I don't frequent the board anymore, but this comes as a bit of a shock, if not a surprised. She was like a bristly comb - I mean, I admire her for alot of things, but she was so confrontational and attacked you with little or no provocation (I have to admit I did enjoy a few of the Blues we had). But the board won't be the same without her. And 35,000 posts in just over a year is a mighty fine effort. She snapped at me often - but I'd probably rather her than anyone else, lol. Here's to you, Yankees Girl...

what Tam said.  she's been warned more times than I care to admit.  she ran out of second chances. 

If people are deleting their accounts in protest or something, it's not going to have any effect on how I run things here or reverse any decision. No single person has generated more complaints or required more time being warned than Beth in the entire history of the site.

Oh, that's just juvenile and mean-spirited. I didn't know that (then again I didn't read everything, so I might've been more in the dark about some of what went on). I guess the problem with her nuggets of truth and good points were how poorly she executed them.

Trust me, her banning was justified a year ago (not November, more like April '06).  I've asked her several times to stop, the lead mods have, etc.  It was by no means a single complaint.

As for others crossing the line occasionally, well, they must not be doing it in such a way that anyone is upset or notices.

One thing about her was that she often cheated on penguin quizzes which made it unfair for people who actually knew some of the answers that she googled to get.  Often when I had a quiz ready made, I would wait to post it when I saw a wider range of members online so they would get a fair chance before she got there

The problem with bans like this one, is people don't see the same pattern of abuse that moderators do.  If you're not seeing the deleted posts, or the posts that weren't heavily edited, people get upset and begin thinking it was for some other reason, like her personality or something.

I've banned a few other high profile people before you showed up WD, seems like it happens every 18 months or so.  The board has survived.

Sorry for letting people know why she was deleted. I guess I should just say nothing and let people think the mods are secretly trying to figure out someone to ban for no good reason or something.

That person sort of basically left on their own will, because of the way they were being treated by the moderators.  The kinds of things that Beth got banned for doing, was being done over there by the moderators, and nothing was ever done about it, so lots of members left the boards in protest, and the place never recovered

But it can go too far sometimes.  It's all about discriminating a situation when it's appropriate and when it's not. Keep in mind, there could be 10-year old kids, grandmas, people at work, or just generally conservative folks reading this board too.

I'm not suggesting every piece of discussion and every word we say has to bow to what might offend someone, but it's just something we should kinda think about.

As a fellow member, I have seen both first-hand and as a bystander how her abrasive, harsh "kiss-my-ass-or-I-will-be-your-hatemonger" attitude has driven some VERY good people away.
Her harassing and baiting has resulted in at least one ban of a member who wouldn't be in this mess, if it wasn't for her.

I stand behind Chucky's decision.

I do have a few suggestions for you though, simply for future encounters with others. Maybe you wanna tone it down a bit. I'd like to think I'm a reasonably literate individual but often when you say things it comes across as very condescending. Now if you say that's not the case, fair enough, I'm inclined to agree or disagree, but I'd go ahead and at least contemplate useing 'user-friendly language' as it were.

I've seen Beth.. and others have a go at you, I've also seen you give as good as you get.. which again is fair enough, I have no issue with that whatsoever, could care less what people say to each other but when you dig down there are then want to be kind of holier than thou it presents a poor and fairly pretentious image.

Having known Mike personally for some time now I'd agree with that statement. Hell, he puts up with me when I go out of my way to present him with idealogical pissing matches, he just dislikes lopsided standards.

I maintain that there are some lopsided standards.. now, nothing can be done about it now.. so, whatever, but just looking at things I've said.. and hell, things Mike, Howard and the other Andrew have said, I kind of doubt Beth is even capable of verbage as repulsive as ours.

On the Beth issue - like I said, if she got on people's case and broke the rules in other ways, I don't support that. But in a sense I will miss her and certainly don't dislike her personally. She had her good qualities even if she came off kinda rough sometimes.

Yeah I agree. The one thing she and I actually agreed on was our opinions of Barry Bonds. And she actually did say a few kind things to me now and then. But, most of the time, it was one cold post after another.

Davey - Did I see everything that she did wrong? No, I didn't. But that's what happens when there are 4 people who can mod anything, and one worked very hard to try and save her whenever they thought she had posted wrong. I do know though that there were a few times that I sent her a pm advising her to change something because it might be misinterpreted. I have done the same thing with you and Al-B, to which both of you agreed and changed them on your own. The thing with SM was that even after being warned, from the editing that occurred daily, she was still doing what she was asked not to do.

To answer other questions that haven't been asked yet - banning someone isn't a quick thought. We talked about the situation on more than one occasion, and speaking for myself, I defended her several times. Unfortunately, this time was beyond help because of the formal warning that she had received and we were all in agreement. Do I feel bad that the mods had to decide to ban her? Of course I do. It isn't fun banning someone. The hardest ban I have had to do was Alex, although he was a lot of trouble on the boards, in general he was a good guy. Banning isn't fun and it actually takes a part of you with it.

I am sure there are more questions, and I will answer them as best I can. If I can't, I am sure another mod can.

There is not one single person behind her banning.  The lead mods have all been in agreement for sometime that it was probably going to happen sooner or later.  She was asked to tone down her behavior, but either couldn't or wouldn't.

If other people are violating the system rules all the time, how come no one sees it or reports it? 

She didn't get banned for speaking her mind.  She got banned for harassing people and stalking certain members. The worse of her offenses usually got deleted or edited by a moderator.

Nothing she did violated any new rules of the site, and nothing in the rules should really be a surprise to anyone.  Most of the rules have been in effect for FIVE years.


I remember that once she did tone down, but it didn't last more than a month, at the most...

Listen, Beth and I clashed personality-wise, but I never saw her do anything I thought rose to a banning.  Of course, I didn't see all her posts.  I don't even visit some of the boards, such as the arcade.  Thus, I'm not second-guessing the mods' decision.  I can assure you I made no complaints about her recently, let alone any suggestions she be banned.  I accepted she was not my favorite person, and I think she accepted I was not her favorite person, and we left it at that!

I am sorry to see Tia and Jessica go.  I think they made snap decisions in anger and I hope the mods will allow them to come back if they wish.  I'll miss them.

I've done that...with a few posts by ex-members who shall remain nameless. When I've come across an "attack" post as of late, I'd decided not to respond to it, figuring that it would add more fuel to the fire if I did. Cuz I don't like to argue with people about anything at all, no matter how trivial the subject may be.

I have heard both sides of the Beth argument.  One thing that I can tell you is that dragging her through the mud is not going to help the situation.  In fact if it is kept up I make no reservations about reinerating the fact that she IS NOT here to defend herself.

Tam, I've witnessed you being a jerk before.  We were all on flash chat and you decided to ban Whistledog from there, then you let him back in 2 minutes later.  Poor Jason was so upset he asked you what he did to deserve it.  You said he didn't do anything and that you were just playing around.  To me  that is being a jerk, to you it may have been playing around.  So at that point in time could I have made an issue about it?  Not only could I have made an issue about you teasing him but about you abusing your powers as a moderator.

I remember. And if you remember the whole thing - Jason had used a curse word that he had been asked not to use - so I never said he didn't do anything or that I was just playing around. I said something to the effect of ....  "Jason!"  he said "what?" I said, "watch this" and banned him. Let him back in and he said "what'd I do?" I said "I told you not to use that word!" he said "I couldn't believe it, all of a sudden it wouldnt let me in the chat and it said I was banned"....

I also remember you laughing right along with the rest of us and that whistle laughed about it to.

Some things I'm seeing here.. god-DAMN, it's way too much drama for an internet forum. Sure, people say hurtful things.. God knows I'm glad I won't have to occasionally deal with Beth's crap anymore.. but is it really that dramatic and life-altering that we have to make grand, ceremonious exits with account deleting? If someone's pissing you off, report them.. if something gets done, it gets done.. if not.. just stop posting for a while, wait for things to cool down.. come back, and get on with it. What does this have to do with anything?  ::) I witnessed this and trust me all this was really just all in good fun, after all Tam and Jason are friends, to insinuate that Tam was being a "jerk" in this particular instance is ridiculous. This is a total non-issue that has nothing to do with anything that happened today.

I was just being immature and saying that to get her riled up. Honestly, I don't hate her as a person or anything, she probably needs to chill out a bit, although I wouldn't want her to change most of her personality. And I don't think she's ugly or anything...what ever, but I hope she at least learns why she was booted. Maybe she'll think about it and decide to return. Though, I somehow doubt that will happen.

While Chucky and Tam have addressed the majority of the issues regarding Beth's ban, there's a few things I want to add.


Speaking your mind is one thing. Locating every new post by a member and responding with something mean directed at them isn't speaking your mind, it's stalking and harassment.

I'm pretty certain that the site has lost several regular members in the past few years due to her behavior.

I'm at fault for having not deleted her account sooner.


I appreciate you taking the blame here, but it's not you who are at fault about this.


I don't have any of it saved, if one of the other moderators does they can send it to you, I have no problem with that.

The big downfall to removing offending material is that people don't see it and can't understand why the person is being banned when the stuff they see from the person is nothing bad enough to seem to warrant a banning.

I didn't want anyone's prior actions to influence my objectivity as a moderator. In the end, she undid herself, even after my warning to her (which was run by the other mods/ChuckyG before I sent it).

I still think it's a shame we banned her (or, if you guys are looking to shoot the messenger, I'm the one who banned her), but as ChuckyG said no other member has been given so many chances before and still not listened.

An observation I've made and perhaps others have noticed is that whenever someone gets banned, there's always members who take the opportunity to throw in some last minute jabs and criticisms. It was done and still is done about Donnie, Alex, and when I first joined, it was RockandRollFan.  I'm a fair & decent guy most of the time, but who knows, maybe there's a member or 2 that if they got banned I may throw in a final dig and say that "they reaped what they sowed. so F*ck em"!

I do think some people over-react (I'm guilty of that myself now and again).  Beth was getting the better of Dude.  He fumed about her to me in a PM.  I urged him to just ignore her, but he'd already departed on his kamikaze mission, so that was that.

Her lack of response had nothing to do with her ban; it was just a note by me. I know had I been sent a similar PM I would have done my best to straighten out or at least ask why I was being sent a PM of that nature.

The same thing with the notorious "Harmonica."  He made death threats to some board members.  I never saw them.  The posts got deleted pretty fast, and so did Harmonica.  Ironically, Harmonica was the most outspoken born again Christian on the board.  Go figure.

I got here just before his first or his final banning. He spoke to me once, asked me if I wanted to go into chat, something I never do. I politely declined, but I remember reading some of his posts and they were way too aggressive and didn't reflect any Christians I know or hang with.  although, I'm probably not the ideal role model either  ;D  but I'm trying

I didn't make my responses yesterday to slam Beth, just to point out that her banning was done for appropriate reasons.

She also didn't get banned for failing to respond to Red Ant's message.  I don't even think she responded to half the warnings I gave her last year, so if that were the reason, she'd have been long gone.

My 2 cents on the recent banning.....we all make mistakes from time to time, but most of us do not rip on people on a daily basis.  When someone asks a simple question or jumps in on innuendo that is going on between 2 or more members and they are rudely rebuffed, that's not acceptable.  Some people make sarcastic comments towards others, but they are not downright cruel and rude.
