Hi:
My mother was a woman who kept EVERYTHING....except, my collection of Matchbox cars and their accesories. I'm sure some little kid is playing with a fortune he doesn't realize he/she has :D
Nevertheless, does anyone know where I can find the "tracks" for the matchbox cars that were made in the 70s? And yes, I've check Ebay :P
They were these flexible rubber/plastic things which were connected with these hard, plastic, red tongues. Remember they'd always fall apart :D
Also, I had these battery operated thrusters. They resembled a car wash and had these two rubber wheels inside that would grab the car and push it forward. You would connected these to the tracks with the plastic tongues that protruded from either side. I used to line them up for a city block, push them uphill, send the last one through a hard plastic "curve" track, then catch them at the bottom of the block :D
Yes, this took a lot of tracks, but that's what friends were for ;D
Anyway, I've looked and looked and can't find them. Any ideas?
Dave

Too funny - while I'm afraid I can't help you in your search, I know exactly what you're talking about! That's because back in the mid '70s, I, too, had a set of those Matchbox flexible orange racing tracks that were connected w/ the reddish/purple hard plastic tongues! :) (Only had enough to circle my room, though, not run the length of a city block, lol.) Yep, had a pair of the hard plastic "curve" tracks as well - didn't they each have two lanes? :) Alas, I believe my parents sold mine at a garage sale back in the '80s - don't think I've ever seen any anywhere since... :(

Look at what I just found on ebay ;D

It's has a picture of them and everything, but I think they're asking too much money :(

Are you sure you aren't looking for Hot Wheels tracks and not Matchbox? I remember the orange tracks and red tongue inserts, but it seems to me they were Hot Wheels. I may still have a set in my basement. Anyway, good luck in your search.

Hi Gary:
To use a 21st century term, they were "cross-platform" :) Even in the ebay listing I found, it was for both matchbox or hotweels. It just so happens that I was a bigger matchbox fan.
Tell me about your set. Are you willing to part with it?
Dave

Yikes! That eBay seller is out of their mind! :( I will say that that set has at least twice as much stuff as I recall mine came w/, though. Yeah, I had both Matchbox and Hot Wheels cars back then; think I had more Hot Wheels, though. :) Can't remember if the track set in question was by Matchbox or Hot Wheels - didn't it say on those red plastic tongues? ???

Can't say as I remember the "tongues" specifying which genre they were for. But I do recall that it didn't matter.
How much do you think this item should be worth?
If I could find a bunch of people with these orange tracks, and the battery operated propulsion units, I'd put together an "80s Matchbox Reunion, have "Matchbox 20" perform, stage a benefit to fund nano research ;D I'd call it "Matchbox across America"

Maybe $100, tops, considering all of the pieces in that particular set. I'd be incredibly shocked if that eBay seller got his current asking price!

LOL... Well, the auction ended with not a single bid. I did try to bid $50, but there was a minimum bid amount. So I emailed the guy and told him I'd give him $50 bucks for it, and to email me if he accepts it, ignore me if he didn't. It's so quiet I can hear the stars move ;D
