The movie, "The Mothman Prophecies" was filmed near Pittsburgh, I believe.
Also.....in our childhood neighborhood, the neighbor's house across the street was used in an opening credit/song for some show on TV...I can't remember the name of the show though....it was not a popular one.

ESPN's "The Season: Iowa's Men of the Mat" Filmed in Iowa City, Iowa.
"Field of Dreams" Diresville, Iowa.
Bridges of Madison Country, somewhere in Madison County, Iowa.
A movie about an old man who's brother or cousin has Cancer. He wants to visit him before he dies, but isn't allowed to drive, because he isn't allowed to have a drivers liscense. So he takes his lawn mower from Iowa to Wisconsin to see his sick relative. Parts of Iowa were in the film.
Iowa's a fairly large State, geographically, nothing in comparison to Alaska or Texas, but it's still pretty large. So as far as extremely close to me, there are a few older films filmed in Ottumwa, Iowa and the home of William Shatner's character Captain Spock is in Riverside, Iowa, which is fairly close as well.
There are more, let me think.....let me think......

Jingle All The Way (1996) with Arnold Schwarzenegger
A Prairie Home Companion (2006-just finished filming) with Meryl Streep
There have been more, but those are all I can think of right now.

Carmel:
Escape to Witch Mountain (1975)
Basic Instinct (1992)
The Parent Trap (1961)
Monterey:
Cannery Row (1982) -This one is a given. ;D
Leave Her To Heaven (1945)
Monterey Pop (1968)
Star Trek IV: The Voyage Home (1986)
Tortilla Flat (1942)
Moss Landing:
Turner & Hooch (1989)
Salinas:
East of Eden (1955) -This one is also a given. I sort of live in Steinbeck country. :)

Being that I live in California, a HUGE amount of films have been filmed here - so, being that that's a given, let me think of the real, real local ones:
Nine Months  (1995) - filmed in parts of Pittsburg, Antioch & Brentwood (movie was actually set in San Francisco, but they used a hospital in Pittsburg that had been shut down recently; I think there's a scene that they crash into a winery- well, that winery was in Brentwood.)
Jack Nicholson's first film - The Wild Ride (1960) filmed entirely on location in Concord and Clayton, California. Even local Concord cops got parts in the film.
There are probably more, but I can't think of all of them just yet.

Lots of stuff.
Savannah Smiles was filmed here. The scene where she runs away was in a park I used to go to with my grandma all the time. A couple of blocks from her house.
The Stand was filmed here. So was Touched By An Angel. I know there are more but I can't think right now. I haven't had my coffee yet.

Ironically, despite living in the Bay Area, I don't know specifically of any movie or TV show filmed in San Jose. I'd love it if there were, though - especially the suburban areas toward Campbell. :)
Tons were in San Francisco (too many to name) and that's about 45 miles north of me. Would that count?

Me, Myself, and Irene was filmed a bit north of here.
There was a movie I have only seen on Mystery Science Theater 3000 called Time Chasers (yeah, that shows you that it was a "wonderful" flick ::) ) that was filmed around here. In fact, I know many of the places and the the main character was supposed to work at the same college that Carlos works.
The movie Nobody's Fool wasn't filmed around here but it was filmed where I used to live. In fact, one scene where Paul Newman goes up to his friend and they sit on a front porch-that front porch was the home of my high school sweetheart. His mother (who I still keep in touch with) told me about it when they were filming and she got to meet the entire cast.

that's really cool! I guess whenever they were filming "The Mothman Prophecies" here in Pittsburgh....a little girl of a guy that we know really wanted to meet Richard Gere. She stood around down there near the filming and waited and waited. I guess Richard Gere had to leave, but he made a point of telling her dad that he would come back to visit her...and he did! I thought that was a very nice gesture on his part....and, man, would I have loved to have met him!! ;)

As a matter of fact...a number of things have.
To start with, the Rodney King beating (early 1991) occurred less than a mile from where I was living at the time. :-[ That does count as something that was filmed, since the tape of it was shown numerous times on TV during the trial the following year.
A few years later, some movie was filmed at the shopping center across the street from my mobile home park.
And more recently...
Little did I know at the time, but a scene from "Legally Blonde 2" was filmed at Cal State University Northridge. :D The building in which Elle Woods' dog, Bruiser, was being treated is really the "Manzanita Hall", a building that mostly contains classrooms.
And the movie "Sky High" was filmed at CSUN as well, by the Oviatt Library, just last year. I actually saw a portion of the filming, while guards denied access to the library so that the filming could be uninterrupted.

Uh... I don't know if anybody knows of them, but the CKY series is filmed around here, along with Viva La Bam, because the Margeras are from around here. Chris Raab (Raab Himself)'s parents are supposed to live near the university in town here. Also, CKY the band has a song about Shippensburg.
Really? Hm, didn't know that. I remember you saying that one time, but I musta forgot. Cool.

Sounds cool, Chrissy - I'll check it out. For the record, I nearly fell out of my chair when I read this (in a good way!). :)
I've seen pictures of the mall before. Offhand, the only difference today is the JC Penney's behind Doc has been replaced (I forget with what though). Other than new logo's and stuff, the mall would look the same in 2005 as 1985.
(Although I bet by 2005 in their universe, it must've had some expansions - maybe it was multi level, so by 2015 there might be a parking garage for hovercars?)
^ Okay I'm rambling now. ;D

And there have been a few WWF Wrestlemanias that were pay-per-views from the boardwalk Convention Hall...as was a WWF Slammys...I forget which years,I know it was in the late 1980's for the Wrestlemanias..
And until recently the Miss America Pageant (the finals) was televised from Atlantic City...

To add: I'm sure a lot of TV shows have been filmed near me, since the WB Studios in Burbank are less than 100 miles from me. In fact, I went there with my family and a friend of mine and his family one time about 10 years ago to see the filming of one episode of "Step By Step." It's the episode where Frank visits an old girlfriend of his, and Cody tries to control how often he says the word "dude" (everytime he says it, he gets zapped by Dana). It was filmed the evening of January 20, 1995, and it originally aired on March 17, 1995. :)

I don't know why I didn't think of this earlier... but the movie E.T. was filmed in the north part of Los Angeles; actually the north San Fernando Valley, which is still a part of L.A.
The house where Elliot and his family lived, is an actual dwelling located in Tujunga, a suburb of Los Angeles.
A few of the "chase" scenes (towards the end of the movie) were filmed in Porter Ranch (a couple miles or so north of Northridge)... and the scene where Elliott and his friends (on their bikes) all lift up in the air to escape the authorities, was filmed on a street in Granada Hills (near Northridge) that I've actually been down several times!

It is located at an intersection in Granada Hills that I have seen in person hundreds (maybe even thousands) of times! Where I grew up, part of Silence of the Lambs was filmed there (even though in the film they said it was West Virginia, it was actually Ohio).
Also Gung Ho was partly filmed near the town too.
Now I live in Pittsburgh where oodles of films are made.
Oh and Oprah once did a show in my high school auditorium. I had to work, so I couldn't go to the show. It was all about the high rate of unemployment in our area. Her show really didn't do much in the way of helping the job rate in our area, only a casino came down and had a job fair to have some of our residents move up to Atlantic City, New Jersey and work.

I thought one scene of Silver Streak was filmed at the Niles train station, but all I can find is this:
Amtrak uses the old Michigan Central station; the current structure was built in 1892 and is listed on the National Register of Historic Places. Scenes in films such as Continental Divide, Midnight Run and Only the Lonely were shot here.
The movie "Prancer" was shot (at least some of it) in Three Rivers, Michigan.
I heard on the local news that there were some movies shot in Traverse City, MI and Grand Rapids, MI, but it's been a while, so I can't come through with actual titles. Wish I had paid more attention now!!!

Here's a list of a few in the Tampa Bay area:
"Cocoon," is the most popular movie made in Tampa Bay, according to Tampa Bay Business Journal readers.
There's also "Summer Rental" with John Candy, "Ocean's Eleven" with George Clooney and even "Lethal Weapon 3," which gave the former Sereno Hotel in St. Petersburg a cameo demolition.
The Punisher made Tampa look good, when light enough-- action and a lot of good Tampa shots.
The "'My Girl" house is in Bartow, FL.
Parts of "Edward Scissorhands" was filmed on location in Lakeland of the vintage '50s-'60s shopping center.
"Silver Moon" with Ed Harris and Madeline Stowe.
As far as pure local films ... written, shot and produced here ... "Descansos."
I also noted on some thread somewhere awhile back that a friend and I were uncredited extra reporters in a scene of "Armageddon", filmed at the Kennedy Space Center, over in Cocoa, FL, on the East coast of FL.
Over in Orlando there has been a lot more filming: They blew up the old Court House downtown in the one of the 1st scenes of Lethal Weapon 3. Then they built the new one after. Perfect.
They were filming the Ace Ventura Pet Detective Jr movie at Universal Studios while we were there-tons of it was filmed in the Jurassic Park portion of the park.
Jurassic Park 3 had scenes filmed at Universal too.
I know there are a lot more, but this is long enough. :)

Jeff I don't know how you missed this... unless you haven't seen little miss sunshine... in the film the when the family is traveling to "Redondo Beach" (or whereever they were going for the pageant) the bridge they film when they first see the hotel... and the hotel are actually located in Ventura CA which is close to where Jeff and I live but closer to Jeff than to me...
When I lived in Stockton parts of The Sure Thing were filmed at UOP
When I lived in Salinas Turner and Hooch was filmed in Monterey
Sideways was filmed in the near me
and well our substation was used as an exterior shot in an episode of the Mentalist
and a UCSB campus map was used in a shot of Medical Investigation (it was used to represent some university in the East Coast... this makes me think someone on the production staff is also UCSB Alumni!) 8)
oh and this is doesn't quite fit but its totally random and weird! anyone remember Sante & Kenny Kimes? they were mother & son murder team? Kenny lived in Santa Barbara and rented a room from one of my co-workers. When lifetime made a tV movie about the team (it was kind of lame) they actually inserted my co-worker (as a character - not the man) into the film. They used my co-worker's name and gave his 'character a couple of lines.... funny thing tho.. he (my co-worker) had no idea he was being portrayed in this film...someone forgot to get his permission or, perhaps because he signed a release when he was interviewed by Dateline or 48 hours or whatever he gave up those rights because they essentially pulled his lines from that interview...

I also found out that the same house was used in a scene from the 2000 movie Charlie's Angels (which I've never seen), which also starred Drew Barrymore! Her character wasn't living there, though.
I did, however, get a chance to finally see this movie last month, and I kept watching for the scene in which she landed (albeit nude) in the backyard of ET's house. I described what was going on there in the "Inside Jokes" thread in More Than A Decade.

Yes, I know of a couple of them...including one that goes over Highway 101 just before the California Street exit. :)

I don't remember the name of the film, but a horror movie was shot a few years ago in a rather creepy house in my city.

I don't know when filming will start, but there is soon to be a big Denzel Washington film (about a runaway train) to be filmed in the town where I grew up (total population less then 5,000 people.) So it's big news! Just read it in the online television station news webpage thing.

Connecticut is used as a film location. I can't recall anything specific though.
I looked up Haunting in Connecticut but apparently that was filmed in Canada.

There is series on the BBC called New Tricks and that is filmed in west London, I am always watching out for them, I found and seen the Base, but never the locations at the time of filming. Watching on tv, I do recognise the locations used.

Was told by my boss today that a movie producer visited the plant where I work to check the place out. Word is that a scene/scenes from a Clint Eastwood directed movie called "Hereafter" may be shot there. They were looking for an industrial-type setting in an old-style building (C&H's main structure was built in the late 1800s and expanded in the early 1900s)...
The film is to star Matt Damon and his scene in the plant is to involve him driving a forklift...
Alll I can find about the movie is this - http://www.variety.com/article/VR1117995852.html?categoryid=13&cs=1
"...it is described as in the vein of "The Sixth Sense."
Pass...

Several scenes from the movie Speed were filmed on highways and other public works facilities that are quite familiar to me. At one point in the film, the I-105 Freeway is mentioned. At the time the movie was filmed, said freeway was under construction and almost finished, but not quite open to the public as of yet. However, the city of Los Angeles gave the filming crews permission to use the highway for the needed scenes. There is also a scene at LAX, an airport which I've been to a few times (most recently in 2002); however, one particular airport scene was actually filmed several dozen miles north, in Mojave.

Various episodes of the TV drama show "CHiPs" were also filmed in areas that are quite familiar to me. In fact, one particular freeway interchange, where I-210 meets highway 118 (which was built a few years before I was born, but not opened to the public until shortly after I was born) was used for a number of highway scenes in several episodes. I used to live very close to there; I know that interchange like the back of my hand, as I traveled on it thousands of times (mostly during the first 20+ years of my life).

I don't know if I ever mentioned it (and I'm not going back to look :P )
But the friend I stay with in Burbank sometimes lives just a couple blocks away from the Arnold house from The Wonder Years. I drive by it often.
