Only 4? You mean that the few of us who live in northern New England can't participate?  :\'( :\'(

There seems to be enough of us on board for trying to pull something together for next summer. Now we just need to decide where and exactly when. I think once we have all the details strieghtened out, I have the feeling that more people will jump on board. But not knowing, I know people can't make a commitment for "sometime next summer to go someplace". I have heard some excellent ideas:

Chicago
DC
Atlantic City  ;)  (yeah, yeah, my idea)
Canada (but that is a big place. It should be narrowed down just a bit.  ;) )

I also like the idea of Boston, too.

Any others?

I wouldn't mind Canada either. Haven't been there is years. But like I said, I think we should narrow it down WHERE in Canada. It is a big place. Montreal? Toronto? Ottawa? Nova Scotia? etc. etc.  The maritimes are pretty. In fact, Carlos and I had talked about taking a camping trip through the maritimes. Maybe we can kill two stones with one bird (and yes, I know what I said).

Another "quick" search:

The cheapest was $ 52 (I'm assuming Canadian dollars) - Clarion Hotel & Suites Selby (2 Stars). But this motel is 10 miles outside Toronto  but they did say that there is a subway station close.

I have no major preference for Toronto.. BUT.. as far as locations go it's fairly central, (same as Chicago in a sense, just further north and east a bit). Plus it does look like there's a lot to do there, I have no knowledge of Ottowa or anything, but ya know, If I'm going out with a bunch of folks, I'm going drinking, not looking at some trees.  ;D

If the West Coasters can't make it there, I nominate Sacramento, CA. for our stomping grounds.
Second choice is Reno, NV.

It is not meant to exclude anyone. It would be impossible to for everyone to get together in one place since we are all over the world. This is just ONE "mini-meet". Maybe the next "mini-meet" will be on the west coast or in the south some where or even in Europe. If people from other parts can make it to this one, great. If not, they will be missed. This thread was started over a year ago and there has been nothing but talk. Now, Davey and I are taking action to make this happen. And I hope that this will just be the first of many to come.

Hence why I said "if this is for that part of the country, it makes sense".  Meaning, if this mini-meet is for people who live closest to that area, it makes sense to have it there.

I'd like to do something like that at some point, too. I've sorta done it once, when my parents bought a Corvette in Florida (that's where the extended family lives) when I was 4, and we drove it back to the Bay Area. We took the Southern route. Sounds like we got a winner-Philly. Now to decide on the weekend.  :-\\  I think once decide on when, we can decide on what motel/area. I know there are some motels that have group rates. If we all book into the same motel, we may be able to get a discount.

As for when:  I suggest after Memorial Day weekend. It would be pretty cool to spend the 4th of July in Philly but I think that may be a bit too much (I'm sure things may be booked and prices go up). So why don't we narrow it down to month first:
June
July
August.

Which one do people prefer?

Well, it looks like sometime in the next few weeks my dad who is painting contractor will get a contract from the government to paint apartments in Biloxi, MS that were damaged by Katrina. Its a 2 year contract and it'll pay $900 an apartment, and we'll be doing 2 or 3 a day because its going to be easy spray work, no brush work, no rolling, easy stuff. That will be 6 days a week. My dad told me he'll pay me $100 a day. So needless to say my money situation should be changing drastically in the next 1-2 months.

That's just under a 1000 miles.. google maps say's it takes 17 hours, but that's bullsh.it, I did it in waaaay less. Well.. not if you include eating and stuff, but you get my point.

Exactly.

When you work in any of the building/maintenance trades you see where all our tax money goes. Over-inflated contracts. I'm not complaining (and neither should you  ;)) because the few grand we pay in tax pales in comparison to the extra money the government sends our way.

Actually I'll be in Biloxi hopefully for 6-8 months. So there it would bea lot less..maybe 300?

As Davey already said, anyone can come. We hope that there are some people on the west coast who can make it.

About the best thing I can remember about Atlanta is the highway out of it.

Ok that sounds like I'm ripping on Atlanta. I forget which highway it is, but it sits way above Atlanta and you can see a whole lot of the city, it's a real neat drive.

I believe it's I-85.  It runs down through Charlotte and into Georgia towards Atlanta.  Pretty sweet view of the city, fo sho.

I did a search of area motels and this is what I found out (I'm only including some of the Amenities):

Roosevelt Inn:
$65.78-$70.18    3 Star
Free Continental Breakfast on Saturdays & Sundays
Meeting room
Bar/lounge
25 miles from airport

Philadelphia Days Inn:
$80-$170.67      3 Star
Free Continental Breakfast
Meeting room
You can get a jacuzzi in your room.  ;D ;D

America's Best Inns:
$81-$90    2 Star
Pool
Meeting/banquet Room
Restaurant on site
3 miles from airport

Alexander Inn:
$99-$159    3 Star
Free Breakfast Buffet
Bar/Lounge
Fitness Spa
Meeting Room
12 Miles from the airport

Of course there are other hotels in the area-many are much for expensive and some that are lower but have less amenities. If anyone can find another one that looks better, I am open to ideas. Of course the prices that are listed are subjected to change by next June. Tell me what you think.

What I was thinking, having a party say on Sat. (either during the day or in the evening) which is why I mentioned motels with a meeting/banquet room. Of course we would have to figure out about having it catered. (Maybe the motel we pick could do that but I'm sure it will be at an extra cost  :-\\ ) I also mentioned about motels that have bar/lounge. Whether they have karaoke too is anyone's guess. I was also looking for motels with pools because I think that is something else that we can do. These are some of the ideas that I have. I would like a little more input about other ideas that people have.

Well, it's in June.

I suggest we find a nice park, get a couple of them throw away BBQ's (Or just some cold cuts, buns etc) a bunch of coolers, maybe some of those cheap ass lawn chairs, or find a park with some big picnic benches. I doubt that's too hard to find.

Especially cus it's gonna be near the end of June, we're gonna wanna just chill out, not be on some major schedule trip or anything, there'll be some people coming who can't go everywhere as well, so if we have a big outdoor thing, it kinda fits everything and everyone.

I'm gonna let you or somebody close to Philly have a look at places.. let's face it, kinda pointless me doing that from here.
Maybe if we haven't decided by the time I get back there I'll take a wander down and have a look around, I'm always looking for excuses to go on the train, I could take Pete down there as well, make a day of things.
