Supreme Court lets stand ban on voting by felons
The Washington Times

The Supreme Court yesterday rejected a challenge to Florida's ban on voting rights for felons, letting stand a 137-year-old law that applies to both inmates and ex-convicts.

The justices offered no comment in deciding not to review the ban, similar versions of which apply in every state, except Maine and Vermont.

In a busy day for the court, the justices also said they will not review a North Carolina case involving the constitutionality of an "In God We Trust" engraving on a government building.

The rejection lets stand a lower court ruling to permit the engraving for "historical" reasons, and comes almost five months after the justices split over the constitutionality of Ten Commandments displays on government property.

which probably means it didnt pass the rule of 4

Bingo.  It takes only four justices to hear a case.  So you figure, the liberals have Ginsburg, Breyer, Souter and Stevens.  But not even that.  This alone tells me that not even the liberals on the court think this law, which in some form or other exists in 48 states, is unconstitutional.  I wish I knew if it was a 6-3, 7-2, 8-1 or a unanimous 9-0 decision not to hear this case.

The article says every state except Vermont and Maine have some version of this law.  So if it's "fascist," what's Massachusetts' excuse?

Probably the same as the one in Georgia

So tell me, why should a convicted felon who has done the crime AND served the time not be considered rehabilitated and welcomed back into full citizenship?

To paraphrase Arlo:

You want to send me to Vietnam to kill men, women and kids, and you want to know if I'm moral enough to serve in the army when my crime was littering?  Sargent, you got one hell of a lot of gaul.

Kid, we don't like yer kind!

Felons should not be allowed to vote because they're not likely to vote for candidates who believe felons should not be allowed to vote.  Extrapolate from there.

No need to extrapolate, and lets not forget the racial dimension, and the thread re Section 5 of the voting rights act.  If we can't stop them from registering, can't use the poll tax, can't use the grandfather clause, we can convict them of felonies.  after all, we have the white to vote.
