Heh heh... Some local controversy.
The Picksburgh Police decided to have 'community participation' by having civilians be part of the job interview process for new cops. However, officials got a little suspicious when they noticed that one of the 'interviewers' was wearing an electronic monitoring ankle bracelet. :o ;D Turns out back in 2009 she was caught shooting at some other lady in the presence of children, pled guilty, and is still on probation. :-X (She's also a cousin of the Assistant Police Chief and was also previously convicted of credit card theft and receiving stolen goods).
So they threw her out of the program. Local figures are, naturally expressing their displeasure with her banishment. Said her pastor, "It is frustrating. This was an opportunity for us to get involved in the system and make it better". Indeed, who knows what to look for in a new cop better than a recently convicted weapons felon who is still on probation? Good call, Reverend.
However I do think the cops went a bit overboard; because of bracelet-lady, they got rid of ALL the civilian participants. That part does not make much sense. There has been civilian participating in police job interviews for years...
