Seems one Alan Gross was dispatched to Cuba by the United States Agency for International Development on a "democracy building" project, ostensibly to arrnage for internet connections for Jewish people.

Fidel's boys took issue with this and arrested him.  He is now convicted of  "acts against the independence and territorial integrity of the state (of Cuba)" and got a 15-year sentence.  This of course raises questions in my mind:


What did Mr. Gross expect to happen when he went to set up internet connections in relationship to a democracy-building project in totalitarian Cuba?
What business does the United States have in targeting Jews (or any religious group) in Cuba?


This is another case of an American individual intentionally doing ill-advised things in a totalitarian state, and then whining for help when the predictable happens.  And it is yet another case of the American government funding things that it has no business funding. The total Jewish population of Cuba is about 500-1200 people.  So we send this s.c.h.m.u.c.k. down there and cause an international incident?  Makes no sense.

My guess is that some politician on Capitol Hill owed some Jewish campaign donors a few favors, and broke off a piece of Federal funds to finance this project, once he found somebody stupid enough to carry it out.

Once again... it is time for the People of the United States to take control of government finances, at the ballot box.  >:(

Mr. Gross is in his mildew cell watching cockroaches crawl across the rat-gnawed mattress and thinking, "Hmmm...strange how easy it was to get that job!"
