The doctor's aren't sure if she has anorexia or bulemia. But if you've seen her spiny back in rag magazines, she probably has some kind of health problem. Should news like this stay out of the public eye? Should the Olsen family have the same right of privacy as other celebrities or Americans? I believe that eating disorders should be brought in the open, since it is a serious problem and Mary Kate could become a role model if she recovers. But neither the twins or the disorder should be exploited by heartless paparrazzi and writers.

Update to include opinions on a story in American Media that cocaine was found in Mary Kate's purse and she's actually at a rehab clinic.

Well Don, I believe it's sort of both. It's mostly a thread on eating disorders and invasion of privacy, and it's a sore spot for many suffering from either or. But they are also celebs, so you do have a point.

I think it's a good thing that she went public with this. She's admitting she has a problem and I think it's good for young girls to see that it isn't normal to be that skinny.

Now a story has come out in The Star, I think it is (not that I believe what the gossip mazazines say) that she is really being treated for cocaine addiction.  Her parents are bringing suit against The Star.  Even if this is the case, they should leave the girl alone and let her be treated for whatever her condition is without all the prying eyes of the media, IMHO.

Certainly these folks can afford whatever heath care they need to deal with this problem.  What about the countless kids in the indusrial world who have this and related problems but no health insurance?  Or more importantly, those millions of kids who have an eating disorder called STAR-VA-TION?  I have no animosity toward Mary Kate, but "frankly Scarlet..."

Of course you are right.  There is/was (?) a Brazilian Bishop named Camilo Helder who said "When I gave food to the poor they called me a saint.  When I asked why the poor have no food they called me a communist."  Like him, I think that the corpoatization of food is the root cause of world hungar.  I would also agree that government policies also contribute, and our Gov't is among them.  Subsidies for our cotton farmers, now under investigation by the WTO, make it difficult, if not impossible, for third world cotton farmers to compete, reducing their income, and making it hard to feed their families.  World hungar is a complex problem, but the problem definately is not a scarcity of food.

It's just sad that a fledgeling celeb rag has to resort to sensationalized stories to sell their magazine. I'm not the biggest Olsens fan, but I really despise what a lot of reporters do to fan the flames of bad behavior. It doesn't matter now whether they retract the story or not.
