summer cause it got hit by a car...and this was after their puppy had been chained to a tree all day, with no water...cause it wrapped itself around the tree, and knocked its water dish down the hill, and what do they do...they leave it all day long to bark it's head off, while they are at work, and it was out in 85 degree weather with no water....and I tried to give it a dog chewie, and I couldn't reach it, and they had a no trespassing sign on their property, and their are no ordinances, and even the dog catcher said there was nothing they could do...well I did calll my neighbor and told them they better start taking care of their animals..cause after the dead cat on the road, I had enough of them. But, I am so sick of people who get an animal, and chain it to a tree or throw it out in a dog pen, and leave it...how is that a pet?? What animal deserves a life like that? I'd like to chain the owner to a tree for a week and see how they like it.
I have 0 tolerance for people any more....I use to totally love people, and was a people person, and would talk to anybody. I believe in what comes around goes around....and if your are a nice person ...then nice things will happen to you, and if your not...you'll get yours in the end...but you get back what you give out.
I think we live in a totally over medicated society too...everyone is on some sort of anti depressant...what is there that is so depressing??? I look at shows like Little House on the Prairie, it was one of my favorite shows, I love history...and people had to live through some horrible stuff, just building a house and keeping warm all winter was next to impossible just 100 years ago...but families stuck together....people get divorced today like it is nothing....kids are so screwed up because they are tossed all over the place...in day care...back and forth between parents...they are dumped all the time, and to me...parenting is a choice in life...not everybody is meant to have children...but nobody stops to think about that one either, and that drives me crazy too...is how many bad parents their are out there...who let 8 year old kids stay at home alone and they let them watch Rated R movies...and there are no rules, no boundaries....and kids need that. I am so grateful every day that I grew up when I did, that I had the role models I had, that I lived in such a better environment, but now that I am a parent...I always thought I could recreate my childhood for my child, but it is impossible, because you don't have cooperation from the rest of society, and you can try and make your life the best you can anyway, but you still see all these outside influences coming in to your life every single day that you have no control over.

Yeah, it's pretty much the same with me. I still play them, but I stick with the really "old school" ones I grew up with. The newest system I have is the Super NES (many of my friends think I'm sad, but I don't care, LOL).
When I was about 12 or 13 I just didn't have as much time for them anymore, which was fine with me. I think I'd become burnt out on them from sooo much playing over the previous several years.
Plus, by then (circa 1994) NES was declining in popularity anyway, so I was already beginning to think "Oh, the good old days." ;)

I think I'm the only one above age 5 without a cellphone (yes, even kids have one... :o) and I don't feel as if I'm missing anything worthwhile. If someone wants to contact me, or I want to contact them... hell they/I can wait til I get home!
Although a cellphone is ideal in an emergency (say you're stuck 100miles out in the middle of nowhere and your car breaks down...) thats probably the only reason I'd get 1.

My husband got out of the vehicle, and was screaming and pointing at the guy who hit us, cause my husband saw he was going to hit us before we actually got hit, he could see him coming in the rear view mirror, and he screamed...oh my god, we are going to get hit, and he said hang on, and he pulled up some...there was a little Honda car in front of us with 4 teenage girls in it, cause we were sitting behind them the whole time, and if my husband would not have moved, the truck would have knocked us right in to them, and probably pushed us right over them, and we probably could have killed all of them.

That's another thing I am sick of...is pornography. In the 70's, and even in to the 80's, it was something you'd be embarrassed about if you ever was in anything with it in it as an "actress" you didn't want it to come out down the road, but now..everything revolves around it and everyone watches that stuff, and it is on everything...from these stupid reality shows where everyone is having sex with everyone and anybody, and things like Howard Stern-where people come on there to humiliate themselves to promote their porno website. The whole stripper thing too...it's like women are proud to say that's what they do for a job, as if having a nice body is something fantastic, and hey it's big money. I just think it is really sad, and sending one giant mass mess of a message to children...because you see previews for shows like OC where girls are kissing other girls...and it isn't because they are gay...it is because they are sluts, and they kiss everybody. I can't believe I saw a clip of that show Nip N Tuck, and people were having sex right on regular tv ...and about as graphic and low class as it gets, and with more than one person-I couldn't believe it. I think what happened to romance....and falling in love with someone, and all that stuff being loving and caring...now it is repulsive. I can't stand that every tv show out there talks about sex every 5 seconds...commercials have it all through it...I mean when I saw a piece of gum "stripping" in a commercial...I knew we had hit an all time low. And every other news story is about someone being sexually molested or raped or something else horrible.
Those "dating" shows on MTV...all they do is talk about sex, and these people have never even met, but they are rooting through some strangers underwear drawer...and taking off their clothes and rolling around in their bed....I would be disgusted by a person who did that to my stuff...I sure wouldn't want to date them. I think what is with this way people act dating where they act like with a stranger they can be that forward? Call me old fashioned....but I dated alot during the 80's...it was never ever like dating is now...it scares me to death the way young kids have this sexual maturity about them- cause my son is almosta teenager-...it isn't right. I am so sick of it, and that nobody has the guts to say how disgusting tv is...and music- music is horrible these days...that's all they sing about...is "doing it"...and we never had songs with swear words in them either....and I don't know what people my mom's age (mid 50's) and above think of stuff...I know she hates today's music, she likes the oldies and Doo wap music...this Rap crap that is out now....is awful, it isn't singing, it is swearing and talking about sex, with some crappy music playing in the background...that isn't talent.

Well, kind of. In California we're not used to seeing 80-85 degree temps in November. (Which would translate to about 27-29 celsius)
I understand how being in a warm climate with temps around 25-30 celcius even in November would get rather anonying.
We don't have that problem as our climate is very moderate, so a day above 27C (80F), even is summer is a luxury. And on the other end, a day below 0C (32F) is rare, even is winter.

Marty- Guys who are in to porn...are still LOSERS..... it is degrading, and I think people involved in it should be ashamed because they have no class what so ever.....when it comes down to it....once you have seen one you have pretty much seen them all, yeah they may vary in size-in both men and women, but big deal....if a person is that obsessed with looking at naked bodies...go look in the mirror...they got the same parts. I think it is ridiculous...the internet is what made it explode in to the mess that it has become, because people make so much money at it....and that is again what it all comes down to.
I hate Rap like Eminem....he shouldn't even be allowed on the radio...when you scream lyrics about chopping off your girlfriend's head and stuffing her in the trunk of your car...well then what the heck is that all about? Just because we have freedom of speech...doesn't mean you should say just anything you feel like.
Anyway...I am so glad Marty that you haven't gone down the road alot of guys have, because it shows you have morals, and a level of dignity about yourself, and you should be admired for being that way. I always think it takes alot more effort to be good...and have morals, than it does to be bad...and I think so many people are really lazy and don't care enough about themselves to have the guts to stand up for having values...it is like if you do...people knock you for it....and the reason they do it...is because they are jealous because they have no dignity left any more, and deep down feel guilty about it.

Quirk...I agree...what I have discovered about Marty is all good stuff. ;) :)
I'd be divorced too....if someone loves you enough to marry you...it's like why do they need to look at other women naked...it is one thing to see a pretty girl and say ..wow she's pretty...I mean I hate jealousy...I think it is so stupid...if someone is nice looking you can't pretend like you never saw them, you should be stable enough in your relationship to not be worried that because someone your with saw a cute girl, and they are going to dump you to run off with that person...but what gets me...is do men really think those women want them too??? It is funny, cause I have a friend who has meant alot of people in the entertainment industry- I mean real celebrities...but he is friends with women who have their own websites, trying to break in to acting...and he has even been to the Playboy Mansion...the thing is...most of those women are single...and it is because no guy can stomach their personality...they are so self centered and conceited that you can't stand being around them...or they have no brains what so ever...and you can't ever talk to them about anything that is of any value. Plus...does a guy really want a Ho for a girlfriend?? I mean if you are of any quality.... you don't want someone who has been with everyone else on the planet.
It shocks me how many women will take their clothes off for money. They don't care at all. And I have been so burned out on this stuff for so long...I never ever watched that kind of stuff....it always totally repulsed me...and it was the last thing I wanted to think about doing...I had friends in the 80's...that whenever I would go out on a double date with them, and we went to their house to watch movies...they would end up sticking one of those movies in...just to make me freak out, and I would just get up and leave the room. When I hear men talking on websites like this one and other ones, and the way they talk about women, I think...dude- you are never ever going to ever get a girlfriend talking like that...what girl is going to want a guy who says that watching pornos is his "hobby".

I used to be into porn a bit a few years ago (around 13-14). Can't remember the last time I looked at a nude magazine or porn site (purposely) And I have to say that all the women featured in these magazines and on these sites look the same, blond hair, blue eyes, big... knockers (obviously fake), perfect skin (obviously fake or photoshopped), pencil-thin, ... etc. Give me a real woman anyday to those ugly anorexic women. :P
In saying that, I do get aroused if I see a woman I like in the nude, but that is relitively normal, especially for a 20 year old male. But I would rather not spend my time staring at websites or magazines. It's just not my thing anymore.
And also some of the stuff featured on those websites are absolutely sick... I won't go into detail, but I'm sure you know what I mean. :-X

I used to be into Porn, but not so much anymore (said the man who has a picture of Playboy Playmate Victoria Silvstedt in his avatar) LOL (She's not really Porn though -- more of a model. She had a hit song in 2000 and has also acted in a few movies which I enjoyed)
Truthfully, I do own a bunch of Playboy Video Playmate VHS tapes, but only because I saw them at a Flea Market -- 24 of them, each only 50 cents a piece.

He never is on the internet anyway....and he's an only child...so he has been pretty sheltered. He knows he has a "talk" coming, and he knows the general topic that it involves..."reproduction"....but he doesn't have any desire to know anything yet. He's still a kid....you should be a kid for as long as possible...and at 13 that is way to young to be looking at stuff like that...who knows what you think of women now, based on what you were looking at...at such a young age. Where were your parents at??

LOL... It was probably a bit older, but anyway... I was more into the stuff before I turned 18 (the legal age) than after. Maybe it was the novelty or the fact that it was "naughty" to do. Of course the stuff I looked at was just what they call softcore pornography.
who knows what you think of women now, based on what you were looking at...at such a young age. Where were your parents at??
I actually feel that "getting it out of my system" by looking at it at 15 or 16 has made me better now than I would've been if I started at 18. My parents didn't mind so much (they didn't know ::)) Looking back however, I do regret it a little. :-[

My son thinks sex means your gender...wether your a boy or a girl. You can't get through a tv commecial without hearing the word.
But the "act"...now that's a whole nother thing....and actaully sex can be traumatic...when you find out very young...because you too immature to grasp it, and you think...ick that's what my parents did to get me...and it grosses you out. I remember bawling when my friend told me....I thought...how could someone do that....and I called her a liar, and ran home and asked my mom, and my mom's mouth just dropped. My mom is a nurse and she still had a hard time explaining it...infact I have been married for 13 years and with my husband 3 years prior to that, and dated alot before him...but the stuff you see people doing now-gross.... I'll hear people talking about "stuff"...and I have no clue what they mean. I figure I am perfectly happy with my life...I don't feel like I am missing out on anything either, so I don't want to know about certain things myself.

This isn't the easiest subject to broach, but like I always say with various other things, it really does depend on the person.
ValleyGirl, while I do think everyone is different, I sometimes wonder if part of the reason certain kids can be jerks or prone to teasing, violence, etc is overexposure to stuff like this. It's always been around, but it's so much more "in your face" now, in the media. I'm sure your son is a nicer guy than most other 12 year olds. The "me" of 1993/94 probably could've been good friends with him of today. :)
Even though I wasn't raised like that, I can't say it's a bad thing if he's not real knowledgeable on things like that. It's a refreshing change of pace - at least he isn't talking/acting like a gangsta rapper (part of the reason I stayed away from many of my peers when I was his age).
I have to admit, unlike most other kids, even when I was little, I never at all thought "eww girls" or "they have cooties". ;D
As far back as I can remember, I always liked girls, I was just afraid to interact or talk with 'em sometimes (still am!! LOL). I was interested in girls, but I was just interested in a "lighthearted/PG rated/innocent" sense. Today it's largely the same thing. Over the years, my knowledge and views of women, sex or any of that, really hasn't changed too much at all.
When I was growing up, I mostly preferred the company of adults (in fact, I usually hated typical "kid" stuff when I was one - I liked popular music, "real" video games, and when I was bit older, alot of TV) especially conversations where I could ask and learn things about the world.
I'm positive that my intellectual side came from all that.
I think I must've been 6 or 7 when I asked my parents the proverbial "babies" question. I still vividly recall the whole thing, it was kinda comical - I'd asked my mom first, because I've always been a bit more "friends" with her, whereas my dad was sort of more the "entertainer". But anyway, I guess she wanted him to explain it to me, man to man (why do they only call it a "man to man" talk when it's a man and a young boy? LOL).
He explained it to me in a way I could understand. Very casual, but precise and direct too. I was an intelligent kid, so it didn't really shock me. Of course some of it I "got", some I didn't, but overall it was more of an, Oh, okay. I guess that makes sense-sort of thing. Over time, I slowly picked the rest of it up and it registered to me a little more with passing time.
In fact, several years later, when we did our official Sex Ed packets in 8th grade, I recalled that experience in part of an essay.
The question this sheet asked, dealt with the very subject. Basically I related how I was grateful my dad had been honest with me and never came off as intimidating or too authoritive about the subject. His laid back nature actually helped me grasp it better, because it felt more like a typical conversation. But, I also said I thought each case should be dealt with accordingly. What works in one situation might die in the hands of the next, and to always be cautious, depending both on the parents and the kids.
My teacher said he was surprised someone my age could've written such a mature paper. It always surprised me to hear these things. Everything I said seemed totally normal to me (does that mean the "average" person is supposed to be immature?).
Admittedly, I have alot of personality traits that probably don't seem like they'd mix. It's probably surprising that the same then-14 year old who wrote about the influence sex has on our culture and values, was coming from the same guy who high pitch-giggled at the mere mention of body parts.
But yeah, it was the same person. ;)
I also really believe that because I learned these things early on - in essence, having the mindset of an adult mixed with the innocence of childhood, I was able to easily retain that "innocence" on it, much like I started out, into my current age. In other words, because I was always able to look at things the way grownups did, I wasn't suddenly surprised with that whole world once I hit adolescence. It just felt like an updated version of what I'd already been through, if that makes sense.
Despite that I may have known slightly more than average as a kid, I don't think it had negative consequences on me now. To this day I've never seen a porno (I honestly don't know exactly what they're like), am probably the only straight guy I know who isn't obsessed with supermodel-looking girls, and in seventeen years, I'll be eligible to dethrone the 40 year old virgin.
Perhaps the most surprising thing of all is, that's totally fine with me too.

As for Gangsta Rap: I'm of the thought that, by nature, the very same premise that gave it to us will eventually have to become its demise too---trendiness.
While it does seem like the love of ghetto/'hood culture is here to stay, when enough time passes, kids won't want the same kind of style from ten or twenty years before. By 2015 or 2020, I'm hoping the genre gets old enough to be "uncool" in any form.
The 15 year olds of 2015 (born 2000) going into high school, will want something new. I just hope it's better. ;)
I think that's kinda what happened to rock. It was the defining "cool" and "cutting edge" music from the 50's through the 80's. To a lesser, fading extent, maybe the 90's too.
I think it was introduced to the mainstream, partly because "the powers that be" probably felt rock had run its course for a couple generations. Indeed, I'm sure almost every imaginable style of rock & roll has been done already.
Rap is the new "annoy our parents and authority figures" music for "cool" kids/teenagers (and some adults) to listen to. Someday that will grow stale in the public's eyes too. It just may take awhile.

Oh, about that kids/sex thing. I've known some foul mouthed kids. It's disgusting, their parents don't moderate television or anything, so they watch all kind of trashy shows and it shows up in there language and attitude. You can get cursed out by an eight year old, it's so ridiculous.
...and these children are going to grow up to be adults and have their own snotty kids.
By the way, ValleyGirl, I feel sorry for your son, not starting puberty yet at thirteen. That must be really tough for him. My younger brother (twelve) is also a slow bloomer, and some people mistake for eight years old. Your son may have actually hit puberty, just right now he's developing in places you can't see (not trying to be gross). ;)

And let me tell ya....8 year old cursing...I know a few 3 and 4 year olds that are holy terrors...and it is ridiculous.
What I am sick of....are kids who when you talk directly to them... they ignore you, and act like that can't speak, but then you hear them screaming at their parents and dictating orders to them...but they can't say hello to you...I hate that.
