The Big Hit (marky mark and Lou Diamond Phillips....best thing in the movie? Antonio Sabato's ass)
Ghost Rider
Dirty Dancing Havana Nights.... worst stunt casting ever (Patrick Swayze looking like Johnny Castle's father....since the film takes place 5 years before Dirty Dancing...)

I thought Jarhead was overrated. That, and I can't stand Jake Gylen....however the hell you spell it.

Subject: Re: What was the very last movie you saw...

Written By: Tia on 12/23/07 at 5:30 pm

i love jarhead. and i like jake gyllenhaal too, truth be told. although i watched the commentary witht he author and screenwriter and kept wanting them to rail against the 2003 iraq war and they didn't really. i couldn't pin down whether they were anti-war or not, which sorta annoyed me. but i guess you're gonna be an artist, you wanna be sorta mercurial like that.

still, i think it's an amazing movie. often derivative of movies that came before, particularly full metal jacket and apocalypse now, but i think with war movies now maybe that's unavoidable. and it's still pretty magnificent for all that. i think a lot of people got pissed because it was supposed to be a war movie but it actually had virtually no war or action scenes in it, which i can dig. but then again, that's what the first gulf war was all about, sitting around waiting.

i first saw it on a blind date and she hated it whereas i liked it. there wasn't a second date but it wasn't because of that, it was because she was still living with her ex-lover and had only broken up with him because he'd become addicted to wizards of warcraft, or whatever that videogame is called. it seemed like a weird situation.

but i digress.

anyway, i'm watching "speed" again. shoot the hostage!

i agree. although it's hard to beat "welcome to earth!" and "the difference between you and me is, i make this look good!" but to carry the first hour of that movie by his lonesome, that was some acting chops right there. 8) i'm a big will smith fan and i like how he's versatile but still finds a way to work the old comedy gig in every movie (here, when he was doing the shrek-alike thing and when he was imitating bob marley. great! and then that monologue about why marley's vision was so important...it was just... very moving. :\'()

I saw "Eastern Promises" today. Pretty graphic flick, and Viggo Mortensen does a bloody fight scene fully nude. The ending left me thinking I had fallen asleep and missed twenty minutes of the movie or that the words "Insert DVD #2 now" were going to appear across the screen. Good acting from Viggo, but a fairly predictable film with a really lame ending.

read the book twice I would've sworn they were different stories.

Loved that book growing up... no real happy ending there we were supposed to be glad that Jesse found a friend and through her learned to love/appreciate (and care for) his little sis.  I cry each time I read the book and during both film versions.... the original film aired on PBS in the 85 or so I have it on DVD.

You just can't go wrong with Clint Eastwood in the Sixties and Seventies. Spaghetti westerns, Dirty Harry and even amusical (Paint Your Wagon). Of course, that is a male point of view (except for the musical)...

Serendipity.   It was pretty good.   I just kept thinking how stupid Kate Beckingsale's character was in it.  If someone played those games with me, I think I would walk away.    Either way, it entertained me.

Ugh, my parents have been making me watch movies I haven't seen with them.  Most of them chick flicks.  But, I end up liking them anyway.  I had to watch Love Actually 2 times last month.  ::)

Ya see, the back of the DVD was completely misleading. I was under the impression that it was a chick flick about a woman trying to find love. I popped it in, and the entire thing was about animal rights, basically.

It wasn't a bad surprise. Pretty good movie. Not typical.

yeah I was hesitant to see it.. last night was the first time. As someone who is not small its a delicate subject... like I make the jokes all the time but mostly because if I am first then its usually out there and no one else says anything.

I like the way Gweneth played it... she was who she was in the fat suit or out. The character never changes just the shape of the character.
I liked the way he saw defective (for lack of a better word) people as nice looking (I like that it extended to the kids in the hospital and the peace corps volunteers) but the pretty people were seen as ugly... though I guess neighbor was one of those nice good looking girls because her image never changed. or maybe it just didn't work on people he already knew...

NEXT starring Nicolas Cage, Julianne Moore and Jessica Biel

This movie was packed full of action and special effects.  I loved every moment of it! 8)

Last night i stayed up watching Death Proof.  The conversations among the girls in the film were so inane and boring...the chicks were not even hot enough to distract you (insert comment from Tia here).  The Kurt Russel chasing them in the car parts were fun.  Wish there had been more of that.
As far as re-creating a bad 70s type movie goes, it was right on the money and that I appreciated.  Great soundtrack.

I loved that one when it came out. it was perfect for '88.  I don't think i'll like any re-makes.

The recent one (which was based on the play which was based on the movie) is okay. I still like the campiness of Ricki Lake and Divine better, though.

I don't think so, in fact I bet that version wasn't available in the UK where I bought this disc.  The 'Special Features' are Learn to Dirty Dance, Audio Commentary from Creator "Eleanor Bergstein", Filmographies and Trailer.

AMADEUS

This classic from 1984, based on Peter Shaffer's play, starring Tom Hulce and F. Murray Abraham is one of my favorites.  It's historical fiction.  There was never such a jealous plot by Salieri, but it certainly makes a ripping story.

My favorite part is the ending when he is dying and working with Salieri.  You can really see Mozart's musical genious there.

Watched "A Good Life" with Russell Crowe yesterday.  Definitely a different part for him, but I thought it was a good movie.

another marathon...

The Messengers better than I expected
Rob Zombie's Halloween  (dare I say better than John Carpenter's?) and I took a class from Carpenter.
Nanny Diaries...I liked Scarlett Johansen and Laura Linney in it  but the direction could;ve been tighter)
Maid in Manhattan...cuz every once in awhile you need to throw in a bull shhh love story
Two Weeks Notice cuz every bull shhh love story should be followed by a movie starring either Sandra Bullock or Hugh Grant...if you can get both then BONUS!!!  I want to like this movie more though... I blame the director for this... because the characterizations by the actors were spot on but the director lost some of it through mutation and bymaking Sandra's character overly clumsy...
