It's hard to find a rare 80's song, but it's a 10 times harder to find a rare 80's video: make that 50 times if it's an 80's r&b/soul/funk or adult-contemporary/soft-rock video. There are ways to get it on the internet, but i'll leave that for another posting.

Aj, I read that you have some of the videos I'm looking for, please e-mail me if you ever read this message, i have lots of 80's videos to trade.

Here are some of the videos I'm looking for:

James Ingram & Patti Austin - How do you keep the music
playing (from the movie "Best Friends", one of the best slow jams ever made), Baby come to me

james ingram - just once, one hundred ways

colonel abrams - trapped, not gonna let (you get the best of me)

Kenny Loggins - Heart To Heart (a complete version, i have one that have a few seconds missing)

boz scaggs - look what you done to me

stanley clarke/george duke - sweet baby

paul anka & peter cetera - hold me 'til the morning come

jermaine jackson - lonely won't leave me alone & let me tickle your fancy.

midnight starr - midas touch, don't rock the boat, slow jam, night rider

kashif - are you the woman (i think i have this video)

tease - firestarter

stacy lattisaw - pretty much anything from here (let me take you down, perfect combination (another beautiful slow jam), million dollar babe, etc.)

bernard wright - who do you love

chico debarge - talk to me

prince - partyman, hot thing

gino vanelli (one of the best singers) - living inside myself (i don't think he ever did a video for this song, what a shame)

glen frey - the one you love

christopher cross - think of laura, sailing (i barely remember seeing a promo for this vide).

al jarreau - breakin' away (was there ever a video for this song), morning (i think i have a video for this song)

In the 8 months that I've been getting VH-1 Classic now, I've seen the following videos off your list aired on there, and in some cases, multiple times:

"How Do You Keep the Music Playing" - JAMES INGRAM & PATTI AUSTIN
"Heart to Heart" - KENNY LOGGINS
"Look What You've Done to Me" - BOZ SCAGGS (also "Breakdown Dead Ahead" and "JoJo"!)
"Midas Touch" - MIDNIGHT STAR
"Talk to Me" - CHICO DeBARGE
"Black Cars" - GINO VANNELLI (you mentioned this one on the '80s board)
"The One You Love" - GLENN FREY

BTW, there was no video made for "Think of Laura" by Christopher Cross...

Besides the Andy Taylor hit from the Summer of '86, the only other pop, adult contemporary, or soul/r&b hits from the '70s or '80s w/ the title "Take it Easy" was the one by the Eagles from the Summer of '72, and "Take it Easy on Me" by Little River Band, from the Winter of '82. Otherwise, the song you're looking for most likely had a different title...

I agree that it's much tougher to find videos by soul/r&b and adult contemporary artists, especially those from the early to mid '80s! In the soul/r&b category, I highly recommend a pre-recorded VHS video compilation that was released here in the U.S. in 1984 titled "Kool Street Videos"! It contains 15 original early '80s production videos by the likes of Earth, Wind & Fire ("Let's Groove"), Stephanie Mills ("Pilot Error"), Shalamar ("A Night to Remember" and "Dead Giveaway"), Midnight Star ("Freak-a-Zoid"), Ray Parker, Jr. ("The Other Woman"), Whispers ("In the Raw"), Rick James ("She Blew My Mind "), and others. Unfortunately, it's long out-of-print... :(

Sorry, don't know whatever happened to Aj? ??? He was a semi-regular here back in the days of the old board. It's probably been close to two years now since he last posted here...

DeBarge - Who's Holding Donna Now, All This Love, You Wear It Well, Time Will Reveal (I know they never really made an acutal video for this song, a live performance will do).

Leon Haywood - Tenderoni

Doobie Brothers - What A Fool Believe (There was an actual video for this song, it just had the group singing in front of a black background, i remember seeing this on a special).

Shalamar - Over and over

10db - I Second That Emotion

Peabo Bryson and Roberta Flack - You're Looking Like love To me (i dunno if there ever was a video for that).

Nielsen/Parson - If you should sail (don't think there ever was a video for this one either).

Robbie Dupree - Steal Away

there's a lot more, i just can't think of the now.

So far, I've taped 10 hours' worth of videos from VH-1 Classic. They show about 13-14 videos per hour, so I figure I have at least 130 music videos on all of those tapes combined, and almost all are indeed from the '80s. However, I don't think I managed to get any of the ones from the list I gave above... :(

Hmmm, mine doesn't say "Soul City usa" anywhere on it - and again, it's titled "Kool Street Videos", not "Kool Skool". Came packaged in an oversize clamshell case that then slides into a cardboard slipcover. So perhaps the video you have is different? ???

Have seen a couple of different DeBarge videos on VH-1 Classic as well. I know one was indeed "Who's Holding Donna Now" - I think the other was "All This Love", but I won't swear to it. Have also seen El DeBarge's "Who's Johnny" on there several times lately...

VH-1 Classic shows a live version of that video all the time; it's definitely not the one you describe above. In fact, I've never seen a video for the studio version of the song, and didn't even know one existed...

Great AC songs - never seen videos for either, though. :( Reminded me that I have seen the videos for both Rocky Burnette's "Tired of Toein' the Line" and Bertie Higgins' "Key Largo" a few times on VH-1 Classic, two more excellent AC tunes from that era... :-)

BTW, over on the '80s board, you mentioned "State of the Nation" by Industry. I've also seen that one a few times on VH-1 Classic, and I did actually get it on tape a couple of months ago! ;)

Also want to say that after reading your various lists here and on the '80s board that I'm impressed w/ both your knowledge of more obscure artists (Nielsen/Pearson, Keni Burke, Industry, etc.) as well as your wide taste in musical genres (AC, soul/r&b/funk, new wave, etc.)! Sounds like you've got quite a collection... ;)

Seen the "Oh No" video on VH-1 Classic once or twice. They also show "Lady (You Bring Me Up)" and "Nightshift" fairly often...

Yep, VH-1 Classic shows both the "I.G.Y." and "New Frontier" videos quite a bit as well...

well in that case i might as well get either digital cable or satellite (whichever is cheaper), and a tivo/replay tv box. It sounds like VH-1 classics and Vh-1 soul plays a lot of rare music videos.

Well you can try ebay.

do a search for a particular artist your looking for.

also you can do a search for "rockamerica", "etv", "wolfram", or "telegenic". These were promo musicvideo companies that sould music video tapes to business and clubs.

Also search for "friday night videos", "new york hot tracks", "night tracks", and "night flight". Yep those old 80s music video shows. If you're into r&b, try "music video connection" a r&b music video show in washington dc during the 80s.

Plus there was a series of music video tapes in england (in fact quite a few). The most well known one is called "Now That's What I called Music" it has at least 15 volumes from what i remember going from 1983 to 1992.

Another one is "Eighties A decade of music video" which had 10 volumes starting from 0 to 9, each volumen represents a year (0 for 1980, 1 for 1981, etc).

"Don't what that, watch this" is a very good music video compilation based around the mid 80s, i have volume 1 and 4, there probably is more, but i don't know, they are rare even in ebay.

There is also "Video Hits", it too has rare stuff and is based around the mid-80s. I have volume 1 & 2.

There are a lot of various music video compilations that came out in Europe, you just have to look for them. Limit your browse to DVD and Movies in the Entertainment section of ebay, and make sure that you click on "in Titles and Descriptions" so that ebay will search not just the subject headers.

I should STRONGLY warn you though, these tapes are in PAL format, it won't be compatible with American VCRs. So you might need to find a technicans who can convert it to NTSC for you.

well i got "The one you love" by glenn frey
"black cars" and "living inside myself" by gino vanelli
"are you the woman" by kashif

the quality isn't great on these videos, and i got them through winmx and irc channels (they are mpeg video files).

I do have vh1-classics now, and it's hooked up to my computer, so whenever i have time (which i have little of) i capture the music videos. One big complaint about VH1 classics is that they play too may heavy metal! I wish they play more r&b and contemporary pop stuff.
