that is awesome Mark!! I checked out the link...it sounds really cool...when I have some extra time I will read more of it......my dad has been running races (5K, 10K, marathons, etc) for years....I was like 10 or so when he started and now I am 28....so it's been a while now. We have gotten to travel out of state many times due to his races...it's been a really neat experience. I wish you the best in your endeavor to run the race that you plan on running....I am sure it will be VERY exciting!!

I feel absolutely GREAT today. I have mentioned about reading my old journal and allowing the hubby to read it too.  :o  It has been theraputic for both of us and last night we had a major discussion about that time, our present and our future. We both realized how much we have grown over the years and how much we were and are truly and totally in love with each other. It is such a wonderful feeling. Ain't life grand?  ;D ;D ;D

I have just checked my computer today because I'm getting some extra RAM for it (I want to speed it up that bit more for the video editing that I do). I have found out that I am only using one slot with a 512MB RAM in it. It means I can power up my computer in a big way.  :D

Gerbil Rocket

In retrospect, lighting the match was my big mistake. But I was only trying to save the gerbil," Eric Tomaszewski told the bemused doctors in the Severe Burns Unit of Salt Lake City Hospital. Tomaszewski and his homosexual partner, Andrew "Kiki" Farnum, had been admitted for emergency treatment after a felching session had gone seriously wrong.

"I pushed a cardboard toilet paper tube up his rectum and slipped Ragout, our gerbil, in," he explained. "As usual, Kiki shouted out 'Armageddon,' my cue that he'd had reached nirvana, so to speak. I tried to retrieve Raggot but he simply would not come out, so I peered into the tube and struck a match, thinking the light might attract him."

At a hushed press conference, a hospital spokesman desribed what happened next.

"The match ignited a pocket of intestinal methane gas in Kiki's colon. Flames shot out the tube, ignited Mr. Tomaszewski's hair and severely burning his face. It also set fire to the gerbil's fur and whiskers, causing it to scurry further up Kiki's colon, which in turn ignited a larger pocket of gas further up the intestine, propelling the rodent out of the cardboard tube like a cannonball."

Tomaszewski suffered second degree burns and a broken nose from the impact of the gerbil, while Farnum suffered first and second degree burns to his anus and lower intestinal tract.

Sadly, Ragout the gerbil did not survive the incident.

I don't hate them. I just think they are pointless as pets.

Don't get caught now.  ;D

I used to have gerbils as pets when I was a kid. I have to say as a 9 year old, I took VERY good care of them (with no help from anyone else). When I went away, I asked my sisters to take care of them for me. When I got back, they were so much smaller than I left them. Yes, they weren't the same ones because a cat got at the ones I had.  ::)  I was a bit upset because they 1) didn't take as good care of them as I did, 2) they tried to lie to me by replacing my gerbils with two new ones. (But, I did find the one that wasn't eaten by the cat and so now I had 3).

That is a sad shame that one of your gerbils got eaten, Cat. I view them as pointless (like Sea monkeys - what is that about?) but it is awful if they die - and the 'gerbil sitter' lies about it afterwards.  ::)

20 great songs....I hadn't heard the CD in a couple years but our favourite on it was "Sauvecito" by Malo from 1972...there's lots of early 60's too...a nice mix. I just have the titles of the songs and most I don't know the artists names :-\\

We made a Memory DVD for my parents 50th Anniversary last year.  If I ever need a good cry, I watch it. It gets me every time. I don't know if I'll ever be able to watch it when they're not around anymore.  :(

You will, it's just hard.  We have tapes that my Dad made years ago.  He was filming family and talking to them.  He died in 92 and now when the tapes are played I can hear his voice and it feels like he's there again.  It's a very empty feeling, but I love to just hear his voice. :\'(

Now forgive me for smiling at this, and it is a well-known difference in the US/UK and that is the interpretation of pants. I know they mean trousers in US but it would sound funny to readily admit you exchanged some underwear on the thread -  what a great laugh!  ;D

It's great you are losing some weight with little effort.  :)

I tried many times unsuccessfully. ;D (sounds like a smoker) I would stop drinking it for a few days and next thing I know I would be back to drinking 1-2 sometimes 3 a day. ::) ;D   I love soda!  Pepsi, Cherry Pepsi or Coke, Dr Pepper.  Yummy.  Now I only have it with pizza or when I eat out. :\'(  Uh-oh, this is turning sad once again. ;D ;D ;D

Yeah, it usually describes mens underwear (quite often we refer to women's underwear as knickers, I presume you all do that too?).  :-\\

Not too commonplace these days (with the introduction of boxer shorts and thongs) but can still raise a cheap laugh.  ;)  ;D

The phone company has some cheap plans for DSL.  It's really worth it for the amount of time you use the computer.  My Mom finally got DSL after years of dial up.  I don't see how you can stand it.  We have high speed cable which is not cheap, but my husband plays those internet games.

Well, I'm in the process of dumping Cable TV for satelite so in a while I should have DSL.....hopefully. Hey, I can only stand dial-up after not going to the library where they have DSL....I don't miss what I don't remember :D

Yesterday my eldest daughter took part in a local youth choir festival. Her school choir came second in their age group (under 11s), which was really unexpected, and they won a prize for "most promising choir".

I wasn't really expecting to enjoy the whole event much as often these performances are of a pretty low standard. However, all of the kids there were really enjoying it and some of the songs they sang were just great. I have to admit I was sitting there with a tear running down my face at one point from the sheer enjoyment and enthusiasm that the kids put into it, the looks on their faces and the wonderful sound of their singing. Plus it was a beautiful Spring day here in England with crystal blue sky and warm sunshine coming in through the windows. All in all it was a great event, I really enjoyed it :).

I decided to work on my potter's wheel yesterday after months of being away from it.  To my surprise, I wasn't rusty at all.  I threw four pots and everything turned out just the way I wanted it to.  :)

Very nice, Karen. Do you put an enamel design on them afterwards?  :)

Thanks, Bobby!  :)

No, I don't put enamel on them.  I work with stoneware clay and then finish my pots with a nice ceramic glaze.

That is great. Do you make use for the pots you make or do you sell them on?

A little of both.  Most of the pots I either keep or give to family members as gifts, but I have sold quite a few of my pieces as well.  :)

BTW, I have quite a collection of coffee mugs in my kitchen.  Those seem to be my favorite thing to make.  :D

At this point, and since I am raising young kids right now, pottery is just a hobby.  I do have one student who comes over every Sunday for lessons.  I really enjoy teaching the craft to people.  :)

Very good of you to help other people enjoy the hobby you love, Karen. Would you like to get your kids involved in it too?

Very true!  ;)

When you drop a mug, you can make another one.  :D

You don't encourage people to 'accidentally' drop mugs so that you've got a good reason to make another, do you?  ;)  ;D

My kids have dabbled in it a little.  The only thing is that I get stuck picking up all the millions of little bits of clay that get strewn from one end of the garage to the other.  ::) :D

I could, but fortunately I've never dropped one (knock on wood!)...

I went to a second-hand store today to buy some clothes (because I can never find clothes I like in the regular stores), and I bought 9 pairs of pants, 7 shirts, 3 dresses and 2 jackets for $109.00

AND I decided to take my chances by not trying on ANYTHING in the store... amazingly, when I got home, EVERYTHING fit!  :)

I'll be having an interview with Supportive Employment next week. This is basically what Supportive Employment does:

Supportive Employment works with adults who have suspected or diagnosed mental illness, helping them find and maintain employment of their choice. Supportive Employment job coaches help consumers identify jobs in the community and may work one-on-one with them or work with them in a group setting.

Job Coaches provide intensive training and ongoing follow-along for consumers. Additional services include on-site vocational evaluation, career exploration and vocational skills training.

Supportive Employment tailors its services to individuals' unique needs. Some consumers work one-on-one with a Job Coach to identify and obtain jobs in the community. Other consumers may need more assistance or a more structured environment. These individuals are able to work on Supportive Employment's Mobile Work Crews which provide maintenance and grounds-keeping services for Wake County Parks. Individuals may also work in one of two coffee shops called The Daily Grind which are operated by Wake County Human Services and which are located in two Human Services Centers.

My son, whom I should call "piglet", has decided that formula and the breast isn't enough for him. We fed him pureed bananas tonight and he loved them.

He's only six and a half weeks old...he's growing up too fast. :P

Oh yeah, he's also almost outgrown the size 1 Pampers. And (here we go with the proud parent thing) he laughs and smiles a lot and makes the cutest little noises like he's talking to his stuffed animals. He also loves just being in a diaper and he enjoys taking baths. He examines his feet while sitting in his little bathtub. It's really cute. I'm going to have to get a picture of him doing that. Of course if I decide to post a pic like that, I'll have to block out his naughty bits or be accused of being a pedophile. ::)
