So why does he keep going back to pulling exagerated faces??
I wouldn't know.
In a way it did remind me of Robin Williams another comedian maikng a dark movie in One Hour Photo
Robin Williams is also a brilliant actor-yes, known for being a comedian but can really act. One Hour Photo I have not seen.

Phil I love Xanadu but I don't know if you'll like it.... mostly I like it for the music... and because its so cheesy!
Sorry Cat but I HATED 23... I wanted to gouge out my eyeballs with toothpicks in hopes the film would end sooner... I suppose I could've just turned it off but once I go all in I am compelled to finish...tho I did turn off I now pronounce you Chuck and Larry because the dvd was defective and decided not to have a new sent. .
Erin, I liked the Heartbreak Kid... I know the critics hated it but I found it entertaining
Tia, I loved One Hour Photo too... Robin played it perfectly
Howard, I just saw Juno today too...I LOVED IT!!!!

I hated the Number 23 too..it gave me way too many creeps..and after watching it...I could not stop thinking about that number.
The Heartbreak Kid was ok...kind of raunchy in spots where not really needed...but ok. I didn't like the ending though....it made me view him as a player. ::)

I saw the original way back in the dark ages and thought it sucked. My attitude is that I'm sure the remake probably sucks too-so I have no desire to see it.
As for us, the last movie: Key Largo. Can't go wrong with a classic.

I agree. I know it is impossible to include EVERYTHING that is in the book but I wish they they would have included MORE.
If the film was over 4 hours long it would not hold the attention of the younger folk.

If the film was over 4 hours long it would not hold the attention of the younger folk.
Sorcerer's Stone 152 minutes or 2 hours and 32 minutes
Chamber of Secrets 162 minutes or 2 hours 40 minutes
Prisoner of Azkaban 141 minutes or 2 hours and 20 minutes
Goblet of Fire 157 minutes or 2 hours and 37 minutes
Order of the Phoenix 138 minutes or 2 hours and 18 minutes
maybe the first two didn need to be longer... they stayed pretty true to the books but the Order of Phoenix had so much missing from it. I could have been an hour longer and still been easy enough to sit through.
As for Goblet of Fire and Prisoner of Azkaban I liked them too but 30 minutes added wouldn't diminish the viewing enjoyment of these films.
Phil when you get around to reading the books you'll know what I mean.... there is so much information missing from the films. I think they did the books a bit of a disservice by editing them down so much.

umm, I'm only 2/5 of the way thru it. I paused it to come here and hang out a bit. I like it, but it did start out very slow for me, and it's a total musical, I didn't realize that in every scene they would be singing, but I love Beatles music so that's cool. it's gets better as it goes along and at the point I'm at in the movie, I can say I do like it :)

I was sooooooo dreading it because I thought it was just gonna be another one of those horrid gore films, but it was only rated PG-13 (13 years only with parents) and was rather tame. It was reallllly slow for the first half of the movie but finally picked up in the last 10 minutes.

If you like Peter O'Toole, I recommend "Creator." Mariel Hemingway, Vincent Spano, Virginia Madsen, and David Ogden Stiers are also in it. It is one of my all-time favorite movies (but not too many people have even HEARD of it nevertheless seen it). It is a such a feel good movie and I have seen it I can't tell you how many times and I ALWAYS cry (happy cry-not sad cry) at the end.

Thank you! I'll check it out sometime! :) :)
Be Kind, Rewind
And don't waste your money! 8-P
I remember those "Be Kind, Rewind" stickers that Blockbuster and other video rental outlets used to put on videotapes. From my experience many people ignore it and return the video without rewinding it. ;D

I really liked that movie! I still have it on VHS. :)
I watch No Reservations... I honestly don't know if I liked it...I just know I didn't hate it. It was kind of "eh" it killed time and didn't want the 90 minutes I spent watching it back but I don't know if I need to see it again

The very last movie I saw was "The Hills Have Eyes 2". Not as creepy as the first one, more gory but didn't have the same coldness as the first if you know what I mean, the first one just had that creepy, oh man I'm going to crawl out of my skin thats so gross factor.

Saw it on DVD two weeks ago. Interesting to see how slavery was eventually ceased in England (and therefore many other regions of the world at that time).

It makes sense...after all, they colonised most of the western world (including the USA)...

How much sooner was slavery abolished in th U.S. than England?

The British colonies in North & South America was basically built by African slaves. Slavery in both Britain & the Americas were very much intertwined and it was also the basis of the economy of both. To abolish it meant to find a whole new economy system. However, Britain was first to abolish it.
It is estimated that 361,000 Africans were transported to the North American colonies and another 2.2 million to the Caribbean. Slavery was abolished on 1 August 1834 but only children under the age of six were freed immediately under the terms of the 1833 Emancipation Act. Slaves in the Bahamas and Antigua were also freed at this point. All other former slaves were bound, as apprentices, to their former masters for periods up to a further six years. Laws were passed in the Bahamas and Antigua to abolish the apprenticeship clause, with political and public pressure forcing the other colonies to follow suit on 1 August 1838. For this reason 1838 is often considered to be the date that slavery was abolished in the Caribbean.

The Emancipation Proclamation was issued in 1863 but only freed slaves in the Confederate states. The slave states that remained in the Union still could have slaves. It wasn't until the end of the Civil War in 1865 that slavery was abolished in the U.S.-well, formally. Of course then you had almost a century of Jim Crow and believe it or not, slavery does still exist-even right here in the U.S.
Ok, end of history lesson for today. There will be a quiz on this at the end of the week. Ok, just kidding. ;) :D ;D ;D
