Subject: Re: Real Life Meeting?

Written By: HawkTheSlayer on 11/08/06 at 10:28 pm

There are a few people who quite obviously do not get along.

I, for one, would not like to see a gathering ruined or potentially ruined because a few people insist on rankling others.

I say this, because I have been to too many functions that were bombed on, because someone who didn't get along with someone else decided to use the gathering as a forum to sh*t on someone they didn't care for.

This is not meant to cause or stir the pot, but rather to prevent something happening.

Ok...so Kkay and I were talking today about starting a committee to help plan our little shindig in the east.  We were saying that it would be cool to rent a place where we could hang out, eat good food, drink good drinks, etc.  Something like a hall, a pavilion, or similar to that matter.  So far....I think this is what everyone was tossing around:

the meeting will take place in Philly
It will be in or around the beginning of July
Everyone will make their own hotel reservations at their hotel of choice (I will do some research and give you guys a list of hotels/prices/etc)

I know pavilions are usually cheap to rent, but we probably need to reserve one sometime soon. We need to find out exactly who is seriously interested in attending...and then go from there.

I know the last time we tried to vote about certain things (a place to meet, a month to meet, etc)...and that didn't work out so well...so perhaps we should just leave that stuff up to the committee? what do you guys think?  We are open to suggestions.  As soon as we figure out an exact weekend...and we find some potential places to reserve for our gathering.....then we can let everyone know how much they will need to submit toward the rental fee, etc.

June could be a problem for me. My parents will be the ones watching Vaughn...and my mom doesn't get off school until the end of June (she's a nurse)....due to a teacher's strike.  Maybe we could make it the beginning of July...I dunno?

I think the last time we discussed this it was June 22nd. We were planning to be there BUT, now I'm not so sure because my niece is graduating college and my nephew is graduating high school. My dad has it in his mind about having a big family party-but I'm not too sure how other family members feel about this. So, that may or may not happen. Since the plans for the family gathering are up in the air (with no definately plans IF it will happen at all), I can't give a percise date of when we will be available.

It just may be that mid-July might be better because I don't know how many others have graduations to attend in June. I once talked to gemini about it but her daughter is graduating from high school and she doesn't know the date.

Suggestion.  Since we were planning on Philadelphia, but there is talk of the heat in July, which would definitely rule out Savannah, how about a place close to the water, not all that far from Philly(in the scheme of things) that could be family friendly for those wanting to bring the kids.  A weekend here could be good, and anyone wanting to turn it into a real vacation would have plenty to do with things to spare.  Something for absolutely everyone.

Maybe we can get a consensus on this.  I haven't been there but have heard all kinds of stories.  It is great for kids, great for adults, great for families, great for singles, and not that far from the original idea of Philly.  If we could do it on a weekend it could be a little vacation for some of us, even if no one else showed.

We (Carlos & I) don't have a problem if people want to move it. Just let us know where & when. Like I said, June may be a bit dicey but July seems good (at this point).

Average walking speed of about 4 miles per hour.

8 hours of sleep a day, 2 hours for water, washing, food etc.

That's 14 hours of walking a day, 14 x 4 = 56 miles per day.

5253/56 = 94 days.

Math say's you should be able to get there before July.

True, that is 5253 miles as the crow flys. So yes, I suppose you're probably looking at more like 6000 miles unless a bridge is built across the caribbean. But you can walk from New York to Argentina, it's land all the way.

Vegas would actually be cheaper because you can get room deals or stay in the cheaper hotels.  Plus food is cheap and you could hang out anywhere and for as long as you want and everything is within walking distance.  The biggest problem for the east coast people would be the travel expense and I don't blame anyone for not wanting to pay that.

Ok, this is the last time I'm bumping this thread up. The last we decided, it was going to be in Philly sometime in July (we hadn't decided on a date) and everyone will pick their own hotel (if needed). So, in order for this work, we need to pin-point the date, and where/what we will be doing. If no one comes up with anything, that will tell me that this is NOT going to happen.

Something tells me that when Pismo Beach happens, there will be a few of us "accidentally" meeting up!

Jeff, Q- any comments?

Erin- if any meetings are happening in Cali, lemme know!

How near Philly? :)
I'm bridesmaid at a wedding in Delaware on the 22nd March and the bride has assured me I'm very close to Philly, as I'm hopeing to hook up with a penfriend (of the last 20 years who I have never met face to face before!) possibly in Philly.

If Himself comes with me we are planning to go to New York for a few days as we will fly into JFK and he's never been before. I'm not sure exactly what my plans are yet but I will be in the U.S for at least a week.

Philly is known as the tristate area.  Pennsylvania, Delaware and New Jersey.  So you're close.

our call could be something like this "Wayne, how are you, how's the family and Oroville? by the way, I'm wearing a leather hood right now"
