Subject: a marine and gun story
Written By: saver on 01/07/05 at 5:53 pm
Marine Corp's General Reinwald was interviewed
on the radio the other day and you have to read his
reply to the lady who interviewed him concerning
guns and children. Regardless of how you feel about
gun laws you gotta love this!!!! This is one of the best
comeback lines of all time. It is a portion of National
Public Radio (NPR) interview between a female
broadcaster and US Marine Corps General Reinwald
who was about to sponsor a Boy Scout Troop visiting
his military installation.
FEMALE INTERVIEWER: So, General Reinwald, what
things are you going to teach these young boys when
they visit your base?
GENERAL REINWALD: We're going to teach them
climbing, canoeing, archery, and shooting.
FEMALE INTERVIEWER: Shooting! That's a bit
irresponsible, isn't it?
GENERAL REINWALD: I don't see why, they'll be
properly supervised on the rifle range.
FEMALE INTERVIEWER: Don't you admit that this
is a terribly dangerous activity to be teaching children?
GENERAL REINWALD: I don't see how. We will be
teaching them proper rifle discipline before they even
touch a firearm.
FEMALE INTERVIEWER: But you're equipping them to
become violent killers.
GENERAL REINWALD: Well, you're equipped to be a
prostitute, but you're not one, ... are you?
The radio went silent and the interview ended.
You've gotta love the Marines !!!

There is yet another way to know that this story is not true.
Thanks to a law suit by our friends at the ACLU, the Boy Scouts are now forbidden to have any form of events on military bases. This went into effect last year.

well, it does say they are visiting. I doubt they prevent them from entering bases as tourists. They're just against religous groups from using the bases on a regular basis.

I don't see anything wrong with allowing kids to shoot at targets as long as they're properly supervised. I've take my 10-year-old nephew target shooting with a .22 caliber rifle. Please explain to me why I should go to hell for doing this.

Maybe an urban legend but the reasoning may not hold in these times after that last political questioning to Donald Rumsfeld by a marine/army man who was passed the question about getting better protected tanks and Rummy was stumbling for an answer....
Was the serviceguy fired or reprimanded?? Haven't heard? But the question made the news.

No, and allowing kids to gun shoot at targets in a safe and carefully supervised manner doesn't "equip them to become violent killers" either. While the authenticity of the quote may be in doubt, I still couldn't agree with it more.

There was a fellow who eventually got banned for posting conspiratorial rubbish all the time. He would just bust into all the other threads going on and on about the Kennedy assassination and so forth. His screen name was Andrew Talking Walnut!
