Okay. Too bad I can't mail you a copy if I find one :-\\

By the way... the mountainous areas that were scorched by the Station Fire three months ago, have been in danger of mudslides. This includes the northeast end of Tujunga near where ET's house is. However, from what I've heard, the houses on Lonzo Street do not appear to be in immediate danger of mudflow, which is a good thing. The heavily affected areas are Big Tujunga Canyon and La Canada Flintridge.

Many an old building in London is disappearing, but many do have a preservation order on them.

Sometimes an old public building may need to be dismantled due to structural reasons (such as too unstable or just unsafe), or if it gets heavily damaged in a natural disaster such as an earthquake or tornado.

Next month it'll be 16 years since the Northridge earthquake (in Los Angeles), and several buildings in the area (as well as certain overpasses) were damaged to the point where they couldn't be repaired easily. The damaged freeway overpasses all got rebuilt.

There are plenty of classic movies out there that the people of the newer generations probably haven't seen yet (or at least have an opportunity to see).

Could've been. Often times on that show, a block of categories will have a common theme.

Any of the music played?

No. The "Hammer time" category had to do with the tool, and the "U Can't Touch This" category was about things that could not be touched by human hands.

well, all I can really do is take it easy.

And because of my illness, I have not been able to help my family put the ornaments on the Christmas tree (something I always enjoy doing). Maybe by the weekend I will be better, and there may be a couple ornaments left for me to place on the tree. Right now I just have to go easy on myself.

12 years, wow! Back then (late 1997) I wasn't using the internet at all. I was in the middle of my senior year of high school, and just beginning the winter break. Just for the record...on this date (Dec. 20) I remember I was helping out at church with organizing/distributing food for needy families.

Yeah, and I remember that I spent several hours that day helping with that project.

Also, just a month ago I helped my mom with a similar project, and it was just for the morning. I might've discussed it in last month's "How you feeling" thread.

On the subject of donations, we have lots of old books that we'd like to get rid of; they are currently being stored in boxes in the garage. Maybe we can donate them to a library.

I donated lots of toys when I was younger, mainly to the Salvation Army and places that take used goods. For example, I had a board game called "Roller Coaster" which I'd gotten for Christmas in '89, but decided to part with it when I was in my teen years.

I've asked them what we should do with those books, and they said it would be great to donate them to a library or used bookstore. But right now we can't really do that with the holiday season fast approaching, cuz there's always stuff to be done. Maybe sometime next week we can see about doing that.

I used to go to Bookmans and Changing Hands Bookstore when I was living in AZ.  There's some used bookstores out here in NV, but not as good as the ones I went to in AZ.  My favorite one out here (in North Las Vegas) went out of business a couple of years ago.  :(

I have all the volumes, those were good books to read.

Oh, the "Choose Your Own Adventures" series? I enjoyed those too!!

What was special about those books, is that you don't read them from beginning to end, like you do most books. When you get down to the bottom of page, it'll offer you a list of choices as to what you wanna do next. Example: "If you want to (do choice #1), turn to page 42. If you want to (do choice #2), turn to page 65." That's why each book in the series is called "Choose Your Own Adventures"; sometimes your adventure can wind up really good, and sometimes not so good.

Books of this nature are known as "gamebooks."

I had a couple of them; they might be packed away in a box somewhere in my garage...unless I got rid of them at one time or another.

That particular book looks like it might've been made sometime in the mid-20th century, based upon the cover artwork.

I still haven't found a used bookstore in my area yet. But I'm sure there are places where we can donate our used books that are still sitting in our garage.

When my mom had her old job, it was at a church that had its annual carnival for one weekend every summer, and among the festivities was a book sale, in which the parishioners (people who attended the church) could donate their old and used books. And every year that my mom was working there, we would always have several books to donate. Altogether there'd probably be thousands of books for sale at the carnival. This year we couldn't do that, since my mom isn't there anymore (she'd been laid off in August of '08).

Probably no specific year; maybe a range of years.

My dad has a series of "Clair Bee" books, which were published in the 1950's; these were fiction stories about sports for younger readers.

That's good. It's nice to have an appreciation for cover art, both old and new. :)

Oh, by the way, today we finally were able to get rid of those used books that were sitting in our garage. We took the old clothes to the Salvation Army (I think?), and the people there also said they'd gladly take the books.

So now the next step is to get rid of all the other junk that's sitting around in the garage.

When I watched the movie "That Thing You Do" on TV last nite, I saw lots of old-style electrical appliances, since that film was set in the 1960s. (Of course, I've seen that movie several times already.) The prop department must keep lots of old-style gadgets around in order to set films several decades in the past.
