excellent choice Mr Eno. When in Napa, you must do some wine tasting at the many wineries there. It is about 50 miles from me and gorgeous country, and some of the older wineries are quite historic and beautiful.

Okies..Alex did you know despite Peter Green's well publicised mental illness and his subsequent withdrawal from public life, he has recently been trying to make a comeback and has appeared several times in small gigs up in the North of England - mainly in small bars and such, but by all accounts he's gone quiet again.  It's a real shame he gets unwell like that - it robs your life.  :( :(

I'm not saying its something that could have been avoided.  I'm just sayin', Buckingham and Nicks changed the sound of the band to something lighter.  And like any of my high school friends will attest to, I'm a music snob til the end. ;D

No problem, I don't have much experience of Fleetwoods music to be honest - I only have Rumours and umm another :-was Fleetwood Mac.

Yeah, the Fleetwood Mac that emerged from John Mayall's Bluesbreakers was cool - and the merging of Buckingham Nicks with Fleetwood Mac changed the band. Seriously, though, both pre-and-post-merge periods produced some quality work. There's a big difference between saying that you prefer the material from one period, or even you don't like any of the material of one period, and saying that one period represented the ruining of the band. Regardless of your taste, I think it's quite safe to say that time has proven, and continues to prove, that the band was never "ruined." Whether you prefer Peter Green, Bob Welch, Stevie Nicks, Christine McVie, or anyone else on vocals, you can't deny that each had something going for him/her.

Personally, I think music snobbery tends to hurt the overall listening experience. I love learning about the music as much as anyone, and I'll be the first to spout, read, or listen to random facts about it, but, in the end, the major part of it is the music itself. Approach every song with a clean slate and you get a real... I dunno... a vibe. Can't explain exactly what I mean, but the vibe is what makes music (and the arts in general) so rewarding.

There's nothing wrong with top 40, or pop hits and i don't mind a little fluff. However when you disparage FM or Stevie Nicks  then I will be as condescending as you are Alex.  I'm not saying the original FM aren't important , but the combo of Mac,  McVie, Buckingham, and Nicks is what i enjoyed first hand when the music was first released and it had an impact and everyone I knew enjoyed them on LP and our 8-tracks. i saw them live in the early 70's, awesome show, ended up in a riot with rubber bullets and tear gas, and their music was good enough for my simple tastes. They took a different direction into pop-rock genre, but there's no need to depreciate that. You like what you like and I like what I like, and thats the way it is. and I didn't mean that thing about the 90's music, you're a classic rocker thru and thru. I just had better not see a 98degrees poster on your wall.  ;D

Just want to put my 2 cents on FM/ Peter Green. Peter Green was in Sydney around 2 to 3 years ago, and I went to his concert. The most famous single from their classic line-up was 'Albatross', but the song I was yelling out for was 'Green Manalishi'. If you don't know it, and have limewire, do yourself a favour and get it. It has a menacing intro, and a great psychedelic ending. Anyway, he did all those songs (very competently) to a very appreciative full house. Afterwards people queued up to get him to sign the latest CD etc; I joined the line just to offer to shake his hand. He declined. I didn't take it personally when one of his minders commented that he doesn't shake any fans hands. I was actually struck by how those great guitar playing hands looked so ghostly white and flabby, almost like a 'wax-work'/ like a 'dead-mans' that have gone limp/ lost all the blood .It was obvious to me he felt awkward dealing with the public on a one-to-one basis, and my friend who'd gone along reckoned the drugs had made him somewhat withdrawn.

As far as I'm concerned, the music style between the Peter Green line up vs the latter one with Stevie Nicks,  is such a contrast, that they are essentially  2 different bands with the same name. For that reason, it's almost pointless comparing them. They both had very good, enjoyable music. I guess some would argue that if you're going to change your style to that degree, you should rename yourselves, rather than trying to cash in on an established name, and dilute (for some) the 'cred' they've built up with you. Some people feel that way about Gensesis post Gabriel/Hackett (a-ha, my chance to start another argument........       ;) ).

As for Stevie Nicks looks, well, certainly if I could've had her in her heyday, I don' t reckon I'd've kicked her out of bed .. . except to make my breakfast in the morning.... ;D
that's a fair and balanced view and I don't think it could be said any better than you and windbreaker05 have done. I would have liked to have been at that concert. I recommend the live shows to all just to enjoy that dynamic. seeing Stevie Nicks spin and swing that black shawl and those lacy sleeves has a mystical effect that captivates me. she's still got it
