As to the last 2 lists, thats why they're called "chickenhawks".  Its always easier to send other people's children to their deaths than to send your own, or face it yourself.

I have to say, though, that I noticed that Bob Dole is missing from the Republican list :-\\

So are many others who served honorably, but had nothing to do with the current quagmire.  George H.W. Bush, Ike, even Tricky Dicky all served.

John Adams: Did not serve
Samuel Adams: DId not serve
John Hancock: Did not serve
Roger Sherman: Did not serve
Benjamin Franklin: Did not serve
Thomas Jefferson: Did not serve

Why didnt they serve in our fight against England?  Because they were the politicians, not the fighters.  They were the ones using their brains to make laws, not to fight wars.

Plus, we cant have every politician be a veteran of the military.  THe liberals would complain about the military-industial complex again then.

What movie was that...oh yeah, Starship Troopers....there anyone who wants the right to vote must have served in the military....now do you want something like Starship Troopers?  I mean, they have giant bugs attacking humans....my lord, we'd all be killed.

Its a joke people

Don't forget John McCain!

Military service shouldn't be a litmus test for office-holding worthiness.  That's not the point of the list Danoota posted.  The list merely illustrates that many politicians and pundits who bigtime war hawks, who link military service to patriotism, who advocate aggressive foreign policy DID NOT serve in the military and themselves.
The list contrasts this with liberals--many of whom are domonized by the Right as peaceniks--did serve
It is by no means exhaustive.

These chickenhawk azzh()les who did not serve have the grace of the Republican Noise Machine, so they're safe.  Those out of favor with the Republican Noise Machine--John Kerry, Tom Daschle, Max Cleland, and even John McCain--get bulldozed no matter how heroically they served!

They only started the war
Why should they go out to fight?
They leave that all to the poor"

and also, most of the Republicans listed arent even involved in the war debate.  What the hell does Jack Kemp have to do with anything?  Or hell, even Ronald Regan?  They just cut and paste the examples that would help them.  I mean, what about all the Democrats that didnt serve?  THere are many of them too.  Just as many as there are republicans that didnt serve.

The only way to make this list fair is to list every person in the country by their political party and then write mark off if they served or not.  It doesnt matter if their dead, or hell even opposed the war (like a few of the Republicans listed there), lets just streamline it by going by their political party.  That should define the  person...not the other way around.
