Most of the New York City subway system was back in service by this evening’s rush hour after a fierce morning storm disrupted transit service throughout much of the region and unleashed a rare and destructive tornado that whipped southwestern Brooklyn with winds of up to 135 miles an hour.

The storm dropped about 3 inches of rain on the New York metropolitan area in about an hour, flooding major thoroughfares, cutting off power to thousands of homes and causing confusion that lingered through a humid, sweaty day.

This happened 2 years ago.

Thankfully we have no tornados in California, but we actually did have a tornado warning once, a few years back.

I believe the a tornado needs land to form under the right atomspheric condition involving heat on the clouds and temperature rising from the ground, and in California the wind and weather (I believe) comes in from the Pacific Ocean and the tornado cannot from over water.

I will do deep research later.

There was a small one in Western,NY yesterday in a little village of Corfu.

Two tornadoes I can recall happened in July or August in Birmingham (a week before a big cricket match) a few years back and my one in December, so they could happen all year round.

My mom was in Europe 34 years ago during the summer and probably encountered some inclement weather. I'm pretty sure she's told me about rain there, but nothing worse.
