I dunno but the chick on the extreme right (no, not Michelle Bachmann, I meant of the photograph) seems to be digging the view.
But now that you mention it, there's a variation on the closeted-Republican scandal we haven't seen yet...

Mel Brooks is a hard one to top, but Tim Minchin comes pretty damn close on the scale of bitter irony:

I know that one less dram of Balvenie tonight,
And i could feed some foreign family for a fortnight,
(But I might just have one more.)
That's what a single malt is for,
Not just for making me grateful that I have no life!
I troll the Internets, and now I've got no strife.

In the early days, Christians often killed dissenters, pagans, those who split from their "true Christianity group" and others. And let's not forget the crusades. When Christians label Islam as a killing religion, they need to look in the mirror first.

The Tea Partiers want to marry Jesus Christ to Ayn Rand, and that's a non-starter. DOA.
Both Christ and Rand would spin fast enough in their respective graves fast enough to power the entire planet, but judging from everyone at the GOP debates (with the sole exception of Huntsman and marginal exception of Paul) the propagandists managed to make it work and still have the solid support of Team Derp.
Obligatory bipartisanship: ...exactly like how Obama manged to out-Clinton the Clintons when using the rhetoric of Marx and Alinsky when it came to getting the votes of the Progressives. I mean, who else were/are they gonna vote for in 2008/2012?

SAUL ALINSKY = EMMANUEL GOLDSTEIN
No, Emmanuel has to be a bipartisan threat, and that'd be Anonymous. Decades before it took upon itself a name, that's why the guy who edited 2600 called himself "Emmanuel Goldstein".
Anon is the perfect Goldstein for the present day - it doesn't even have a name, so (win for Anonymous) they can take credit/blame for anything that happens, and (win for the world's governments) anybody in the wrong place at the wrong time can be linked with them - even if their only "crime" was trying to keep up with developments in the infosec field. I'd like to believe the Feebs are able to figure out who's actually participating in and/or organizing the DDoS attacks and target the black hats accordingly, but that's probably not the way to bet. I just hope they're capable of apologizing profusely to the white hats they accidentally snare. Sorry, Feebs, it's not a crime to be faster to pick up on an APT than you were.
tl;dr: And now, the health care debate!

Yeah, it's got a catchy video, too.
OKHxn7ktPao
Seriously, if you watch no other silly pony video, watch this one.
I was gonna skip over it, but the guy who made it actually included the Pepsi at 1:57, which made it sufficiently lulzy to post. But more to the point, it's largely centered around Season 1, Episode 25 which was the inspiration (although only half the source video) for the parody. Part of the show's appeal is that it's way darker than most non-viewers give it credit for. It's not often you get to see a show deal with paranoid schizophrenia - with full visual and tactile hallucinations - and still get rated TV-Y.

Signs, signs, everywhere signs...
In my defense, the closest I got was being one of the 10%, not the 1%.
In the protestors' defense, 99% of the signs I've seen in random picture feeds have been handwritten rather than having been mass-produced from the front group that uses the International Socialist(tm) and ANSWER(tm) brands, which makes me inclined to believe that the protestors are - regardless of the merits of their grievances - still a grassroots group. And to that extent, good on 'em. Nobody does it say the First Amendment only applies to speech with which I agree.

Well, I'm glad that's milk against tear gas or you'd have ruined pr0n for everyone forever!
From the other side of the fence, Alessio Rastani got a bad rap by accident earlier this week. He looked like a known prankster and was mistakenly tagged as one by part of the blogosphere.
aC19fEqR5bA
So he's for real, but he's also not as big as the blogosphere has made him out to be. He's just an independent trader who has a cut of the profits as he clicks his mouse at his broker's desk. No harm, no foul, and my take is that he's a small enough fish that I think he's not only sincere when he says he wants to help people, he's a small enough fish that he's permitted to go on TV and say as much.
I think he's right (and so does this smart chick, who's smart enough not to go on TV), but I don't know he's right. So I remain confused, and it's still a coin flip as to whether I make it or not.
My making it or not is my problem, not yours - so let's just say it's more fuel for the fire, and people interested in this thread should make up their own minds.

We know that she didn't know that taxes were higher in the Reagan years. Let's see here talk her way out of this one with the repugs.
Michele Bachmann Proposes Tax Hikes for Everyone -- Reagan Style

Michele Bachmann Proposes Tax Hikes for Everyone -- Reagan Style On Thursday morning, presidential candidate Michele Bachmann may have inadvertently made one of the boldest moves of the 2012 GOP primary campaign. Speaking on Fox News, the Minnesota congresswoman stated that she wants to adopt Ronald Reagan's tax plan, a rate structure that is much higher than current tax rates.

Me: I am going to take a ride in to support the Occupy Boston people
Him: What is that?
Me: What? You don't know who the Occupy Wall Street people are?
Him: No
Him: I'm only 26, does that count? Is this something someone my age should know about?
To go on, someone else...
Him: It pisses me off that I go to work everyday, and work hard, for benefits for my family, but the illegals get healthcare and college free for their kids
Me: What are you talking about?
Him: Yeah, they come hear and get everything handed to them and don't have to work
Me: What the hell are you talking about, and where do you get your information!?
Him: The guys were telling me, more than one has said so.
Me: You listen to Hannity and Beck, is that where you get this crap?
Him: No, I don't listen to those guys, I only listen to sports radio.

Doesn't read newpapers, either. I got him to admit that he really didn't know much about what he was talking about, he was just repeating what he had heard from "some of the guys". I gave him my opinion of the situation and why I thought the way I did. He isn't really a bad guy, he admitted that he is really not up on the different opinions and reasons behind them on the issue. So maybe I didn't "take him with me" but I think I did give him something to think about, which is a start.

For the benefit of non-Americans wondering what's up with all the silly numbers: There's a bunch of people in the street talking about "the 99%" vs "the 1%", and depending on who you ask, they're talking about the distribution of income and/or wealth: the top 1% has a disproportionate share of both income and wealth. The countermeme is "the 53%" vs "the 1%", and they're talking abou the fact that 47% of the country pays no (net) income tax. (The counter-countermeme is that the term "income tax" excludes sales taxes, nor - under the letter of the law - the 6ish% for "social security" paid by the employee, and yadda yadda, any debate past this point devolves into R-vs-D partisan noise.)
My opinion is that the 1-vs-99 is a natural outcome of the Pareto Principle, which predates gaming by decades. The original data with respect to SWG is gone, but the principle has been experimentally verified in the economies of MMORPGs. (SWG was not the only MMORPG economy to exhibit this result.)
My take on the 53% is that it's astroturf and/or agitprop on behalf of the Demopublican party, who sees #OWS as a potential threat to the Republicrats. (Or just plain (R) astroturf as a hedge against the possibility that #OWS gets hijacked by the (D) party.)

- Dope, F*bleep*k the Police (2005 studio version).
One of the few examples where a nu-metal cover rivals the original. Does anyone know where the sample at the start of the video comes from? The version in the video is the 2005 studio version from American Apathy Reloaded, but the track dates back to 1999, and the sample was on the original in the 1999 album Felons and Revolutionaries.
Every attempt to google the phrases in the sample brings up the lyrics. I really want to say it's from Pump up the Volume, but it's been 20 years since I saw the movie.
And that's two more down, 8,999,999,811 to go.

Speaking of whom, after having their offices firebombed for merely suggesting that a certain religious figure would be guest-editing their satirical magazine with cartoons depicting you-know-who with the phrase "100 lashes if you don't die of laughter!", and a back cover with that same religious figure wearing a clown's nose and saying "Yes, Islam is compatible with humor"...
I think we can retire the stereotype of the cheese-eating surrender monkeys, because Charlie Hebdo's response within a week of the firebombing was this:

The Jews have been crapped on by so many cultures throughout history that having a sense of humor is the only way they've survived. For example, after the Dutch Cartoon Controversy riots, and Iran's call for an International Holocaust Cartoon Competition, (speaking of which...
https://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/thumb/8/8a/West_Bank_Barrier_cartoon_by_Latuff.png/220px-West_Bank_Barrier_cartoon_by_Latuff.png
...that was actually #2. Links to Abdellah Derkaoui's winning entry, which was along the same lines, have sadly gone down the memory hole. My sympathies in the Israel-vs-Palestinian conflict tend towards the Israelis, but a good cartoon hits the reader regardless of whether he agrees with it or not, and based on the strength of #2, I'd have liked to have seen #1.)
In response to the Iranian contest, two Israelis called "game on" and threw an Anti-Semitic Cartoons Contest. Lulz (but no riots) ensued in both the Israeli and Iranian contests.
On a brighter note, anti-Semites in America are a little less sharp, so there's always the good old,

Well, in that case, it worked! What great advertising!
"Despite Fox News anchor Megyn Kelly's assurance that this harmless vegetable mist is a "food product", I found it wholly unsuitable for eating. It caused an extraordinarily painful burning sensation in the mucous membranes of my upper respiratory tract and the tissue surrounding my eyes, resulting temporary blindness which lasted from 15-30 minutes, inflammation of the skin which lasted from 45 to 60 minutes, and upper body spasms which forced me to bend forward in fits of uncontrollable coughing that made it difficult to breathe or speak for between 3 and 15 minutes. While there are many pleasurable ways to ingest fruits of the genus Capsicum, a nice New Mexico-style green Chile sauce on a stuffed sopaipilla for example, I found this product unsatisfactory."
"I casually used this product to try to disperse a small band of non-violent campers who had locked their arms together. Although initially it seemed to be effective, it took two applications! The worst part is that the next day they multiplied exponentially! Now what? One positive outcome, I did receive a paid vacation for my efforts"
"Whenever I need to breezily inflict discipline on unruly citizens, I know I can trust Defense Technology 56895 MK-9 Stream, 1.3% Red Band/1.3% Blue Band Pepper Spray to get the job done! The power of reason is no match for Defense Technology's superior repression power. When I reach for my can of Defense Technology 56895 MK-9 Stream, 1.3% Red Band/1.3% Blue Band Pepper Spray, I know that even the mighty First Amendment doesn't stand a chance against its many scovil units of civil rights suppression. Probably not. Even though the lunatics have taken over the asylum (1981, Fun Boy Three), people who aren't from North America should be excused for not knowing the pop culture definition of santorum, as coined by US columnist Dan Savage in 2003.
The more you know (1989, NBC).

From what I gather the pipeline isn't on the short term tax extension so there is more time to debate it. I'm sure it is one of the reasons Boehner was pushing so hard.

Newt Gingrich and Rick Perry Fail to Qualify for Virginia Primary Ballot
By SARAH MASLIN NIR
3:09 a.m. | Updated Newt Gingrich will not appear on the Virginia presidential primary ballot, state Republican Party officials announced Saturday, after he failed to submit the required number of valid signatures to qualify.
The announcement was made on the Virginia Republican Party’s Twitter account. On Friday evening, the Republican Party of Virginia made a similar announcement for Governor Rick Perry of Texas.

More proof that the whole thing was just a reality TV show intended to sell books and line up a spot on the pundit circuit after the campaign, and that even Newt didn't expect to be anywhere near as high in the polls at this point in time as he was.
The only thing that could be lulzier would be if RON PAUL!1!!1! wins because the only other candidate on the ballot is Romney.
(Newt, you're not President yet, so if you go to court because you don't like the fact that the VA primary rules don't accept write-in candidates, you can't have the judges arrested when you lose the case.)

That's the point.
http://reason.com/assets/mc/mwelch/2011_12/RonPaul1992newsletter.jpg
I'd like to see Ron Paul do this by way of repudiating his past, but I'm betting that he won't.
It took a lot longer than it should have for Obama to repudiate Rev. Wright. And if Ron Paul had a hope in hell of winning the nomination, it would take a lot longer than it should have to repudiate the paleocon newsletters. Paul has no hope in hell of winning the nomination, let alone the election, and that's why the Party is letting him swing in the breeze. He doesn't know he needs to repudiate the newsletters, and the Party is willing to let him not-repudate them.
Disclaimer: I still think it'd be hilarious to see Paul run against Obama. Newt-vs-Obama would be scarier, because there'd be a chance, however infinitesimal, that Newt "arrest judges who issue rulings I don't like" Gingrich would win. At least Ron Paul's political WTF moments were 20 years ago. Newt's were last week.
Double Disclaimer: Remember, the whole Republican primary is a reality show intended to give each contestant a moment in the sun and some book sales. Romney will win the nomination, and will lose by a respectable 48%/52% popular vote in the general, or 320/220ish (plus or minus 30, way too early to call) in the electoral college after a boring campaign and an utterly predictable election night.

The racist newsletter spoils the plan I thought the GOP might be hatching.
Pay Ron Paul to run as a third party. Make the campaign about closing overseas military bases, legalizing pot, and scrapping the PATRIOT Act. That would take enough left-libertarian votes away from Obama to ensure a Romney victory. It's gonna be Romney regardless of what happens in Iowa next week
Feh, now that nasty newsletter flubbed it up.
Maybe Romney could invite Ben Nelson to be his veep!

One of the great ironies of our time is that a board dedicated to pop culture never bothered to create a SOPA thread, because there was nothing that any of us would want to debate about it. Because we'd all be on the same side. So, like, what's to debate? But I'd be remiss in my duties here if I didn't post at least one snark about it.
http://fixnowblog.com/wp-content/uploads/2011/11/internet-censorship.jpg
Except that the creator of that cartoon isn't snarking. MPAA actually cited a paper that said, in effect, that destroying DNS would work, because it's been tried in Syria, Yemen, and China, and because very few citizens of those repressive regimes have chosen to get their DNS service from servers hosted in free countries, the Great Firewall of America would work here.
I'd also be remiss in my duties to say that for the first time in several years, we might actually win.
It's an election year in America. Your Representative and your Senator certainly don't want to listen to you, they know they probably have to listen to you, but you might be able to convince your representative's staff that it's in their personal interest (in terms of getting re-elected) to listen to you at least for another year or two.
Stave off the inevitable. If you're a US citizen, I'd suggest that you call your Representative's office, call your Senator's office, and express your view on SOPA. If you don't, by the time you cast your vote in the general election, it'll be too late.
