Ugh. My dad bought a damned Christmas tree.
Geez, how old were you when you stopped liking Christmas?  If it depresses you and you post that on a thread where most everyone is  looking forward to it, then you're gonna catch flack. It can be a tough holiday for people and some may be going thru tough times personally and it can sicken them to see everyone else so full of joy. This Christmas, if you don't allow yourself to enjoy it, at least maybe do something nice for somebody else. You can feel depressed about the season, it's your choice but I don't think it's healthy and it can be contagious, just as joy can be. smile Alex  :)

Well quite a few pages back Cat (and someone else I think) said they'd finished their Christmas shopping.  :o  I haven't even started.  I thought we were going to buy my son some clothes for Christmas but hubby bought him them at the weekend instead  ::)  No idea what the nephew and nieces want or my mum or mother-in-law.  My dad did suggest one or two things thankfully.

Regarding the last few pages.. primarily cold weather.
Now, I've lived in England and France.. where it doesn't get that cold. Yeah sure, the occasional blizzard will roll through and the temperatures will drop in to the low 20's.. sometimes even lower, but nothing major.

Then.. I've lived in the South. Winter was fairly pathetic, 15 degrees was about as low as it got and apart from a couple of big snow storms, nothing major. I've lived in the North. Winter was brutal, but beautiful.

I work outside all year round and as such am more exposed to the elements than most people.

Now.. through all this, I've learnt one very important thing. In the winter.. you gotta do one thing and all of sudden things are fine. BUY A COAT! Ugh, it's not hard to work it out. Get a big, thick coat and shuttup!

My hatred for it is deep, very deep..it truely is a Southern thing I think, you Northerners just don't get it.


Eeeeehhhhhnnnnntttt...  Try again.  My SIL has lived in Texas her ENTIRE 32 years on this planet and she LOVES to come "up North" for Christmas.  You should've seen her a few years ago when we got about 2'.  My old roommate (also born/bred Texan) was jealous because it snowed here at Christmas.....I could go on and on.  It's not a "southern" thing, it's an "I hate everything" thing.

Maybe a Christmas gift will help cheer up Dude ...

My Christmas shopping is almost complete. I would list the items here but with my son on the boards that probably wouldn't be a good thing. ;)
So last night the cold front moved in. I thought that it got cold over a 20 minute span, but according to the weather report, it was actually less than a 5 minute span! :o

It is supposed to stay in the 30's all day and I LOVE IT!
Personally, I am not a fan of huge amounts of snow for 3+ months, but snow around Christmas is always what I hope for.
Of course, it is a rare occurance in Central Texas - but a girl can dream!

Congratulations to those who have completed their shopping and good luck to those who still have to finish!

I have time. :P  It's hard to shop without money, which will be coming soon.  That and I custom make a lot of my gifts.  ;)

It took me ages, but I eventually got her the full collection of Jules Holland DVD's. He's a jass/blues piano player with his own TV show in the UK and he has some of the biggest stars appear on there. I got about 12 DVD's so she should be entertained for some time.

I finished my son's stuff. I have to get my hubby's gift cards together (he's that easy, I tell ya). I'm making chocolate covered pretzels again this year for others.

I really really really need to go out and finish my shopping, but I'm feeling lazy right now.  I will probably get a few things today after work and then finish up tomorrow since I'm off.  All I need to get is a couple of things for my husband - his biggest gift is going to be a new tattoo - and finish my mother in law.  Nothing major.

Also, I wasn't going to get into last night's scuffle, but I would like to state for the record that I am not a Christian and I freaking love Christmas.  Someone mentioned that it's roots are in pagan culture, which is absolutely true.  I read somewhere that Christ was actually born in April, but the Christians decided to celebrate it in December to coincide with the winter solstice celebration.  I look at Christmas as a way to spend time with my family, and buy gifts for people I love.  I also put up a tree and decorate my house - not because I'm religious, but because it's fun.

I was born in the 'burbs of Chicago and occasionally make it back there for Christmas (seems like I luck out every time too and get a White Christmas  8) ).  The weather doesn't bother me.  I'm not terribly fond of shoveling snow and admittedly am not the best driver in those conditions, but I don't hate the weather.  Heat + humidity?  Bleh.  THAT I don't like.  I'll take the dry heat at 115F over 90F and 90% humidity any day.

And although I'll miss the White Christmas here, I could drive north a couple hours and probably see it.  I'll probably just hang out here in shorts and a T-shirt. :D

Its just in our culture Christmas is protected and god forbid anyone say they don't care for it, or they're called a Scrooge.

Maybe when I move to Florida, I can make my own Christmas. A tropical-themed one. I could get one of those small, artificial palm trees and put lights on it. I could do a big seafood spread for Christmas dinner, maybe listen to Latin christmas tunes and songs like Mala kaliki mauka(sp?), the Hawiian Christmas song.

One thing i truly miss about Christmas is that Julie is 17 now, all grown up, but when she was little, she'd write letters to Santa with her wish list, and before she'd go to bed, she would leave him cookies and milk.  Santa loved those and ate every crumb and even wrote her a letter back each year telling her that because she'd been such a good kid, he had special presents for her.  one year she left Santa some carrots for his reindeer and well, he ate those also, but he let her know that the elves had special food for them and that the cookies were enough.  8)  I miss the joy that a child has for Christmas, but it's a vivid memory that I'll cherish always.

This say's soooooo much about my childhood.

We actually just walked through looking at it all, though we did go into a couple of stores. I was amazed to see so many people there it was completely packed out. They were selling lots of different food but we had dinner waiting at home so resisted all the good smells!
