That's something I need to do... get together with a fellow member from this site. I already know at least one who lives less than 100 miles from me.
By the way, how was it meeting up with Alan? I saw from your pictures on the photo thread that you had a good time.

The meeting went well, I was nervous at first, and as we got chatting it seemed we had known each other for ages. Neither of us was paying true attention to the cricket that was being played.

Cider sold here in Connecticut is not alcoholic. It has a slightly different taste to apple juice though, I think they add spices to it :-\\ You have to buy 'hard' cider if you want the alcoholic version

I think the ticket was £20 .... which is in the order of $40 ? Given that NEITHER of us was paying much attention to the cricket (it was just a convenient venue / excuse to meet ) .. well, if we were truly intelligent, we'd've saved our money, and met in the park / a pub.
I guess we deluded ourselves that England might put on some sort of remarkable fight back ... put on some sort of show ? :-\\ As it was, they showed that renowned British resolve 8) 8) .......... and surrendered like lambs ! :-[ :-[

It's pretty much apples pressed though a giant sieve. Very few added ingredients, however cinnamon is sometimes added. Apple juice is more processed and has added sugar. As for Hard Cider, it's pretty hard to get here in PA for some reason. Which is why I've never tried it.

I've never tried the "hard" version either. However I have had sparkling cider, (usually for special occasions) and it's pretty good.

i remember hearing people say that Julian would/should/could take over from his father. I always thought that unfair to both of them. Julian wasn't John, two separate people with different lives. Johns life made him what he was/is.

Actually ... now come to think of it ... no, they aren't animating (I'm using Firefox) .... hadn't really thought much about it. Yes ... I HAVE seen them animate before. Maybe it's to do with some anti-scripting protection built in, or some add on I installed ?

In some regards I think it is. But there are differences in the way that certain animations and text formats behave.
For example, when glowing your text...
Internet Explorer will show the "glow" surrounding the text, like a glow is supposed to do....whereas Firefox will show it as a rectangular bar behind the text. I personally like the way IE does it better, but when I use Firefox and see the rectangle, it's not such a bad thing in the long run.

Unless you get those pesky red x's showing up instead of images .... (possible an extra browser would permit observation ... when that happens? ). I have set up Firefox as my default browser ... but am ALSO able to connect ... at the same time ... via 'Opera' ... another browser. I'm actually about to try the latest update ... since, ... to be totally honest .... I've found the LATEST Firefox 3 .... seems REALLY slow with THIS site. I expect to find the Opera browser to be a 'zippier' exprerience ... but we'll see ?
Anyhow, I do think it's worth having an extra browser installed (not necessarily as default browser) ... for troubleshooting purposes ?

Well when I FIRST looked at this page ... (in this 'Miscellaneous thread' ) ... your Dolphins were animating fine. However they are currently frozen again ... since I checked your link in 'Hammer' thread. They .... the 'imageshack' link ... which is STILL what you're using in your signature ... are also frozen in 'Hammer' . However ... the photobucket link ... IS animating. I know what modification I'd be making to my signature !
Incidentally ... I never thought about this ... as being related to imageshack. Indeed ... I had noticed that .. for example, some animated flames that I posted in both 'Happy hour' and 'ninny fan club' thread ... stopped animating after about 10 seconds. I may have to re-explore getting photobucket account ? (Which I DID have ... but lost login name / password).
Hang on ... hold your horses. Now the photobucket dolphins are no longer animating either ... even with a page 'refresh' ! :-\\ Maybe it's firefox related ? (for me) . I just don't know ! :-[
Subject: Re: Miscellaneous
Written By: Green Lantern on 10/19/08 at 6:47 pm
^ Or maybe it's THIS site ! Something in the software ... a bug ? / something to do with the file size ? My sig IS animating fine (imageshack) but it's around 50KB. Dolphins is approx. 76kB ... perhaps borderline in 'animating' problem free ?

Try sticking THAT in your sigline, Jeff !
I DO believe I've solved / fixed this one ! 8)
Downloaded the one that was causing problems .. and analyzed it. What I discovered ... the gif was set to animate 232 times ! That's say ... 4 minutes (allowing for maybe one anim per second ? ??? :-\\ ) . So ... on a persons computer ... they'd maybe see it for around 5 mins animating ?
I have played with it ... and set to to loop INFINITELY ... and uploaded to photobucket. Give it a go !
(Yeah ... I'm now suspecting my 'flames' gif ... was also limited in its looping. ::) ) .

I have played with it ... and set to to loop INFINITELY ... and uploaded to photobucket. Give it a go !
(Yeah ... I'm now suspecting my 'flames' gif ... was also limited in its looping. ::) ) .
You had to wait the four minutes to find out?

Look .... I'd say there's maybe 4 complete animations every 5 seconds (?) .... at least three. Working on 4 .... per 5 seconds .. that means 48 every minute. If only 3 per 5 seconds .. thats' 36 per minute.
Divide the 232 frame limit of the original (before it halts) ... 48 into 232 ... that's less than 5 minutes before it stops. If as few as 36 frames per minute ... it stops within 7 minutes ! I think I can guarantee that per logged in session ... you will find those 'Hammer' dolphins will have stopped .... well within 10 minutes !
Compare those with mine ...

I'm not. His 'testing' 'Yup still works' ... stopped animating on this page for me AGES ago. Mine's still going (on the same page). It's probably in my cache ... the software on the computer says yep .. I've animated this 232 for YOU (Al). It will be different for each user ... depending on time logged in ? But within 10 mins.

From what little I've heard about it Japanese sounds tricky.
My boss at work was learning it. One lesson he learnt to count to ten. The next week he found out that those numbers were just used for counting such as playing hide and seek; there are different words for numbers used for counting objects. And, even worse, it depends on the shape of the object. For example long and thin (like pencils) or flat like sheets of paper. :o

Could it be a server at your end rather than directly to do with the boards? I expect you connect via more than one server to look at a page. :-\\

It was the server that governs the inthe00s board for I still had my page set-up, mahogany colouring, avatar, etc.

Philip -
Here is something that I noticed very recently.
I used to use the Mahogany theme, my pages were always slow to load or I would get the server error.
I switched back to the default theme, and I load on time, no problems.
Looking at the error log, there are a few members who are kicking out errors left, right and centre. Babylon kicks out a bunch for one, and deep blue babylon kicks out some for a few other people. I know what ones are doing it because I have asked these people what theme they are using.
Might be because our version of SMF is older, but we know this version runs well, compared to the bugs that are in the newer versions. Chucky is going to update at some point, but he wants to make sure that the newer versions are good to go without causing us problems getting on and such.
The only thing I can suggest you try Philip - is going back to the forum default (which I believe is Babylon anyway) and giving it a try.
Sorry if I haven't been helpful.

I originally chose mahogany for it is not bright on my eyes, as staring at the screen all day long.
Lets go for the change.

It's tolerable for me today, (still using Mahogany).
I might consider occasionally switching to 'Babylon' ....on days when I'm having 'pain in the ass' experiences.
Having switched briefly to it, last night ... well, I found the glare, not worth putting up with, for the current benefit (little, at this time).

Mahogany .... is TOO bright ? What planet are you from, Howard ! ::) If anything ... it is too 'dark'. It is meant to be EASIER on the eye / less glare/ eye-strain.
Philip Eno ... the person who's here more than ANYBODY ... until recently, swore by it .. and Tam likes it too ... except it seems to have sluggishness associated with it, for the time being.
I am still using it, but may opt to switch short term, from time to time, if these slow-down issues, seem fixed, by the switch.

I definitely prefer mahogany - but when it was taking my pages 2.985 seconds to load, I figured something was up.
I have tried the deep blue babylon - but the text size strains my eyes.
I am now using the SMF default, because text size is good, just don't like the bright whiteness of the pages.
I suppose whenever it is all straightened out, I will go back to the mahogany for sure! ;)

I think at this point Philip, we're at a standstill until our SMF is updated.
Chucky is so busy and still testing the latest SMF on 'another' forum.... I haven't really looked into the themes over there. I probably should.
Keep your fingers crossed ;)

there are 3 colors to choose from right now Howard.
If you click your profile, then on the left side there is a link that says Look and Layout
If you click that, at the top of a new page it says Theme and there's a link to change theme.
Click it and you can choose from the themes. ;)
