One time when I was on a city bus, the driver actually did make an announcement when two bums in the back of the bus were suspected of smoking or doing something unnice on board. He stopped the bus to make that announcement, and came this close to dropping 'em off in the middle of nowhere.

I have written 3 notes to our spineless landlord and yelled at him this morning for his lack of doing anything.
As he was walking away I continued to yell at him and everyone on the sidewalk and on the street and in other units heard what has been going on in this building (we also have no heat since January, and a wasps nest for 2 years which we have written 6 long notes and he has done nothing.) ,screaming at the top of my lungs how this building is the worst on earth. That felt good!

Who will I give a smite to right now? I can identify some people who I encountered on the road today:
First of all, there's this one driver who nearly ran into us on the freeway after crossing over the V-lines in attempt to get out of the exit ramp and get back on the freeway itself. He crossed into the "gore point" area (I think it's called) and just kept going, oblivious to the oncoming traffic in the right lane. So we had to swerve to avoid him. My mom and I were heading north on highway 101, but I wasn't the one driving our car. So anyway, when this creep got back into the traffic lanes, he drove very erratically, failing to signal when changing lanes, and making a few other dangerous driving moves. So on a slip of paper, I wrote down the license plate number of the car, as well as the make, model, and color of the car, and noted that a man was driving it (I could see as he passed us). And then when my mom and I got to our destination (her office; she had some work to do), she called the California Highway Patrol to report the creep, mentioning what he did and how he came so close to causing an accident. So this smite goes to "the erratic driver who nearly hit us on October 2, 2010" (for whoever is keeping the smite log).
Secondly, to people who think they can cross the street against a red light. My mom and I spotted two cases of that on the way home. The second one was a young-looking guy who jaywalked, crossing a signaled intersection diagonally (so that he passed through the center of the intersection)!

First of all... sounds like a typical california driver to me... tho I'm not sure I have clear picture of the incident since your terminology of V-lane and gore lane are foreign to me... but almost no one signals when they change lanes down here or hadn't you noticed. Personally, I hate people who stay in the slow lane when I'm trying to merge onto the freeway... you know the on ramp is coming up so speed up or move over....
secondly... if the guy was driving as erratically as you say...you should have called CHP right away- by the time you got around to calling he was probably no longer in the area and could have easily gotten off the freeway. There is nothing the police can do about an erratic driver unless they see the person driving in the same manner you describe so- 5 minutes, 10 minutes later if the police spot him and he's no longer driving that way they can't cite him because you perceived he was driving poorly.
I hate when people call me after to fact to tell me something happened... 911 I saw a three guys looking into car windows I think I they were trying to steal stuff... when was this? 30 minutes ago... thanks. thanks a lot.
Or I'm followed this person who was driving 85 on the freeway... where are they now? they parked and walked into a building. ::)
here's the thing Jeff... if you had a cell phone, you could have called CHP... Ventura's non emergency dispatch number is 805-477-4174. The Ventura CHP dispatch center handles all freeway incidents from the LA county line through Santa Barbara and up to about Buellton. And if its a real emergency then dial 9-1-1
And, I know California has no cell phone while driving law but if you need to report something to CHP you are actually authorized in an emergency to talk on your cell phone while driving....
finally....who cares if someone jaywalks... if there is a break in traffic or time to go for it- especially if the place I want to go is in the middle of a block I'm going to cut corners and go... if I get hit by a car then that's on me... but since when are you and your mom in charge of what other people decide to do... geez- jeff- lighten up man. Its not your job to regulate what other people do in the world... just take care that you do the right thing and let others be.

you didn't know you could call 911 on your cell to report a "crime"
BTW- everyone should have the non emergency phone numbers for their law enforcement agency's dispatch center programmed into their phones... if you don't you should all go do that now!!!

someone should create a separate sports fudge thread in the sports section of the board ::)
Now that you mention it, I think that's a good suggestion...of course I do that on the general threads anyway when I complain about my favourite teams losing or my least-favourite teams winning.

yeah but it would save you from having to do it here... plus if you did you could not just fudge teams who are better than the Dodgers. you could fudge coaches, players, sportscasters, fans.... and any other sports related incidents that might arise...

howard that's not lacking common sense. That's making an honest to goodness mistake. They might not have realized it was their stop until the bus started moving again. It happens. People day dream or are reading the paper....or they just blank out.

No, it just wouldn't turn on. It was plugged in and everything, but we couldn't press the power button to turn it on. Even holding it down for a certain number of seconds (like you have to do with some machines) didn't help.

My Brother MFC 420 scanner/fax/printer does the same thing from time to time. I have to physically unplug it from the power bar and use a different slot on the bar or sometimes just plug it back into the very same slot that I just unplugged it from. I have no idea why this fixes it, but it does. ???

So he tried to evade the fare payment? He can't do that (or shouldn't be able to, at that). It's one thing if you have a bus pass which you can show to the operator, but it's another if you have no form of payment at all. ::)

I don't know what that guy was thinking,I know it's raining heavy but you're delaying passengers by just standing there back door open, door open and raining, bus drivers just can't have sympathy for one person on a crowded bus,you either tell him to get off the bus, delay the passengers, stop the bus or call Transit Authority.
