Subject: Secrecy

Written By: Don Carlos on 07/03/04 at 5:15 pm

The Bush administration has tried to prevent the public release of information ranging from Chaney's energy task force to documents relating to 9/11.  Yet, in defending the intrusive aspects of the PATRIOT Act (such as gov't access to our library and book purchase records) they claim that "if you have nothing to hide..."  Do I detect a bit (or should I say a chunk, a truck load, tons?) of hypocracy here?  Why, for example, was Mr Bush's pre 1974 Texas driving record (which also contained his criminal record) expunged?  Why are the Security and Exchange agency's records of his Harken Energy stock sales not available through the Freedom of Information act?  If the innocent have nothing to hide, why is this administration hiding SOOOOO much?  Anbd if democracy depends on the will of an INFORMED electorate...

Could there be skeletons in the closet?

Opinions?

Just so I'm clear, you're not using skeleton as a euphamism for something else, you actually mean a skull and bones, right?  ;)

(sorry, couldn't resist!)

What YOU do is the government's business.  What the GOVERNMENT does is none of YOUR business.  So butt out.  That clear?

OK, he didn't really say that, but that's what he's getting at.  Why does Bush keep so many secrets about him and his father?  Becasue the American people tolerate it.

Don't appologize, this is priceless.

Unfortunately, too many of our political leaders are affiliated with this and other seret societies.  JF Kerry is also a Bonesman, which does give me pose.  I guess if an IWW were running and had a chance....
