I can't believe how insensitive these on-air punks are getting.

I can only take so much of those morning DJs. It's too early in the morning to hear people try to be funny.
But there are many people I work with who love to start their day with Bob and Tom. ::)
When I lived in Nashville I used to catch Tom Joyner every morning. I always found him easy to listen to while I sat in my daily I40 traffic jam.
;)

I stopped listening to Bob and Tom a decade ago. It hurts that these guys work in Indy and are still luring listeners with "gallows humor". In fact, I would stop listening to morning radio altogether if not for the weather and traffic reports. I tune in the sports radio now. 8)

I too quit listening to Bob and Tom a few years ago. Not because I objected to their content, but mostly because I just got bored with them. But thinking back to what I did hear from their show, it seemed very tame compared to a lot of other things on the air.

The radio biz loves these semi-pornographic knuckle-draggers whose modus operandi is hurting other people. Radio shock jocks denigrate women, minorities, liberals, gays, and disadvantaged people day in and day out. Every effort is to glorify the straight white male with plenty of money to spend. It's only when they crack an ugly joke about the wrong media luminary that they get in trouble. As the folks back home say, what do you expect from a pig but a grunt? Managers want these guys to be total a-holes, EXCEPT when it comes to a James Bird or a Nick Berg. The problem isn't one joke, the problem is the bigoted culture of shock jock radio.

These guys sound like a couple of real d*ckheads. This story sounds an awful lot like the Greaseman controversy several years back. For those of you who don't know, the Greaseman was a Washington, D.C. based "shock jock" who, I admit I liked listening to when I was out on the East Coast while I was driving cross-country. Anyway, not long after the horrific killing of James Byrd (the black man down in Texas who was dragged to death behind a pickup driven by 2 or 3 'necks), the Greaseman played a Lauren Hill song and apparently he didn't like it, so this idiot remarks, "No wonder they drag them behind trucks." He was fired immediately after that. Incredibly, this guy is back on the air. Unfortunately, these two knuckleheads most likely will be too. (And yet the feds are more concerned about Howard Stern, go figure...)

Thanks Al-B, I was trying to remember the guy's name. Greaseman's slur on Lauren Hill regarding James Byrd (not Bird).

It is unfortunate that a shock jock can be fired for certain bigoted comments, but they can be employed in another state just like doctor's who commit several acts of malpractice. I'm just glad we can still turn to another station, unlike Irais being forced to tune in to al Jazeera.

Yeah, but thanks to Clear Channel pretty much all the stations are the same anyway.

Not all radio channels are owned by Clear Channel. You'll find other companies that are working to clean up their stations. Clear Channel is strictly for profit. :(

Indy Gent has a point. One of our Clear Channel stations just got bought out by a local company...I thought I would never see a Clear Channel station go out of business.

Marconi and his partner Tiny were known for crude jokes and had been reprimanded before, but the station deemed their "edgy" humor necessary to reach young adult listeners.
I don't call joking about a beheading 'edgy'. If you need to be edgy to reach an audience then society is pretty messed up. How about playing some music. Is radio turning into M.T.V.? I'm not politically correct but this is just stupid.

While I have to say that Mr. berg was an adventure-hound who died as a result of his foolish travels through a known war zone and hotbed of terrorist activity, these "Disc Jockeys" were being complete dirt-bags by having the broadcast that they did.
Despite the fact that Berg set himself up for trouble, the broadcast was being disrespectful of his family and friends. And that is simply wrong. >:(
Please do not interpret this posting as some sort of support for what happened to Berg, for it is not. The killing was terrible, and the terrorists who do this should be punished... severely. But I am tired of all the sentimental talk that seems to make Berg look like some sort of innocent lamb who the military should have protected. He entered a war zone, uninvited, and was advised to get out. Even offered a flight out and instead he turned it down. He was neither invited to Iraq by the military nor one of its contractors. Our forces in Iraq have enough to deal with, and should not be worrying about protecting foolish people who play Indiana Jones. :-\\
Now... let's nab the suckers who did this and give them a public, Biblical execution, just like the Saudis do. >:(

I've been thinking about that for a while, and have heard a lot of others both in perosn and on TV/radio, etc. saying the same thing.
I would say neraly 90% of the people I have either talked to about it in person, or have heard talking about in on TV/Radio thought (and still think) he was there as an inlisted soldier and was captured in combat. Thats not how it was at all. He went back to Iraq alone, on his own terms, because he wanted to. Many people don't realize that. Indiana Jones is a good term for it.
I admire his spirit, however, I can't help thinking it was a very foolish move.
And after thinking about it, I have to say I agree with you.

I also agree with this. He had no business being there but that didn't give those dj's the right to do what they did. I'm happy they were fired.

I've been trying to find information about Nick Berg and his reasons for being in Iraq.
There are so many stories out there that it's impossible to know which one is the truth. There are people saying that the whole thing was staged by the U.S government, that he was just a reckless adventurer trying to be a modern day Indiana Jones, a humanitarian who was there to help the people of Iraq. I think i've stumbled accross every scenario you can think of just trying to get a little truth.
Instead of finding the truth I just find a bunch of reporters (and I use that term loosely) who seem to have no interest in telling the true story as much as telling the story the way they want you to hear it.
It's disgusting.

I would like to take a moment of silence... in Nick Berg's honor. My heart goes out to the family. :\'(
