The Firm.
This is kinda funny, there are two films called The Firm right. The one with Tom Cruise and the one with Gary Oldman. I was watching the one with Gary Oldman but media player denied absolutely that any such film existed and insisted tom cruise was kicking the sh.it out of Yeti.

Just My Luck (cute movie)
I saw this at the theatre a few months back. I enjoyed it, too.
The last movie I saw was "Proof," but I am not done with it yet. It's good. Mostly anything with Anthony Hopkins is good, though :)

I saw that in the TV guide! But it was on really late, and I would have been too tired to watch it even if I had wanted to... Dare I ask what the dumbest movie you've ever seen was?
I watched Motel Hell (1980) on Friday night. It wasn't bad... more campy and macabre than scary. It centred on Farmer Vincent and his sister Ida, who run a motel and capture passers-by to smoke their flesh and serve it to the local residents. I enjoyed the character Ida; the main female protagonist, on the other hand, was clearly chosen for attributes other than her acting ability. ;) One of those kinds of movies. Not bad, memorable, quirky... but not something I'd likely watch again, at least for a while.
I like to get into the Halloween spirit by watching horror movies on TV.

That would be "Freddy Got Fingered" starring Tom Green. No movie that will ever come along will be more stupid than that movie was ...

The 1999 "remake" of The Haunting was one of the dumbest movies I've ever seen. On a normal day, I would rather stick needles into my eyes than sit through 3-hours of such horrendous, overblown kitsch... but I guess on that day I was feeling more masochistic than usual. Anyway, if you want to watch respectable actors like Liam Neeson and Catherine Zeta-Jones make fools of themselves running around an absurd-looking mansion (that might have been designed for a Disney Halloween special, complete with billowing curtains and perhaps starring Michael Jackson) and getting frightened by ugly, poorly-done CGI.... then this movie is for you! ;)
However, I'm going to be watching the original 1963 movie next Friday and I'm really looking forward to it. :)

Thank you. :) I'm usually very good at predicting whether I'll like a movie or not, at least after having read some things about it. I'm quite sure I'll enjoy The Haunting. At least there's no question in my mind that it will be better than the steaming-pile-of-the-same-name from 1999.
My favourite haunted-house movie so far is The Changeling, so it'll be interesting to see how the two compare.
... I just finished watching Hellraiser (1987), by the way. Good '80s horror fun!

I own that film. It's such a good movie, Ice Cube is perfect in his role as tha bad ass. South Central Los Angeles on Crenshaw bl. tough place to grow up. I remember during the Rodney King riots after the verdict on the cops that beat him up, we were on coming back from Disneyland and had to get gas, i took exit and as I did the sign said Crenshaw Bl. and we could see smoke a couple miles away. Needless to say, we got back on freeway.

-Disney's Beauty & The Beast (although I enjoy it more, now that I'm a father)
A couple of eceptions to the "Burnout" Rule:
-Bill & Ted's Bogus Journey
-Ruby (I like true-life political things)
-Fatal Attraction ( I caught the sneak-preview, before the public saw it....oy!)

Last night I saw this really good Korean movie called Tae Guk Gi: The Brotherhood of War. It was about two brothers who were drafted into the Korean War (on the Southern side) and how their relationship changed throughout the course of the war. The battle scenes were so well-done that they reminded me of Saving Private Ryan.

Miracle Mile, a lovely bit of Cold War romance.
To put it in 00s terminology, what if someone sent you an email by mistake, telling you to get the hell outa dodge because WW3 had just started and that the world had an hour to live? Not a wimpy "North Koreans or Muslims blow up one city and we blow 'em off the planet" kind of WW3, but the real thing - Russians versus Americans, 10000 missiles in the air, megatons per bomb, as Carl Sagan put it in the 80s, "A WW2 for every person on the planet."
I live downwind of one of Kim's likely targets. If I'm driving to work when I see the flash, I'll hang a U-turn and be far enough away (even at 5 mph in the ensuing traffic jam, the likes of which we saw during Hurricane Rita and the semi-evacuation of Houston) in the 2-3 hours between the explosion and the commencement of serious fallout, to make it to safety. If I'm at work or at home when I see the flash, I'll shrug, take off my shirt, climb to the nearest rooftop, take a few pictures, record a message for my folks, and get myself a suntan. No point in sheltering in place against the flux from a groundburst that close.

I've watched a few over the weekend...
Dot The I- an indie thriller about a spanish girl who's about to get married and during her bachelorette party, meets a handsome mysterious stranger, played by Gael Garcia' Bernal. The movie takes an odd twist, and was quite well made to say the least.
Prozac Nation- Christina Ricci, Jessica Lange, Michelle Williams, Jason Biggs. Christina portrays Elizabeth Wurtzel, who writes for Rolling Stone Magazine. It's a memoir of her battle with mental illness , her parents and struggles at Harvard. A dark, disturbing movie, but I like these kinds of movies.
A Prairie Home Companion- Garrison Keillor's show, brought to the big screen, filmed right here in my very own St. Paul. One thing of note.. Lindsey Lohan CANNOT SING! It's fairly obvious in this movie. One notable surprise, Meryl Streep and Lily Tomlin actually CAN sing. and do a fine job of it.

I watched
Hard Candy last night- an indie flick about a 30's something guy who meets an underage girl from the internet. It had my jaw on the floor. This movie had twists and turns like you wouldn't believe. It said on the box, "The Fatal Attraction for today's generation". It was good to say the least.
Also watched "Monster House". Pretty scary for a kids movie.

Saw is one of the dumbest movies ever made. A friend of mine begged me to go with her, since she hates seeing scary movies alone, and I ended up leaving halfway through because it was so stupid. I'd rather sit through a back-to-back showing of Showgirls and Glitter.

I had to watch Saw (the first one) a couple times, cuz I kept falling asleep through it. But once I got through it, I liked it. It's not just gory, though it is that. It's Psychological! Same with Saw 2. The psychological terror is what's scarier than the gore. In my opinion, I didn't think they could make it work a third time, but they did. At the end, I was sitting at the edge of my seat again.. white knuckled, praying that the inevitable wasn't going to happen, but it did. The ending was the best part of Saw 3.

I have seen a few movies in the last 4 or 5 days.
Running With Scissors - I give it about a B. The book was better. But it was still a fairly accurate movie.
The Hills Have Eyes- scary, but too much emphasis on the 'nuclear testing' propoganda. I don't need propoganda in my horror flicks.
Love Actually- I loved this movie. the little boy in it was so cute... and who was that guy that Laura Linney was gonna sleep with if it hadn't been her cell phone interrupting?? I think I would have powered the thing off ! :P
House Of Wax- great special effects.. the best one was the spike through Paris Hilton's head ! ;D Just Kidding!!
Friday Night Lights- I thought it was good.. my husband watched it also, he said it was 'B-Rate as hell" he said their were way too many overlooked penalties, and inaccuracies that you would never get away with in High school football. Of course, he never played highschool football in TEXAS! 'they do thangs a lil differntly down there!" ;)

Nacho Libre was cool. I wish we hadn't wasted our free rental on "An American Haunting" though. That movie sucked bald monkey balls, since frickin' Hollywood couldn't get the darned Bell Witch story right. Tools.

i'll check that out.
the regular old haunting (the 99 one) is laughalicious. i've never seen catherine zeta-jones be so unwatchably bad.
although the original 1963 haunting is actually a work of art.

I watched 2 movies yesterday...
"Water" which is an Indian movie (hindi) with English subtitles. It takes place in1938, around the rise of Gandhi.. it's about a little girl who is 8 yrs old and married to an old man and he dies, so she is a widow at that age, and is banished to live with the 'widows' in a life of self denial according to the ancient hindu scriptures. She is a feisty one though and wreaks a lot of havoc.. and forces a few of the women to question their faith and ask WHY?? . It was a moving film, bringing me to tears at one point. The music is hauntingly beautiful. I went to Youtube and looked up a bunch of the songs. (I happen to love arabic and indian music).
Then on a lighter note, I watched The Family Stone.. starring Diane Keaton, Sarah Jessica Parker, Luke Wilson, Rachel McAdams, Craig T. Nelson , Claire Danes, and Dermot Mulroney. It was hilarious.Sarah Jessica Parker portrays this ultra conservative uptight priss, who is dating Dermot Mulroney. They go to his family's house for Christmas, and the family is very liberal and they hate her right away.. and then the fun starts. But it had a tear jerker end also. I liked it though.

The one with Catherine Zeta Jones in it was so....tacky. I have only seen snippets of the older one.
We watched "The DaVinci Code" last night. Not as good as the book, but decent. And they only messed up the adaptation a little bit. Tom Hanks' mullet though....man, that thing has to go.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wFJSpGThtF0&NR
and some clip called "rocky." dag, davey's influence is everywhere.

Watched "The Incredibles" on DVD, but fell asleep about a 1/2 hour into it. I've seen the movie at the theatre, but we mainly got the DVD to watch the extra features. It was a free animated day at our local video store.

I watched the Da Vinci Code. I also watched the bonus disc with all the 'making of ' stuff . The disc I bought came with 2 DVDs plus an additional DVD of the documentary that was on the History Channel. I haven't watched that yet though, cuz it was time for Monday Night Football so had to give up the tv to the hubby.
