Panties are cool.  I hear women like to wear them.  They're all the rage in Paris now.

Oh? I've yet to hear of these so-called "Paaaan-ties". I should try some!

Oh, Alex, look at this... I'm SMELLIN' THE NEW PANT-AYS!!

Ok, I'm done =)

There aren't very many words to it anyways.

"Feliz Navidad" (X3)..."prospero ano y felicidad."

"I wanna wish you a merry christmas" (x3) "from the bottom of my heart." That's all the words.

Yeah, if I don't get them up - it's hard for me to get some holiday feeling. Since moving to CA, it's been hard for me to get "jolly". The constant sun doesn't make me feel Christmasy. I miss how I spent Christmas back in Pennsylvania.

Yes indeedy. Florida weather! I'm looking forward to those afternoon showers they get.

Its much better than all of the alternatives in the United States. If I lived in Hawaii or the Bay Area I'd have to worry about Earthquakes, which you get no warning for or prep time. With a hurricanes you can get the fudge out of there before it makes landfall.

And of course anywhere else in the U.S. besides Hawaii, the Bay Area or Southern Florida and I'd have to deal with winter which I absolutely detest. I can barely even take these Texas winters.

XD We haven't had a big earthquake since '89.

The Bay Area doesn't get that many earthquakes. The last ginormous one was in '89, like Meat said. We get little ones here or there, and they're really nothing, especially since everything is retrofitted to sway with the movement.

And whoever told you there is no winter in the Bay Area is mistaken. Yeah, we don't get snow that much (last year was an exception, but it was light), but it gets cold and rainy and windy as hell. Those storms blow in out of the Pacific and make you freeze your butt off.

You have risks and annoyances everywhere you live. It's a part of life.

The only part of Christmas I like is the decorations. I usually go drive around with my family on Christmas Eve just to look at them. Other than that, it's just an endless parade of commercials, incessant, in-your-face holiday music, and holiday special on TV...and store sales!  ::) Also, I like getting Christmas presents and/or writing letters and cards to people who celebrate Christmas that I know. We almost always go into the city and see my grandfather and his wife on Christmas Day, since they celebrate a "secular Christmas." The city is eerily quiet and I love it. I guess that's another part I love about Christmas: the eerie quiet when you go out. So, I DID find some things I like about it by the end of this post.

There are some parts in California that get super cold, like in the Sierras, parts of the desert (yes, the desert gets cold) and whatever mountain range Mount Shasta is in.  I think those are part of the Cascades but not sure.  It does get cold enough every now and then to put a layer of frost on the grass and houses and stuff, but snow is extremely rare outside of the mountain ranges.

Ironically, it isn't snowing as much as it should here in scenic Indiana.

that's too bad because they smell so nice when fresh. We always get a real tree, usually a Noble Fir, a little bit expensive, but they last and smell good and are gorgeous. We started getting them at Home Depot in the parking lot. They aren't on display, you have to unwrap each one yourself, unwind the string and stand it up and have a look at it but they a little less expensive because of that and last year we picked the first one we looked at & it was "the one".

My Christmas shopping was started and ended today-yup-I am DONE. This was an easy year. We help send (most of) the kids to Puerto Rico and the one we didn't, we will be sending paper. The grandkids were the only ones we had to buy for and that was done today. Now, to get those cards out.  :P  Started writing the letter to go in them but I also have to get some pics to include. That's the easy part. The hard part is addressing the envelopes.  :-\\

Since it is only going to be Carlos and me this year, we probably won't do too much in the way of decorating. I would like to have a tree, though-but not like the one we had last year. I have NEVER in my entire life seen a tree that shed as much as that one. It was unbelievable. I wouldn't mind just having a "Charlie Brown" tree-something small.

I love Christmas in the romantic, traditional sense. I sort of accept the mass commercialization of the holiday and get desensitized by it. Believe it or not 15 years ago not EVERY SINGLE commercial on TV was about Christmas, and the radios would play there usual songs and mix in a little John Lennon Happy Xmas and some other classics.

When I think of Christmas, it's about quaint cottages festively lit up, as well as sprawling Victorian estates completely "decked out", carolers, family gatherings, singing Christmas songs at the school concert, going to church in my comfy holiday sweater. Really I just think back to my carefree childhood and the way we celebrated back then...and the way we still do, only my role in it has changed. Also Christmas dinner (Thanksgiving part 2). My personal take on Christmas is viewed through upper middle class suburban glasses. I can't picture it any other way. I know many families go on vacation to the tropics this time of year (unfathomable to me!) Or just completely disregard the holiday altogether...I don't know it just seems foreign to me. It's almost like if I don't immerse myself in it, I don't feel complete or like I've made the most of it. I think this mindset was handed down to me through my parents.

anyway, here are some beautiful images of what Christmas is to me.

So?  Christmas trees are not, to the best of my knowledge, rooted in religious iconography.  They're a freakin' tree you cover with lights and shiny ornaments.  You can stick a snowflake on it and it will have no religious leanings at all.  I know plenty of non-religious/non-Christians who put up a Christmas tree.

You don't have to be a Christian, it's just a time to celebrate giving, the end of a year and the beginning of a new. I like the whole time period, being with family and stuff, exchanging gifts and just hanging out, watching football, etc. The holidays are great!

The three words that best describe you,
are, and I quote: "Stink. Stank. Stunk."

You're a rotter, Mr. Grinch.
You're the king of sinful sots.
Your heart's a dead tomato splot
With moldy purple spots,
Mr. Grinch.

Your soul is an apalling dump heap overflowing
with the most disgraceful assortment of deplorable
rubbish imaginable,
Mangled up in tangled up knots.

You nauseate me, Mr. Grinch.
With a nauseaus super-naus.
You're a crooked jerky jockey
And you drive a crooked horse.
Mr. Grinch.

You're a three decker saurkraut and toadstool
sandwich
With arsenic sauce.

nice timing Jessica  :)

Balogne! You're gonna tell me why I feel a certain way? I've explained it the best I can, to me the holidays mean winter and relatives, and an annoying interruption of daily life.

So you really believe the only people who can celebrate Christmas are families, little kids and people living in the suburbs?  Absurd.

Yeah, but makes less sense to do so if the point is if one's thinking about Christmas. You don't think about it. So the question didn't pertain to you. But I'll send you some Christmas cheer anyway, rather you like it or not.

Christmas is a holiday for children.  You actually believe that.  Wow.

I guess my family is effed up because we put up a tree and we decorate our house and we go driving around looking at all the light displays and we exchange gifts and we listen to Christmas music and enjoy the holidays.....even though none of us are children anymore.  Wow....my family sucks.

Rain does not equal winter weather, I was obviously talking about cold weather, not rainy weather. Rainy weather doesn't bother me that much. Infact I kinda like it.

As for hurricanes I'd much rather deal with a hurricane over winter or earthquakes. The only other place in the U.S. I'd live is the Bay Area, but with earthquakes you don't have time to prepare. As a natural disaster hurricanes are unique in that you truely have time to prepare and evacuate. Which I don't mind doing in exchange for tropical weather and beaches.

I hope you enjoy roasting in the summer.

I'll take a hot, hot summer over winter weather of any kind, any day. I don't think you understand how badly I can't stand cold weather. Cold weather=complete, miserable sh!t to me. You yankees just don't understand.

And you putting together a bunch of numbers like that is ridiculous, you're exaggerating and you know it. You act like if you live down there your home gets destroyed at least once every hurricane season.

You just don't understand because you're a yankee.

So you've successfully deduced that I was exaggerating.  Cookie for you!

And me not understanding your crap logic has nothing to do with the fact that I'm from the midwest.  It has everything to do with the fact that I've lived in the midwest and now live in the South and 3 months of snow is less of a hassle than 6 months of tropical systems dumping rain and tornadoes over your house.

All y'all are Yankee haters.  All y'all.

Well, not only do you have to replace your home, but you also have to replace everything inside that home...unless you have insurance, but you still gotta pay the deductible AND the premium.  So yeah, it adds up.

But what does it matter, it's not like YOU are paying the rent.

I'm quite willing to take whatever inconvenciences come with living there. Bottom line, I refuse to live somewhere with winter. My hatred for it is deep, very deep..it truely is a Southern thing I think, you Northerners just don't get it.

And I'll most certainly be paying the rent, I'm getting my own place sometime in the next year.

Everything is perspective, Beth. You are a Northerner and grew up with horrible winters, therefore its natural that to you its easier to deal with snow than tropical rains. However I can't stand cold weather SO much, that for me, its easier to deal with tropical storm systems. You cannot imagine how I could prefer tropical rains, which you show through your reaction to what I'm saying to you. Likewise, for me, I cannot imagine how you can prefer snow and winter weather. But you do.

"Southerners" in Texas, Mississippi, Arkansas, Tennessee, Kentucky, the Carolinas, and Georgia have had to deal with winters since before you were even a protocell.  But it's okay to be a pansy, don't fret.

Good luck with paying rent and the renter's insurance.

Oh give me a huge freakin' king sized break.  It is not a "Southern" thing to hate winter.  It's a "you" thing to hate winter.  And growing up in Chicago doesn't mean I had terrible winters.  Winters in Chicago are not blizzards 24-7 from November to March.  I lived through 1 blizzard in the 19 years I lived there.  Winters were cold, and there was snow, but it wasn't life-threatening or crippling.  You just dealt with it.

Hmm, doesn't ol' Chuck have a rule about straight-up insults? I've had him pm me more than once over it, maybe he should pm you.

Yeah, I'll have no problem. I and my roommate will both be making around 2 and half k a month.

Well I don't deal with it, period. And I cannot believe you can't just accept the way I feel about this, grow up.

Yes, you do. I have the right to feel the way I do about holidays and cold weather, you're immature for trying to pick a fight with me about it.

I see.  So it wasn't the least bit immature of you to go off on your anti-Christmas rant in a thread devoted to Christmas?  Two-way street.

No, it wasn't. Where else would I talk about it? I wanted to talk about it, because it was bothering me.

In a thread....about something positive....about something you don't like.....you decide to trash it and whine about how much you don't like it.  That would be like going to into a thread about cheese and saying over and over again, "CHEESE SUCKS!!!111!!!"

The problem is that you seem negative about everything, "my life sucks" "christmas sucks" "snow sucks", etc. Are you EVER positive about anything?

Well I'm sorry but I don't see anything wrong with what I did, it seemed like the obvious place to talk about it. Its as simple as that.

I think I've talked pretty positively about moving to Miami.

But usually, you gotta admit you're a pretty negative person. Negativity is only going to keep you depressed. You were talking about how your life sucks in thread about food, I mean come on.  ::)
