Subject: need movie ratings

Our company has published some pioneering studies in popular culture, social mood trends, and the stock market.
As a follow-up to one of our studies, our department is doing some further research on movies. In particular, we want to be able to chart the popularity of movies by types for as far back as we can obtain data. For example, horror movies descended upon the American scene in 1930-33, the years the Dow Jones Industrials collapsed, with a resurgence of slice-and-dice horror in the 70s. While there were remakes of the old Dracula and Frankenstein stories, we just weren’t afraid of them anymore. Hollywood had to really horrify us to satisfy us: “An army of dead-but-moving flesh-eating zombies devouring every living person in sight was a fitting allegory for the new horror of the day...”* (Night of the Living Dead), and “The bloody slasher-on-the-loose movies were shocking versions of the ‘30s monster shows...”* (The Texas Chain Saw Massacre).
Therefore, what I’m looking for is something like a monthly list (or even a yearly list and as long as we can determine when it peaked in popularity and by what standard of measurement) of movie releases for as far back in number of years as we can obtain. That’s not asking a lot, is it???
I apologize for being so verbose, but it’s a fascinating subject, and I guess you can tell I’m passionate about it. But ANY assistance whatsoever anyone can provide would be greatly appreciated.
