To tell you the truth, he never bothered me much...I just ignored his threads.  However, from what I have seen, he constantly attempts to undermine the powers-that-be on this board to reinitiate his account and then does exactly what he did to get banned in the first place, which is essentially troll-ish behavior that is against the TOU...so he might be a cool guy, but breaking the forum rules when they are spelled out is a no-no...particularly when the forum is owned by someone not named Darko.

That said, others have done way more and not gotten banned, so I guess it's a function of mob rule and being in the wrong place at the wrong time, dunno what to tell ya.  I personally don't have a problem with you ( :) ) but I can see why they'd have a problem with DD.

The kid has been banned which is a punishment of sorts and there's no need to keep knockin DonnieDarko while he's down. So I'm with Marty McFly in that I don't like seeing people on here that are genuinelly good, fun, and even sometimes kind and nice get so vengeful and mean towards him. It's kind of weird.

Anytime he tried to change (i.e. coming back with another account, trying new ways to make threads), you wouldn't let him. That's a no win situation.

It seems like a personal vendetta to be honest. A few (okay, maybe quite a few, lol) decade comparison threads could never make a whole crowd of people as angry and vengeful as some of you have been. One day, he thought it would put me at ease by bumping dozens of ancient topics I'd done, but in fact it made me look like a postwhore cause all my topics were on page 1.  He can postwhore all he wants, but I'll be damned if he's gonna drag me down with him.

What I don't understand with people like Donnie Darko and Alex is why they keep coming back over and over again. Both would post threads on how they hated the boards and everyone on them because of the ways they were treated, leave and then come straight back. Why do people do that ? surely if something is upsetting you so much you would walk right away and leave it be.  :-\\

I think he intended it to be a favor by having more of your old threads seen by more people, but sometimes things like that can backfire.



I guess at its core, it felt like people were mad that he geeked out on things. The fact that he knew all this pop culture stuff and talked about decadeology in detail just proved he was smart.

People sometimes stereotype teens as being dumb. I just wish more of them like Donnie got recognition for their intelligence or thinking outside the box. I'm not saying this from a distance either, because a few years back, I freakin' HATED being lumped in with the "dumb teens" just because of my age. I like to analyze things or get into pop culture (decadeology sort of figured into the mix too). I also never thought things more than 3 years before the present were stupid or old, which is another teenager stereotype that always bugged me.

In closing, the Donnie bashing angers me because I've been where he is. I appreciate your thoughts on this McFly. Not too many people pulling for the guy, and why should they. Lets' face it, he effd up and lost all privileges. I'm not out to guilt anyone because I know people got annoyed and frustrated with his behavior and he's paid with his banishment from the realm. I can understand and relate to how you feel about really being into talking about things from the past in detail...because I am the same way. I can honestly say that some of DD's threads were interesting..and I did partake in some of them...because like you, I like to talk about things that remind me of my childhood and beyond. I never really had any chance to personally interact with DD....I spoke to him casually in a few of his threads, but it was never a "friendship" kind of thing.  I think if he would have learned to tone it down, and not create so many repetitive threads, he would have been an asset to the boards....but like everyone else said, he was warned, suggested to, etc...about his constant thread making...and he didn't abide by the rules.  And, btw....I never considered you and DD to be on the same level....nowhere near it. The only similarity is that both of you like to talk about "decadeology" in detail....but there are ways of doing it so that you aren't becoming a nuisance on the boards...and you, my friend, have been a perfect example of that! :)

Oh, I agree with that. Rules are rules, so whether or not I agree with it, this is Chucky's board and his choice (I've actually been a moderator on another board in the past myself, so I can sympathize with having to delete or edit cr*p - that is annoying). So I'm not advocating that, but it seems like some people weren't willing to give him a second shot.


I was a little miffed when I wrote my previous replies, so if it came out the wrong way, I do apologize.:) I think what annoyed me in general isn't so much whether people like his threads or not - that's your own right - it's more the persistant attitude of disdain towards him merely because he made some mistakes (not by everyone of course, but by some).

Just for the record: I don't hate anybody. I don't even know if I'm capable of hating.
There's a lot of topics on this board that I don't find interesting, so I ignore them. As it happens, most of Donnies topics fall under this heading. Neither Donnie nor his (multitude of) topics have ever bothered me, so I don't see what reason I could have to hate him.

That said, breaking/ignoring the rules is always a no-no, and repeatedly doing so only makes things worse.

Haven't seen both of them in quite a while.

The reason DD was banned wasn't a SINGLE trigger, it was a bunch of annoying things, that he didn't change.

For instance, bumping a bunch of old threads by a single person.  Granted, he didn't do that more than once.

Starting dozens of threads about nothing, or about decadalogy

Posting his "decadalogy" nonsense in threads that had nothing to do with it.  That was the final straw. 

As for the subject of "decadalogy"... ugh.  It's some weird analysis of trends that doesn't make any sense.  Things aren't boiled down to a particular year in the manner he was trying to say "well this song is like a 1983 song".  There is no such thing as a "1983" song unless someone wrote a song called 1983.  You could say a song could soung like it was on the radio in 1983, but even then, he's trying to apply some sort of year granularity that makes little sense.  How could you even tell the difference between a song that could be on the radio vs one that was on the radio in 1982 or 1984?  You can't!  The music industry doesn't move that quickly, not now, and especially not then.  There were hundreds of songs that reached the top 40 in 1983.  Are you going to tell me Men Without Hats sounds like Kenny Rogers, or Duran Duran?  What makes one of their songs more "1983ish" than the other? ummm. NOTHING

Therefore, the whole "decadalogy" thing?  It's nonsense!  No one wants to read a load of rubbish.

as for deleting him when he returns.  Well, he knows how to change his IP to get around the block.  If he didn't resort to the same stupid annoying behavoir he exhibited when he got banned, how would I know it was him?  The fact that every moderator plus several long time members began reporting his posts and talking about him almost immediately on his return is a pretty good indication that he HAS NOT CHANGED.  Since he knows he can bypass the filter, he probably doesn't see a reason to either.  So, we're going to keep banning him. Why even wait for him to spam the entire board with his crud all over again?  It's just more work for the mods to deal with.  At least now I've appointed several mods, so I have less of it to do personally, but I see no reason anyone should have to bother babysitting one person who was given amble chances to reform.
