I have always made sure of buying good batteries every time I need to buy some. They are especially good to have in emergency situations.

and also a good battery charger.

Sometimes that is not recommended. If you charge certain batteries too many times, they could quit working entirely.

The energy contain in the battery must lose a percentage on each time it is recharged.

Also, do not buy cheap batteries, for a once brought a pack of a dozen AA size for £1, and none of them worked.

If dissatisfied with custom, that is true.

One time my family and I were dissatisfied with a restaurant, was in early 2002; we went inside a restaurant and nobody acknowledged the fact that we were there! It was as if we were invisible to them or something. So we complained to the management: "This is the first time we've been here, and it's going to be the last." And then we stormed out (never to return) and ate somewhere else.

I think I may have discussed the full story in another thread ("Most upsetting restaurant visits" in the Food section) back in 2006.

Maybe I should mention a few other places where I had not-so-nice experiences, so that others can avoid them too!

In fact, 13 years ago (almost to the day) my family and I went to an Italian place in Glendora, CA (a few miles east of L.A.) for a distant relative's 95th birthday, and the food wasn't all that great (neither was the service, come to think of it). I haven't been by there at all since then, but I do know from looking on Google Street View that the place is no longer there; it was replaced by something else! (I don't know when, though.)

Location of said place, now known as Glendora Continental, but was a completely different establishment in 1997

Could've been. If no one wanted to go there due to poor quality, it probably lost business.

The Marie Callenders restaurant my family and I went to in 2002 is still there, but every time we drive past it, it always looks so dark. (Google Street View is not available for Daily Drive, but is available for the nearby freeway offramp.)

No, it just looks dark from the outside. And the one time we went in there, the lighting was rather dim. I guess there are some things that don't change over 8 1/2 years' time.

Maybe because the Google Street View vehicle has not yet traversed that street?

There are lots of streets in my city that are not yet available on GSV, including the one I live on.

But I have been able to check out other areas of southern California that I am familiar with on GSV. For some of them, you can actually tell when some of those shots were taken, due to flashing time/temperature marquees and other signs nearby.

Some people have express by not having their house on view.

Just not to where you can zoom in and see the number clearly.

Furthermore, there are millions of streets in the world, so it would take several years for the Google Street Vehicle to traverse them all. Plus, sometimes newer views of the same areas may be needed in a few years' time because some areas do get updated. For example, a current vacant lot may have a building on it 4 or 5 years from now.

I often end up with angular views of certain establishments on GSV as well, depending on where they are. It's still lots of fun. Sometimes I spend hours just looking at it.

Of course not. Some of the street views I've seen are from 2007 and 2008. I can tell by the dated signs and other things in said images. For the record, I did come across one GSV image that was taken on May 7, 2009, at 1:30pm Pacific Time; I could tell because there was an electric marquee that displayed "Thursday...5/7...1:29 PM" in the various shots near it. So that one is fairly recent.

What made it hard?

the different levels.

With each progressive level, the game probably gets harder due to all the enemies and other naughty things that must be dodged or defeated. It's like that with lots of video games.

One thing that centre on all this, is the complexity of the Internet, how is searches through all the websites so quickly?

Well I know that most search engines, such as Google, are known to do that...but I don't quite know how. The speed at which program code is executed also amazes me. For me, I have to go through steps one by one so that I fully understand everything.

I know C++, Java, and Visual Basic for the most part. I had lots of fun with Visual Basic when I took the class ten years ago. I also know a little bit about HTML code, mainly in terms of formatting text, but that does not work on here (but some of the bracketed tags perform similar functions, such as the B for bold and I for italic).

I learned a little bit of QBASIC in early 1993, in a winter intersession class, but didn't do too well back then. That might've been the earliest programming I ever did. It was on an Apple II-C computer, which at the time was pretty obsolete. Like I said, I didn't do too well in the class (mainly because I had a hard time understanding complex graphics and how to program them), but I was able to recycle that knowledge ten years later, in early 2003. At that time, I put together a little Visual Basic "maze" program during my spare time, using what I knew about putting together a maze in QBASIC, and using the language rules of Visual Basic. The maze I composed turned out to be a success.

The very first computer I ever remember using was an Apple II-E, which I mostly used for playing mathematical-oriented games in the 3rd grade; this was in the late 1980s (1988-89).

Question is, would the disks and the machine itself still work in 2010? In the older days, disks were made of different materials and probably weren't intended to last a real long time. Floppy ones were truly floppy. And the hard drives had relatively small amounts of total memory.

I miss those days when you could put a blank floppy in a computer.

Even after the newer types of floppy disks (the 3 1/2" diskettes) came out, you could still put a blank one in a computer and save stuff to it. For those, the main problem was that they only held 1.44 MB of storage space, which was okay if you were saving a lot of small files. I did that for several years, until I invested in a flash disk for the first time (mid-2006). However, over the years I went through several floppies, and a few of them even died on me; that was another drawback. I even lost one in March 2002 and had to start over again.

Absolutely. Then you could lose everything. I regret not backing up my personal files from our old laptop that crashed in June of 2007.

The laptop computer that has basically belonged to my dad since Christmas 2003 has been really close to crashing, since it's been around a long time and has been running low on total memory, so we're trying to use that one as little as possible. So my mom got her own laptop last April and my parents recently got one for me, so we don't have to all use the same one. Only problem is, the old laptop is the only machine connected to a printer (which we bought on Groundhog Day of 2001), and that printer is not compatible with our two newer laptops, so if we wanna print something out, we have to turn on the old computer. Sometime this year we would like to see about getting a printer which my mom and I can use with our laptops.

What's really annoying is the sudden dialog box that pops up saying "This program has performed an illegal operation and will be shut down", especially when you're right in the middle of something. And of course, clicking the button on that will kill your program and any unsaved changes are lost. That kind of thing happened a lot with Windows 95 and 98.

Yep, that's a problem they face when there are lots of 'em connected to the same network.

At my work, we all had access to the system database, and if there was too much activity on it at one time, sometimes it would go slow, and the changes to a particular record would sometimes not get saved.

A message about safety mode restarting?

Safety mode is often suggested to take care of any problems in the hard drive...but then I am sometimes confused as to what to do next.

Yeah, that kind of thing can be confusing for 9 out of 10 people.

One time the annoying "illegal operation" message happened right when I was in the middle of typing a note to someone. I was already having a not-so-wonderful afternoon anyway, and the computer acting strangely didn't help. Eventually I got my note written and the problem straightened out. This happened ten years ago, by the way.

The Super Mario Brothers Super Show.

Yes, that's the one. The first segment would be live-action, with two actors (Lou Albano and Danny Wells) playing the parts of the Mario Brothers living as plumbers in New York (I think); they would be visited by special guest stars. The second segment would be a ten-minute animated cartoon, featuring the Mario Brothers, along with Princess Toad Stool and some other character; their mission would usually be to battle their archnemesis, King Koopa. The Mario Bros' animated cartoons would air in the Monday through Thursday episodes. In the episodes which aired on Fridays, the cartoon featured...you guessed it...the legend of Zelda! Zelda would be accompanied by a male hero named Link, and together they would battle their archnemesis, an evil wizard named Gannon.

I know it only ran for one season, namely 1989-90; when the episodes were re-ran in the later months, the intro and live-action portions were replaced with a "Club Mario" format, which had a totally different look and feel...but each one maintained the animated cartoon in the second segment, including the Zelda cartoon on Fridays.

The only managers I keep track of are those of baseball...such as Joe Torre (who managed the Yankees for 12 straight years before becoming manager of the Dodgers; he has also managed other clubs), Tommy Lasorda (who managed the Dodgers for 20 years and has been regarded as one of their best in team history), Tony LaRussa (Oakland A's and St. Louis Cardinals), among numerous others.

Well, lots of people do use BlackBerries to access the internet and keep track of their personal business and stuff. I for one have no desire to get one. I guess some people like to use hand-held devices to browse the web while they're on the go, and not have to worry about lugging a computer around (even if it does have a wireless connection).
Personally, I wish to use the internet only on a computer, and when I am indoors.

Spotted!

There are six of those altogether...the only decades forum that doesn't have one yet is the 2010's.

I have been wearing glasses for a while now, and need a new pair.

I never have needed to wear any (except for sunglasses, which I wear to protect my eyes when going outdoors). I have been lucky to have good vision for all 30 years of my life. Both of my parents have worn eyeglasses for most of their lives.

Been almost two days since this thread has been moving. I say we get it going some more.

We gotta move it!

Yes, and we are still doing that, despite the new phrase in the title.

We need more playing the legend in this topic!

I've been trying to think of new titles for this thread that involve the legend of Zelda, while maintaining "like to move it" or "MC Hammer Pants."
