Subject: "The Power of Nightmares" - new film about Terrorism
Written By: UKVisitor on 04/22/05 at 7:35 pm
This thought provoking documentary film has already been screened in three one hour parts in the UK and I think anyone interested in the whole terrorism issue should look out for it when it gets a cinema release. It questions and ask us to question the motivations behind the whole current War on Terror. I'll say no more... just think its worth watching.

Funny isn't it that here in the UK where free speech isn't enshrined in our cosntitution and our major TV station is government funded the programme got aired adn won countless awards. In the USA not one single network was interested in carrying it. Not surprised at all considering that any questioning of the government is now considered akin to treason :\'(
Well if you can't get hold of illegally maybe people will smuggle it into the USA like they used to smuggle Bibles into Russia under Stalin :)

Well, the fact that it was nominated for or won awards really does not mean that it is any good. Look at films like "Heaven's Gate", "Dune", and "Cleopatra". All stunk, lost money, and were still nominated (or won) oscar awards.

Unlike "The Bee", us television is a commercial enterprise. Unless showing the product will make them money, they will not show it. Now there are exceptions, like PBS and "events", like charity benefits ("USA for Africa", "Farm Aid", etc).
Even "TV Nation" by Roger Moore was given awards, but was a commercial failure on TV. Partially because mainstream "American People" do not care about the opinions of others all that much. Most people do not need a Roger Morre or a RUsh Limbaugh telling them what to think or believe about something.

This is only partly true. Both "bowling foir Colombine" and "Farenheite 9/11" were shown on my satelitle network, presumably at a profit or at least for one. The "liberal" media is cowtowing to the right so as not to be accused of "liberal" bias, so is PBS, which I use to support, when they ran Bill Moyers and other docs. Now, they run pablum. I'm not a baby, and I don't buy it.

"Roger" Moore? He'd be the fat, loudmouthed James Bond in "Goldfinger 9/11"?
