After all, the world has to save the protesters.

So one wonders... why isn't anybody jumping at the chance to bomb the hell out of Syria?

They're too worried that Leslie Nielsen'll turn up there, and someone'll say "Surely, these problems aren't Syria's"

We thought about it when we invaded Iraq.

That area (Iraq, Syria, Egypt, etc.) is just fudgeed-up and won't accept change!

Funny you should mention them!  Syria was, after all, widely rumored to be next in line after we won in Iraq, except that we didn't win in Iraq.

But the real reason we're not jumping at the chance is because Israel's been there and done that.  Despite his initial skepticism, the Arms Control Wonk - who provided (and still provides) the Internet's best coverage on nonproliferation issues - even he changed his mind.

Just because Stuxnet proved that nonproliferation could be pretty elegant, doesn't mean that it has to be either pretty or elegant.  In the case of the Box on the Euphrates, it was neither pretty nor elegant, but it got the job done before the reactor got fired up and spared the region a Fukushima-level mess.  (To Syria's credit, when the cops lit 'em up, they knew they'd been caught glowing-blue-handed and at least they had the honor to pull over and pay the fine without resisting arrest :)

With a few years' hindsight, yes, it turned out to be pretty much that.  Remember back in 2003, all those trucks heading from Iraq to Syria?  And all that talk about what the North Koreans were doing with Iraq to raise money for their failing empire  Funny thing, it turned out to be more North Korean/Syrian than Iraqi.

tl;dr: the reason we aren't bombing Syria is because we no longer have to.  The Israelis took out Syria's reactor before it became a threat, and they did it without any big PR kerfuffle.  Oh, and Iran?  Don't get cocky.
